Do You Wrap Your Own Knees?

I always have, and I thought I wrapped tight. Guess what? I was WRONG! I had my knees wrapped for the first time and I couldn’t even bend with over 500. I have since gone back to doing my own. I know I’m a wimp. I must admit though it didn’t hurt because the pressure was so even. Tight as hell though. I just started wrapping my GF’s knees and she seems to like it. Just wait until I do it tight.LOL Just curious if you do your own or get someone to do it. If so I have seen some tricks that seem really good, that even have it tied off at the top.

I have to wrap my own since the guy that handles me won’t.

Seriously, I’m looking forward to trying out tighter wraps in the future. I think I could still get quite a few more pounds out of them.

I wrap my own, but I probably suck.

Wrap my own, spiral wrap, pretty loose. Usually get in 5-6 wraps this way, and can get 8-9 if I wrap them nice and tight.

You know I’ve always wrapped my own but we’ve been playing around with him doing them. I was surprised at what I’m getting from it. I barely know I’ve hit the hole. I always thought mine were tight but having a guy with better leverage crank them makes a shit ton of difference; that is once you get past the initial pain.

We’ve changed how I do them though. I normally do an x, spiral and then another x. He does better with a double spiral and the slip tie at the top for fast release.

Too bad your handler sucks so much. You should get my guy. Wait… never mind.

One of these days I’ll get “him” to wrap my knees. I’d like to experience the mysery myself.

You couldn’t bend [your knee] with over 500lbs? What’d you wrap them with, PVC pipe?

I have a handler wrap them. I like them as tight as possible, and to do that, you just can’t do it yourself. Not to mention, each time I wrap a pair of knees, I’m out of breath and sweating by the time I’m done… that shit’s tiring. I’d be fucked to go up for a heavy squat that drained.

I have always wrapped my own.

I wrap myself at training, but at comp and for 1rm’s I get wrapped. You’ll be exhausted if you do them yourself, and with the more extreme knee wraps out there you just don’t have the leverage to make a proper “box” while wrapping if you do it yourself.
Also, a neat trick is to use some extension cord as a lanyard and pull the last wrap through. Saves your fingers and normally makes you need less slack.
Before I did that my fingers would be toast after handling lifters; I couldn’t hold or wrap shit.

I wrap my own for most training. I have my coach or handler wrap me for competitions. Lsupowerlifterdc wrapped me for NAPF’s this week and he bruised the fuck out of me. It was perfect.

Always did my own but I’d get help if I went into a meet mow.

My training partner made a bunch of “jigs” which were simply a handle with a rope tied through some holes to use as a handle. We started pulling through the top wrap and tying off. It comes off really easy when you remove the wraps.

I have to admit while I am no good at squatting with my knees wrapped like this, I found that the pressure was more even than when I wrap myself.

Maybe once I finish wrapping everyone else I might give it a try again, or not. I seem to like feeling my feet right now.

Make sure that when you are either wrapping yourself or getting wrapped it suits your style of squat. I am a great handler and wrapper, in that i can do different types of wraps at different intensities, but your wrap needs to suit your squat.

I often in training and comps wrap myself at about a medium because I like looser equipment that doesnt fuck up my rhythm. I am a big speed and rhythm guy and if I have a suit or a wrap that messes with that aspect of my lifting, its pointless, no matter how tight I can get it.
MAke sure you can handle a tight wrap before you try it with serious weight because a tight wrap can slow you down, mess with your knees, and pull you forward.
Play around with different styles and intensities to see what suits you.

ALso, different types (brands) of wraps act differently. The Titan THPs are more static and can result in a slower squat. The Inzer wraps are what I like more because they are better for my speed.

Hope this helps.

… Pics, just pics…

I have tried pretty well most wraps, but I always go back to the Inzers for my comp wraps.
I do love my max length Metal blacks for wrist wrapping though.
