You did fine. It’s tough to hit a max or close to if you’re not peaked.
Don’t be too down mate. You did great, you finished the program and still hit 475. I’m guessing it has been a lo g time since you pulled something that heavy. You have 500 and more still in you. Just keep on grinding mate.
The moral of this story is Big Dude Lifts Very Heavy Weights. The numbers are pretty arbitrary.
And your post was not made from the hospital bed.
Goddammit J I’m disappointed with you, you should have done better.
Nah, kidding. You tried and as said, the day started out bad, so that was kind off expected. But I’m sorry you didn’t hit your goal.
I finished the Maxer PL program and didn’t see anything on that, so I know your feeling. Expecting gold and receive Coal.
You like SGSS so run the last 3 weeks of that for DL.
hitting 450 first week 475 second 500 third and go for 550 on week 4. Or some other numbers would fit for lbs.
That is if you really want to show the bar who’s the Boss.
Gutted for you, but it’s still progress nonetheless and you’ll hit 550 and be on to 600 before you know it!
I think that’s your best advice to yourself. You’re young and tall enough to carry more weight without looking fat.
It’s frustrating that my post hip surgery performance was better than my post shoulder surgery performance.
I set my expectations based on my prior experience and straight up flopped. But, I have a solution - do the exact same thing I did last time I achieved success.
I can’t say that The Daily Dose didn’t work, though. I couldn’t budge 485 off the floor before I ran it and I just got 515 off the floor.
One of two things happened:
- SGSS worked better.
- I was weaker at the start of this journey than I was at the start of SGSS (I thought 450 was my max at the start of both).
I’m running the whole program, Mort. I’ll run the standard reps for deads, RDLs, and squats. I might even do RFESS after squats. If I do that then I’ll slack off on the weights. I’m leaning towards 3x15 with bodyweight each day right now.
For upper body I’ll be doing 3x10 and 4x10 in phase one. 3x8 and 5x8 in phase two. And 3x6 and 5x6 in phase three.
Thanks for the support, everyone! I’ll get a good start to fueling my journey tonight. I’m going to a gathering to watch Fury v Wilder II and will definitely eat bad foods.
Sorry for this miss man, but it happens and you already have a positive attitude about it.
“Do nothing” deloads never help me either. Maybe next time just work up to what you can hit on the last day of your program? My “good” lifts (which isn’t saying much) seem to just come when they come.
Either way, congrats on making it through and kicking into your next stretch!
I think my first five plate pull came after running 5-3-1 training maximally. I worked up to my TM and then I would push it with a joker set or two if I felt good.
545 came in week 12 of SGSS. That was my third week of doing the 5/4/3/2/1 rep scheme. CT calls it the realization phase and it seemed to work. There was no deload or even talk of a deload. Considering I’m just a gym dude, I don’t think I need to do a legit peak like a competitor.
The only reason I’m not starting SGSS today is that the first two days are shorter and less volume. I’m saving those for work days. The long days will be Fridays and Sundays. I can’t start a program with day 3, right?
Well I’m the wrong one to ask. I usually make it to about day 3 before I art doing something else
I have…lol So I could start out on the right day of the week. (OCD at its finest) It ended up being the one I made the most strength gains on.
Well, if I skipped the first two days then I’d be doing 5x8 on squats or deads today… My back hurts.
Probably better off waiting then!
Same.

33 minutes for this workout. That puts it at 45ish if I add deadlifts. I think I can manage that on work days (this will be the Wednesday workout). My deadlift sessions are about to get significantly harder. My starting weight is 335 for 3x8. That’s the same weight with which I’ve been doing 5x1.
I decided to go ahead and post my failure. It doesn’t look like I should’ve missed it, but my back lost it’s integrity and I bailed.
You rooting for Fury I hope!
You ever tried pulling sumo?
Why would I root for the chubby foreigner?
Not with my hips…or leverages.
My tibias look really long from that angle.
Because Wilder is a massive tool!
And Fury is a legend.
