What do you guys think of these, gimmick or good investment ??

Possibly good investment during a competition when your are in a hurry and you are by yourself. I saw a few lifters almost miss their time limit to hit the platform b/c they were busy wrapping or getting their knees wrapped.

Personally, I wouldn’t buy them.

this is how they are used

I totally misunderstood what the knee roller is used for. I have revamped my opinion and say what a waste of money. I throw my wraps on the bag after use and let them air dry at the house due to sweat and funk.

I can’t see the benefit unless you have OCD and want to be neat all the time. If you or anyone else sees a benefit please let me know. Otherwise I will continue throwing my knee wraps in my bag as is.

Great investment. You simply cannot maximize the performance of your wraps without one. The one you posted requires a cordless drill, obviously. There are a few hand crank models out there, as well.

Not to mention the confidence of sitting down in the staging area with all three sets of wraps preloaded and ready to go.

To SQ, you wouldn’t want to leave your wraps in the bag preloaded like that for any period of time. It will stretch them out and remove rebound.

I have had a wrap roller for 20 years and wouldn’t be without one. IMO, they are a must have.

I have the TAM and I don’t like it… Just doesn’t wrap tight enough for my liking, but that could be because my portable drill isn’t beefy enough.

But i guess it wraps them much tighter than you do by hand???

I’ve used the crank type models , and I didnt care for it . I prefer my wrap to be rolled a bit looser (stretched by hand on the top of calf). then as I wrap the knee , I pull each revolution tight as it comes around to the side of the knee .

when using a wrap that was rolled on the roller , it seemed more difficult to maintain the tautness within the wrap, eventually leading to the wrap “un-coiling” while still wrapping the knee (thats kinda hard to explain).

maybe I was doing something wrong though . I just couldnt seem to get the hang of wrapping with that tight of a wrap

To me, the ones that attach to a drill sound great but are a pain in the ass.

I have always owned a hand roller and have one right now that is more than 10 years old and as long as the spindle is tapered, they actually work better the longer you own them because the spindle smooths and the wraps pull easier.

If you train/compete primarily by your self and don’t feel like pre-loading your wraps is a priority, I’m probably not going to argue the point but at the end of the day regardless of what fed you are in, you need to learn to optimize gear and just like we cut down our number of steps in the walkout and spend time working on an efficient bench set-up, I think rollers help you conserve energy on meet day.

For us, they are a necessity because we will almost always have 3-4 lifters and without a roller my hands would be annihiliated before I was even half way done and it would double the time it takes me to pull a scorchingly tight wrap.

I think the key to getting the stretch you want is to give it more resistance when youre rolling it. It prestretches it further than you can by hand and then you can just keep it taut as you wrap your knee. some guys like them; i dont use them in training but can see how it would give a far tighter wrap in competition when using thicker knee wraps.

I’m gonna bump this for a little help.

I’m looking for a hand crank roller (not the drill type) and am having no luck finding anything on the web. Am I gonna have to find a local machine shop to do this for me?

Thanks in advance.

check out liftinglarge.com i dont remember if they sell the hand version or the drill version. i know metal makes a hand version but dont know if they sell it.

I’m resurrecting this thread, because I want to know where I can get a hand crank roller, too.

liftinglarge.com doesn’t seem to carry them anymore, and I’ve only found one hand crank roller for over $100. Anybody know a place to get one cheaper, or is that just what it is? Thanks

I’ve never used them but assume you would get it tighter with them. that said, I can crank wraps on a friend pretty tight.

I just take three sets of wraps. Drop one, use another. As for tight, people like their wraps at different levels of tightness for various reason. I use old crappy wraps for warmth at times and don’t want much spring. for competition you need to get used to higher levels of tightness IMO.

We have a hand-crank model, and I wouldn’t want to train without it.

I love stealing Snapper’s coach’s hand crank at meets, I think perhaps I’ll hint for one of these for valentine’s day. My grip just isn’t strong enough to effectively roll and wrap myself, and I like having them rolled really tight.
