Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

I don’t follow boxing. I know both their names but that’s it. For some reason, it bugs me when a boxer is chubby. It seems like they’re lazy with their nutrition. I know the body mass and applicable force equation isn’t simple, but I feel like fighters should be lean.

Does that include the 15 minutes of elliptical? That is lightning fast.

No, just the lifting portion. Cardio is always a bonus part of my day.

Haha fair enough, Fury is significantly less chubby than a while back…

I think you look big, dude. And your legs look muscular and lean. Definitely would be impressed if I saw you at my gym.

Thanks, J - I’m working on it. I don’t think I’ll ever have a finished product. I’ll just keep working.

I can see why you were annoyed. By my watching it, 515 is clearly in you. Just a matter of time. Great work!

How’d you enjoy the chubby foreigner? Was Fury at his very best.

He owned that fight. He’s a goofy looking dude. The way he throws his jab helped me understand his fatness. Even without “throwing” a big punch, it has a lot of weighty/force behind it.

By the way, that fight ended when Wilder got hit in the ear. That’s a bad spot to get hit. You can knock someone out by slapping them there. It can also throw off your equilibrium (like having vertigo). I’m surprised he got to keep fighting with blood coming out of his ear.

Yea he’s always been underestimated because the way he looks, but he’s fast, skilled and very awkward to fight. Was a really good fight. Saw the bleeding, direct from the ear canal not a cut, bad sign, good call by his corner, if not slightly too late on the call - give Wilder his due he’s got heart to keep getting up and going on that relentless beating!

I was surprised he survived the 5th round. I figured it’d be a TKO at some point because he’s too stubborn to stay down. That ear injury might take longer than he expects to heal. I can’t imagine trying to dodge punches with a messed up equilibrium.

It’s a good thing he has that rematch clause. I’m not sure if we’d see a rematch if he had to fight his way back to the top.

One thing that stands out to me is that Wilder has over 10 more fights in his career. Win or lose, those fights all take a toll and eventually you meet someone who’s in their prime.

I’m not entirely sure he’ll take the rematch clause, despite it being a draw on their first fight, Fury had the better of him, even with Fury not being in a good place (coming back from that photo after mental breakdown), this time he dominated and wilder had no answers, yes the ear played a big part but he was being dominated in every round, even prior to the ear injury. He doesn’t have the ability to beat Fury imo.

Also I understand your point re the 10 extra fights but wilder 10 fights ago Vs Fury earlier, still would have lost.

That being said I really hope they do the rematch, trilogies are always good and they are both entertaining spirited fighters!

2.23.20 SGSS Trial Day - Push

(Home Gym Workout)

ELLIPTICAL
10 minutes

RFESS
BW x 15 ea x 3

INCLINE
45 x 10
95 x 10
135 x 10 x 3

DB BENCH
50 x 10 x 3 sets

PUSH UPS
20, 12
Max reps with good form and tempo. I suck.

Experimental Superset
REAR DELT FLY
25 x 20, 15, 10
Did a third set of these but not on lat raises.

DB LAT RAISE + BAND
15 + green x 10 x 2
15 x 10 x 2
Green x 10 x 2
It’s impossible to keep my traps from getting involved but I had a delt pump afterwards so I guess I’ll keep doing this.

Time for lifting: 30 minutes. That puts me at about 40-45 with squats. It’ll probably be 60-75 minutes on my higher volume day.

My triceps suck. They fail first on everything and that’s new. I’ve never really experienced that until now. I wonder if it’s a result of mostly doing pump work instead of heavier sets on triceps. Well, there’s one way to find out.

Alright, I saw Fury praying before his fight. That gets a point. And then I see this:

He might be from our mean big brother, but it’s hard not to like this stuff.

Granted, I saw an article that said they were both getting $25 million and a boxer friend of mine told me they’d probably get close to $40 mil each.

Yea he seems a fairly devoted Catholic: Fury gives homeless man with bleeding foot his shoes before going barefoot in LA - he has his problems (but who doesn’t!).

I heard him praying pre fighting Tom Schwarz and he was praying that both of them would fight to the best of their abilities and both men would leave healthy, like you say hard not to like him, plus he’s a great boxer!

Anyway I’ll stop filling up your journal with Fury fanboy posts!

2.24.20

No training today. Figured I needed a log name change since I’m not deadlifting every day anymore. Read my new log title in the voice of Kramer from Seinfeld. If you’re not familiar, then here ya go:

SGSS will start tomorrow. I’m excited. It’s going to hurt a little. I’ll be doing 3x8 with 335 on deadlifts. I fear that I got a little too used to doing sets of one with that weight so it’s going to shock my system for sure. I have PT in a bit and that will be all my exercise for the day. I’m really ready to be done with that…

:joy: Giddy up!

I was wondering about the log title too…

If you’re like me, it’s from not focusing on them every rep when you’re doing them. It’s really easy to stop locking them out or to drop tension in the stretch. You can still get a bunch of blood in there and feel pumped because it’s a meaty muscle, but that end-range strength starts to drop off. I was able to get them to stop being my problem (now it’s my weak shoulders!) keeping the same exercises/ rep ranges, but just making sure I executed every rep.
