Knee Aching After Squats Yesterday

Yesterday I had a pretty hard day squatting. Worked up to a 6 rep max with 315. Around the 295 set my knee started feeling a little weird, but nothing to cause me pain or discomfort. But today I wake up and my knee is aching. Its hard to walk, and whenever I bend it something in there cracks. Its gotten better over the day, but im not to sure if this is serious or not, or something that just happens, like a pulled muscle?

It sounds like you were probably drifting forward on your toes and putting too much pressure on the knee. Work on your form and do some really light high rep leg extensions to strengthen the support systems for the knees.

My knees have been popping for years and I had a ACL resconstruction about 5 years ago.

Both of my knees still pop. On my repaired knee I sometimes get pain in the patella tendon area (right below the knee cap).

The pain usually comes after playing a good amount of basketball and/or squatting/powercleans.

I would try to be precise in your from. Make your knees aren’t going forward like the poster ^ said.

What type of squatting do you do? My knees used to be get sore when I first started olympic lifting, likely because they weren’t used to going so deep. After my body became adjusted to it they’ve never felt better.

sounds like meniscus issue, maybe a slight tear

Could be, im gonna wait atleast another 2 weeks to squat, if its not better by then im goin to the doctor.

When you were squatting for this new heavy weight on your back, did you do this in a diff stance or different shoes? different shoes manipulate the gauges of how your body “folds” when you descned. So x2 LSU with the form

Isnt really new weight to me at all. I have a shoulder width stance, and the same shoes I always use.

Explain to me. Is it medial (inside) or lateral (outside)? The pain the next day, under the patella? What does the pain feel like? Does it come ang go or is it constant? The cracking could be several things meniscus ? intracondylar spine friction, one of the cruciates, could also be patellar bursa. I need more detail.

Its coming from my left knee, on the left side. When I put pressure on it, and bend it something in there shifts around. And, whenever I bend it to a certain degree, it feels like its really tight, and causes me pain. Hope that was clear enough.

sounds like the lateral meniscus or something intracapsular. seek an mri now.

My knee has gotten alot better since I posted this question, I should be ready to squat within the next week.

Foam roll your IT band. Or just ignore it. Squatting to hips slightly below your knees is good for your knees.
