Keeping Tight While Benching

After my max effort bench workout I realize that I have a hard time keeping tight on my bench press. Any suggestions on how to do this? For my assistance work I did rack presses and I was able to do 50 lbs more on my rack press for three reps than I was for one rep on the bench press. Any suggestions for exercises or things to keep in mind while I’m benching to help me keep tight? Thanks.

when I can’t keep my butt tight on anything I imagine being in a prison shower, and dropping the soap. All of a sudden my cheeks clench veeeeery tightly.

CT wrote an article about that very topic some time ago, the article is named Bench Press Battlefield.
Read it and learn. Hope that helps!

this is a huge problem for your bench you need to get this number much higher…my raw bench press 1 rep max is a little over 400 but for rack lock outs and high boards i can use near 600…espicially if you plan to bench in a shirt this has to come up by at least 150 pounds…start hammering your lock outs the last 4-6 inch of the lift…about staying tight start working your upper back with tons of reps and voulume force it to grow so you will have a pillow on your upper back…bm
