Stabbing pain as I lower my arm. It’s right in the 80-120 degree range of motion.
I did. They’re already slammed because people put off their issues until now and then expect the Doc to squeeze them in before the end of the year. My surgeon even added a day of office visits so he can see 120 people per week instead of the usual 90.
I’m on the cancellation list so there’s a chance I’ll sneak in. I don’t care about the office visit. I want the imaging done this year if I’m going to need it.
I’m pleased with my PT. She’s got my hip back to normal after my original PT had me going backwards. We sat there and tried to break this down. “What muscles are the prime movers for this?” She’d tell me and then get frustrated because we’ve been working that in my therapy.
One thing I learned - when the humerus is externally rotated, it normally clears space for the rotator cuff to do its job (flexion) without any impingement. A thumbs up (neutral) or palm up (supinated) hand position usually puts a person in the right position.
Determining that I felt better when she pressed down on my humerus while I performed the painful movement kind of indicated that the head of my humerus is elevating and causing impingement. The big question is why and she doesn’t know. Neither do I.
I’ve experienced some big pops in the past few weeks. I assume it’s scar tissue breaking up. A couple of them even felt like the pop I felt before surgery but that’s impossible because the tendon is anchored in the groove. My bicep hasn’t rolled up so I’m pretty confident that everything is still intact.
It’s a mystery that I’ll get to think about for the next 6 weeks.
Sounds to me like you have some laxity in the rotator cuff. I have this same issue with my shoulder. There are times when it is fine and not pain but other times there is pain (pre and post surgery).
I’ve learned to live with mine because the ‘fix’ (for me anyway) is to do the superior capsular reconstruction to provide stability to the humeral head.
I’m not suggesting yours is the same level of degeneration as my confirmed full thickness tears in 2 of the 4 tendons but possibly some laxity that’s causing the humeral instability.
OR, it could be something totally different.
Either way, we’re all riding with you and wish you the best.
Depressing your scap, or pulling it Down as you raise your arm may be what’s causing the joint to be constrained, restricted or Impinged.
Awhile back a therapist dude called BReddy talked on here about how we spend tons of time depressing the scap and pulling it down that we forget how to let it rotate upward. He said that your shoulder blade is supposed to rotate “up” and “out,” this allows your clavicle to move upward and out of the way, to make space in the joint for the arm bone.
Found a little time in a busy schedule, lots of posts to read up on, so browsed rather quick.
Found great joy to read about you deadlift getting back to former strength quickly.
Then your shoulder, bummer.
Damn J, sorry to read this.
Really hope you’ll get to see the doc soon.
We’re doing a special assignment at work and I’ve spent the past two days in plain clothes in an unmarked car. It’s boring work. I also have my first sinus infection or virus of the season and feel terrible. Normally I’d go to the doctor for meds but that didn’t work last year. They kept saying it was viral and wouldn’t give me anything.
I didn’t train yesterday but I did a bit of rehab in the evening. I did front raises and lateral raises with a band. I went to failure on two sets and my shoulder has ached ever since.
Green mucus? Bacterial. Lots of yellow/clear snot? Likely viral. It actually makes me very happy to hear about a doctor who won’t automatically prescribe antibiotics, considering overprescription of antibiotics (which is a literal epidemic) will probably lead to our extinction.
Rough though, to work and sit in an unmarked car and be made to stay alert when your head feels like a bowling ball. Good on you for toughing it out, dude.
The mucous has been a little yellow. It feels like the junk I had last year (repeatedly) which was all viral. Using over the counter stuff to battle the symptoms. It’s strange that I used to get infections all the time and now it’s switched to viral.
I got prednisone once last year. I felt better in about 36 hours. It’s tempting to go beg for that.
I seem to handle stimulants pretty well so I’ve never had the jitters or sleepless nights.
I’m taking a different approach - wine. I sleep great for about 2-3 hours and then roll around the rest of the night. It’s great. I do the same thing with Nyquil. It’s the only time I look forward to my alarm going off.
I’m okay with coffee, but, err…stronger…stimulants, I seem to be hypersensitive too. However, prednisone isn’t a stimulant, it’s a steroid, and it has a ton of messed up side effects. It definitely messed with my weight and skin.
I know it’s not a stimulant, but it seems to have that effect on people so I just used it as an example. My body seems to tolerate things better than other people. I’ve taken prednisone several times and never experienced any side effects.
My daughter is all plugged up so I’ll be staying home with her. Depending on how things go, we might both visit the doctor. I’ve learned that taking kids to the doctor the first day they’re sick is a waste of time. They won’t act unless you’ve been symptomatic for a couple days. It’s a frustrating use of time and money when they basically tell you that the kiddo hasn’t been sick long enough for any pharmaceutical help.
Well, I’m not sure if I’ll train today. I’m at the doctor’s office now. My sinus junk seems to be getting worse. The drainage started Monday night. Five nights and four days of progressively worse symptoms is enough.
I’m weak and have no desire to move. Wednesday evening my wife told me to follow her up to the third floor because she wanted to show me something. It was the area rug from the living room. We bought a new one and she moved the old one. Once I got up there and saw it I said “You could’ve just told me you put it here.” My legs were burning and I was fatigued from the trip.
I can’t imagine exerting myself right now. I know most of you guys train through your illnesses but I’ve had enough experience to get a feel for when to do that. This isn’t one of those times.
