Have any of you guys tried kneeling snatches or kneeling cleans? For the past two months Louie Simmons has mentioned them in his training articals. That makes me think that these maybe worth a shot.
Thanks in advance

as in dong snatches and cleans while on your knees?
boy, louie took one out of the old school book on that one! lol
snatches and pcleans while on your knees is an old school upper body mass exercise. Reg Park and Steve Reeves etc. did these. the reasoning is it takes all lower body out of the movement. i did these for a while, my upper back and shoulders and forearms love/hated me for it. worked great for a few weeks but i got burnt out on them pretty quickly.
I think Louie was reffering to kneeling snatches and cleans done a la kneeling squats to emphasize hip extension. It may me tough to visualize but the best thing to do is e-mail Matt Wenning at westside-barbell.com. Matt was good enough to take time out and answer several questions I had about louie’s lightened method article. Maybe Matt could do a better job in explaining the kneeling snatches and cleans.

if someone does get/have a clearer explanation please post it ![]()

Louie also mentioned them in his “Things You Should Know” artical. I was espically curiuos, because he was talking about a thrower he trains, who can do Kneeling Snatches with 255.
And how much more athletic this guy had become since starting kneeling snatches. And anything that can make my white ass more powerful is worth a look. I will e-mail Wenning and get back to you guys.

I think they are talking about the movement below with weight. I have heard of it being done anyway, snatch, clean, and squatng weight starting kneeling.
The way Louie Simmons describes them in his “Explosive Power and Strength” article is to actually jump to your feet out of your kneeling position while performing a clean or snatch.
This would make it primarily a lower body excersize with emphasis on hip thrust. It wouldnt be as taxing on your upper body because, in my experience, you cant use as much weight as you can with a standard clean or snatch.
I prefer kneeling snatch licks for reps on my GPP day. I will do 3 sets of 50 with an occasional set to failure.
Then this sounds like the most insane thing I’ve ever heard of. If anyone has further descriptions on this please post.
