I believe there are 2 shows per year that can qualify you for a pro card.
Article with pics explaining the run in for the comp. Mostly just his training log posts but compiled into one article:

Quite suprised how his narrow his waist turned out, considering the years of heavy deads etc. Think Kroc was suprised himself
Ok I did some googling and got some answers about the pro cards. There are 3 National level NPC shows in the USA(Nationals, USAs, North American) that give out a total of 12 cards(nationals is 1 to each weight class winner, the other 2 are winner+runner up, I couldn’t really get a clear answer on where the 12 card goes).
Outside of the states it gets foggy, but apparently some countries give out 1 pro card to the winner of their Nationals show(England) while some countries(Australia) aren’t “awarded” a pro card for winning but are eligible to apply for one. Apparently many don’t even take up that option because of the reality of weaker competition, or the fact that to compete in pro shows they would have to travel a great amount.
Lastly, the Arnold recently was given the green light to give a pro card to the winner of it’s amateur competition(a few posts said multiple are given out, I didn’t look any further into it).
All in all there’s probably something like 15-20 pro cards given out each year depending on the quality of competition in the foreign countries, but many are declined because winners that are not already heavy/superheavies see no future of competition for themselves on an IFBB stage.
If any of this is incorrect or incomplete and someone that really knows the competition details can fix it, please correct me because I do want to know more about the sport.

Awesome, thanks for checking that out, gives me a much better overall perspective.

Well I am taking full advantage of the post dieting rebound and loving every minute of it. On the day of the show I weighed in at 214lbs and by the time I finished drying out for the evening show I was around 210lbs on Saturday night. Well I have been eating everything in sight and training hard and by mid day Sunday I was in the mid 220s, I hit 230lbs before going to bed on Monday and last night I weighed in at 240lbs making that an approximately 30lb gain in three days. The pic was taken last night at the gym after stepping off the scale at 239lbs.
^^ taken from his log, 30lbs in 3 days?. Thats mighty stuff, I cant get over it.
it’s almost all from water and glycogen supercompensation
which creates a very anabolic and anticatabolic environment

To the point that the super compensation is worth the dieting?

Only if the muscle is there to begin with. I have seen up to 40lbs of body weight gain from NPC competitors less than two weeks after the show. In my opinion, those who take time off from the gym during this time are greatly missing out on progress that could be made.
I would also NOT expect anywhere near the same for someone who is still relatively small.
Kroc’s also known for his ability to drop water weight and regain it well for PL competition, so maybe there’s just something in him that makes him fluctuate so much.
The middle guy won the overall
The tall one on the far left was another of Shelby’s clients

Man look how fat he got ![]()
According to Shelby he only had a 34in waist or so during the contest, still looked comparatively small though especially from a side chest.
Still calling BULLSHIT on the middle guy winning.
yeah,… I gotta say that I don’t agree with the middle guy taking the overall.

The pro has spoken! Haha, but seriously, even though i don’t know much about bodybuilding judging and such, i don’t understand how the middle guy took it.
To me the middle guy had better hamstring definition and glute and lower back striations, Matt had a deeper chest and more overall back size. They look pretty close though.
Im blown away by how thin his waste got. I expected him to be huge and thick and all, but from the front picture it looks like he has a descent tape as well. Good stuff from Kroc + Shelby
