Bikes are a great and a fun tool. When you becomes familiar with it, it’s a great way to get around.
Much faster than walking, and in a crowded city it’s even faster than a car.
Sounds like the right thing to do, losing a few lbs, I know where you are, we are much the same.
It’s one thing to ride them; it’s another thing to try to balance in one spot or ride in the smallest circle possible. It seems there is very little distance riding involved.
@mortdk is a Dane, living in or around the bicycle capital of the world. His opinion can’t be trusted regarding bikes, he was basically born with one glued to his butt.
Day two of swing set building. My dad and I (mostly him) pre-fabricated everything yesterday. I dug some big ass holes today and we successfully got it upright and set in concrete. I’ll post the before and afters once it’s all done, but here’s a glimpse into my morning.
I dug two of those. They’re 36" deep, 14-15" square and feathered out at the bottom (wider). I also got to dig five smaller holes for the monkey bars. I stopped at about 18" on those and they’re about 7" round. Much easier.
For true reference on the big ass holes, I can lay on my stomach and barely reach the bottom.
My watch also thinks I burned 6600 calories today.
There’s a space between ass and hole for a reason. Totally different meaning!
I helped my brother was something similar when he bought one of those huge playsets for his daughter’s birthday. It took us wait longer than we thought it would to assemble the thing. I’m pretty sure she barely used it.
There’s only 19" of width on them. It’ll be a tight squeeze for me. They’re also only 6’ off the ground but I’ll be able to raise them as the kids grow.
I will be able to use them. If my cordless drill wasn’t so weak then I’d be done right now. I’m waiting for it to charge charge so I can finish the monkey bars.
I don’t know that I’d ever get anything done without my second battery - if I had to wait on a charge after a day of building I’d just start drinking beer and losing motivation.
On a training related note, I haven’t missed the gym one bit this week. It’s been one hell of a week for a “week off”. Bike training and this swing set adventure have given me plenty of exercise.
Weeks like this have me thinking about doing more outside of the gym and adopting a more minimalist approach in the gym. But, on the other hand, these weeks are rare for me. I’ve enjoyed it but I can’t afford to drop $$$ on massive home projects every week.
Also, my lumbar spine and SI joint feel fractured at times. It’s strange because it doesn’t bother me to do physical work, but rolling over in bed is a task. Perhaps a bigger deadlift is an unwise goal…
