Congrats on completing your dissertation.
Over the last 9 months… from a strength standpoint, you hit several PRs. From a physique standpoint, you made some great progress on your arms, and some with your delts.
And ditto on pretty much everything csulli said.
Obviously in the long run, you want to both look strong and be strong, but which is more important to you right now? Whichever it is, maybe you should move your training a bit more in that direction and a take a little less of a hybrid approach. You seem to be judging yourself by two different sets of standards.
On a less general note, you might want to reconsider how you’re training your chest. Your bench press has been going up, but your chest doesn’t seem to have grown much. I’d spend some time just playing with form to see where you “feel” it best in your chest. Play with inclines, flaring the arms, no/minimal arch, wider hand positioning, cutting off the bottom (or top) part of the ROM. Stuff like that.
You also may want to try some snatch-grip work for your upper back, whether snatch grip deadlifts or snatch grip high pulls.
I hope I’m not too far out of line saying any of that. (And my feelings won’t be hurt if you don’t try any of those.)
Plus, seriously, you’ve been pretty busy with school.[/quote]
Thanks for chiming in man, you are right with the hybrid approach. I’m leaving 531 the now focusing solely on hyper trophy work.
Regarding my chest, I actually feel it’s improved fairly well this past wee while. However it’s hard to really judge cause of my blubber and water. In the attached pic you can see I’ve gotten thicker up the top. Hell look up the offseason pic of arnold posing at the beach to see now much water and fat make your pecs look flat.
I also have no problems feeling it work during any chest movements, however I most definitely have not been pushing training as hard as I should have been!
