i figured most nfl athletes would at least try to go near parallel ![]()
nonetheless, is there any advantages to half-squats for them? he just came back from reconstructive knee surgery if that helps. high bar.

I believe James Smith advocates partial squats for football from what I gathered on the elite q and a.

a several million dollar salary, NFL athleticism and Fame.
half squats= Win
Heās also recovering from torn knee ligaments. Perhaps full squats are painful or not an option for him currently.
ā¦maybe heās just doing a bullshit photo shoot āworkoutā for some metrosexual mens magazine. Dude lives in North County San Diegoā¦no way heās driving 2 hours to Venice to train.
So what. He isnāt a powerlifter. Heās a football player.
i hope it was a photo shoot. the only purpose of half squats are for frat-boys to feel strong on leg day.
half squats are worse for jacked knees cause you can use a lot more weight.
Nov 07 I shattered my tibia, broke my fibula, and tore my ACL and MCL. I have had 4 suregeries since then and still dont have an ACL or MCL and I am back to squatting 225x10 at a depth that will pass in most feds (IPF would be a coin toss)ā¦so if you are using ābad kneesā as an excuse to squat high, then they better REALLY be FUBAR!

I remember that too. I think he said he gets his players to squat to 90 degrees which is somewhat above parallel. His logic being that squating to that depth better replicates the range of motion in football, as well as reducing the chance of a player rounding his back on the lift.
Isnāt that counterintuitive since that will lead to more knee problems?
The whole ATG or not argument is both tired and retarded. Mostly on the part of the ATG crowd. First of all, in this case, you donāt know jack about how Shawn Merriman trains. He may also do full squats in his training. You guys are all aware he has a knee injury, so, WTF? Maybe he canāt go full squat right now. Duh. Idiots.
Second, just because you can do full squats with out hurting your knees and it is actually good for them, doesnāt mean half squats are bad for them and are not also good for them. Athletically, in football and most other sports, youāre never working out of a full squat position so itās a reasonable argument (weather right or wrong) that Squatting to a level some where between half and parallel is better.
Bottom line, most you ATG guys donāt know what youāre talking about. Youāre just trying to look tough or cool and, from what Iāve seen on YouTube, a lot of you donāt even know what ATG is.
I dunnoā¦I think he just had a total knee rebuild, it was a photo shoot, I donāt think I would take to much away from it. Iāve seen some vids recently, I think of the FSU football weight program and they were going ATGā¦and the atmosphere was just sickā¦dude was bouncing up and down like a jack in the box with about 6 on the barā¦he looked maybe 220ā¦whole team was just going nuts around him.

You really hold up to your username my man. Tough week?
What is ATG? Also, hes juicing hardcore so maybe he doesnāt even have to do full squatsā¦

This is obviously the most intelligent post of this thread.
BSrunner, go kill yourself.

well considering this site lashes on every gym rat who curls in the cage or squats 1/4th paralell why should he be exempt, because he makes a lot of money? we take it out on actors too and they kill football players salaries.

we were talking about parallel lol.
Who gives a fuck, if thatās all he does and it works for him leave it alone.

Could be his knee injury was indirectly related to half squatting all the time.

Or it could be directly related to the fact that football isnāt always great on the knees.
