Just keep at it till you start dropping nice and slow. To be fair 200lbs is still fuckin big. I mean you’re bigger than me right now :_(

I’m also not saying this to be dramatic, but I honestly feel the past 9 months have gotten me no where.
Training always gets you somewhere, even if it’s not really much stronger or bigger. This is ideally a 20+ year game. No one at the top has ever been without bad workouts, bad weeks, bad months, even bad years. Hell I know of legendary powerlifters who had bad decades.

This is all still valuable to your training experience in the big picture.
Cheers for chiming in. You are correct on all points and I just need to look at the big picture!

Congrats on completing your dissertation.

Over the last 9 months… from a strength standpoint, you hit several PRs. From a physique standpoint, you made some great progress on your arms, and some with your delts.

And ditto on pretty much everything csulli said.

Obviously in the long run, you want to both look strong and be strong, but which is more important to you right now? Whichever it is, maybe you should move your training a bit more in that direction and a take a little less of a hybrid approach. You seem to be judging yourself by two different sets of standards.

On a less general note, you might want to reconsider how you’re training your chest. Your bench press has been going up, but your chest doesn’t seem to have grown much. I’d spend some time just playing with form to see where you “feel” it best in your chest. Play with inclines, flaring the arms, no/minimal arch, wider hand positioning, cutting off the bottom (or top) part of the ROM. Stuff like that.

You also may want to try some snatch-grip work for your upper back, whether snatch grip deadlifts or snatch grip high pulls.

I hope I’m not too far out of line saying any of that. (And my feelings won’t be hurt if you don’t try any of those.)

Plus, seriously, you’ve been pretty busy with school.

Thanks for chiming in man, you are right with the hybrid approach. I’m leaving 531 the now focusing solely on hyper trophy work.

Regarding my chest, I actually feel it’s improved fairly well this past wee while. However it’s hard to really judge cause of my blubber and water. In the attached pic you can see I’ve gotten thicker up the top. Hell look up the offseason pic of arnold posing at the beach to see now much water and fat make your pecs look flat.

I also have no problems feeling it work during any chest movements, however I most definitely have not been pushing training as hard as I should have been!

I have been training but just too lazy to log.

Only mentionable thing today was 115k bench with no leg drive for 3.

I kind of sounded like an ass, despite my best attempts at avoiding that. Sorry about that.

That photo definitely shows quite a bit more thickness. Considering your weight has fluctuated, what, 30, 35lbs since I’ve been following your log (and that I’m by no means experienced with judging photos), what I think I’m seeing could be completely off from reality.

I honestly don’t think you sounded like an ass at all so don’t worry!

Ye it went nearly up to 40lbs at the height of this ‘bulk’. For my calories calculation I estimated myself to be 20% body fat which would mean 160lbs of LBM which is awesome considering I was lighter than that at the end of my diet. But all of that is guess work really.
