Junior Mint's Log

what an awesome pic! congrats on how the season is going thus far.

great pictures and great wins!

a great work ethic will give you success on every front.

2–LOL. That answer sums up how people learned we had a hockey team when I was going to school in Pittsburgh. Here, at least people know we have a team, and that we’re not that bad either.

Mainy and Alexus–Thanks guys!!

Wednesday’s lifting:
4 sets of
6 x 195# back squats
side plank holds
10 x 85# landmine rows

3 sets of
105# close grip bench (10, 10, 12 reps)
20 x 30# one armed overhead situps
30 x single leg stability ball curls

4 sets of
10 x 100 lb one leg RDLs
plate holds for time (two 35# plates)

We swept our series again this weekend, 6-2 and 7-2. I played the second game, and played as well as I needed for us to get the win. Dealing with some “concussion-like symptoms” (headache and slight light/noise sensitivity) after being freight-trained in second period. Hopefully these go away soon–we play again Tuesday and my mom will be in town.

Ouch on the freight train…

Hope you feel better quickly!

2–Thanks! Just gotta say, them legs in your pic are looking mighty fine.

To all you celebrating turkey day today–Happy Thanksgiving!

My team skated to a 3-2 overtime win on Tuesday, moving us to 7-0-0 on the year. It was quite an intense game; we outworked and outshot the other team badly, but just couldn’t get the puck to go in.

Due to the fact that my head is still somewhere up in the clouds, the trainer made me sit out the game. Still dealing with some concussion symptoms–headaches, fogginess, light and sound issues, sleep problems, and tweety birds circling my head (well, all except that last one). Headache is much better today so far though, so hopefully I’m getting closer to having a somewhat functional brain again.

I’m hoping that I’ll be symptom-free by Monday so that I have a chance of playing in next weekend’s series; there are 3-4 stages I have to pass before being fully cleared for game action.

Hoping for you to get cleared quickly, I know how much it sucks to not play.

Concussions are no joke. In my best mom voice, I’m telling you to take no risks!

OMG! Concussions are so no joke!!! Take care of yourself, mama!

Btw, you are amazingly strong. Nice work in here.

Maschy, patch, and 2–thanks for the well wishes, I’m feeling better now and…

GOOD NEWS!!

I was CLEARED on Monday! I had been symptom-free since Saturday, so the trainers felt I’d be fine to take to the ice again.

Bad news: Monday and Tuesday practices blew majorly.

Better news: Wednesday’s practice was pretty badass.

Monday and Tuesday were frustrating because it felt like I was a step behind in every play, but just like that, everything clicked into place and yesterday’s practice was peachy as all hell. Funny how my head can be totally out of it one day, and then totally dialed in the next–definitely something I’m working on.

Was super totally excited to lift this week and get back at it after spending last week trying not to make my head hurt. Had to lift in two consecutive days (Tuesday-Wednesday) instead of having a rest day between days (Monday-Wednesday lift) because I wasn’t cleared until after our lifting sesh on Monday. My glutes and hammies are revolting against me today, but that’s nothing a sesh with a PVC pipe and a lacrosse ball won’t quell.

Tuesday’s lift:

12 minute warmup

Vertical jump for max–24.2", 23.6"

4 sets of:
1 + 1 + 1 + 1 X power clean (88 lb, 110 lb, 132 lb, 132 lb)
squat position holds
plank holds

4 sets of:
2 X 130# split jerks
lateral plate pinches
banded back bridge holds

4 sets of:
4 X 105# incline bench
dynamic/kroc 50# DB rows
40 X single leg stability ball curls

Wednesday’s lift:

warmup

4 sets of:
10 X 40# DBs bulgarian split squat
side plank holds
78# landmine rows

3 sets of:
8 X 115# close grip bench
20 X one-armed 25# DB overhead situp
40 X single leg stability ball curl

3 sets of:
12 X 100# one leg RDLs
12 X 3 way partner neck movement
plate holds (two 35# plates)

5 X 5 chinups for shits and giggles

Anyways, gearing up for this weekend’s tilt against a conference rival. We hate these bitches and these bitches hate us, so it should be a chippy series.

love that pic!!! gawd i can’t believe you can train that hard in season. love it!

Thanks guys for all the kind words!!

This week is all about rivalry games. We’re currently halfway playing 5 games in 8 games in what is probably the toughest part of our schedule. This weekend we battled a bitter conference rival, yesterday we played the strongest team in the other western conference, and Friday/Saturday we play an up-and-coming team that we just don’t like playing.

We were tagged with our first loss against our conference rival, 2-1 in overtime, but stormed back with a 2-1 victory the following day. I played the second game in the set, and was given the nod to start yesterday’s game.

Yesterday’s game against the team from the other conference was perhaps more important to our team. Not only did were they undefeated coming into this game, there was pride on the line. We lost 4-1 last year to them in the national championship semifinal game in a game which we were badly outplayed from the get-go, so this game was all about showing that we could play with them. We controlled the pace of the game for the first two periods, before faltering a bit in the third. We ended up coming out with a 1-1 tie, and despite being supposedly outshot 36-23, we were the better team yesterday, but just couldn’t close the deal.

Today’s lifting:
4 sets of:
6 X skater squats (unweighted, 10# plate, 25# plate, 35# sandbag)
repeated 4 jumps on jump pad
10 X band resisted stability ball leg curls (HARD!!)
8 X 110# BB bent over row

4 sets of:
6 X 20" box jump ups with 90 degree turn
single arm landmine press (12 X 25#, 10 X 30#, 10 X 30#, 8 X 35#)
12 X 90# single leg RDLs
chin ups (6, 6, 5, 5)

3 sets of:
16 X 25# DBs RFESS with elevated front leg (on 15 kg plate)
banded reverse clam shell holds
hurdle step overs

That tie will fuel the rematch GRRRR!

The tie is going to be great fuel for going into the showdown, especially since you guys know you were the better team.

Damn girl! You are amazingly strong  Glad to hear that your concussion symptoms faded fast! I’m going to have to follow your log more

JM, I just love hearing about your hockey exploits. Totally awesome pix too!

Keep on being badass, and go get those wins! No more concussions, though. That’s scary as shit.
