Junior Mint's Log

Out come the brooms–another weekend sweep! Close 3-2 win on Friday, then shit-stomped them all game Saturday for a 3-0 win. This is only their second year having a team, and yet the rivalry is already ugly as can be. Lots of words and stick work traded.

Mainy and patch–Just a little more fuel to add to the fire for the next time we play em!!

Pixie–Thanks girl! Feel free to join the ride.

Kimba–Yeah, no more concussions. Had a little scare this weekend though, got the net pushed on top of me in the first period. That didn’t feel good, but the melon was fine

Groin/hip is definitely tight now. Not sure what exactly the issue is, but it’s not the first occurrence. Some reoccurring soreness deep in the hip crease that only present in internal rotation and adduction. Have done tons of mobility and soft-tissue work, only for it to still persist. Sucks, but right now I’m able to just play through it until we figure out what it is.

Today’s workout:

warmups–run/ shuffles/ cariocas/ med ball throws/ hurdle over unders/ jump squats/ skater jumps

Vertical jumps: 24.9", 24.2"

4 sets of:
1+1+1 X 130# power cleans
8 X stability ball reverse roll outs
4 X 12# med ball supine throws

4 sets of:
10 X RFESS jumps
BB military press (6 X 66 lb, 6 X 66 lb, 5 X 77 lb, 3 X 88 lb)
10 X med ball kneeling chops
10 X 80 lb KB swings

Sounds like they were fun games!

Good luck on solving the tightness.

You must be pretty busy…

Hope the season os going well!

We’d would all like an update please

Have a Happy New Year!

Just a quick update:

Happy belated holidays to everyone! Hope a good time was had by all.

Things have indeed been busy–finals, 8 days at home, and then back to WI for hockey. Spring semester doesn’t start until late January as we have a short January term between fall and spring semesters. Just to keep myself busy and keep on track to graduate, I’m taking an online class. It’s not that bad but it feels like a lot of homework.

Had our first game back from break on Saturday–5-0 win. I had door-opening duty, which isn’t that bad.

Lifting has been going well since we’ve gotten back. Hip is still tight, but if I warmup well and stretch it out, it doesn’t bother me. Workouts are pretty short since we’re in the tough stretch of our season

Today’s lifting:
10 min foam rolling and mobility work
10 min warmup

vertical jump attempts: 23.8", 22.8"
4 sets of:
1+1+1+1 X sandbag-weighted jumps
8 X stability ball pike ups
4 X supine med ball throws

4 sets of:
BB military press (4 X 65#, 4 X 65#, 3 X 85#, 2 X 95#)
10 X 8# med ball kneeling chops
10 X 1-leg jump ups
10 X 80# KB swings

And now for the shitty part, I’m back on the injured list :frowning:
Puck snuck underneath my blocker and hit my index finger causing a nice-sized gash and a bone chip from my fingertip. Off to the hand surgeon tomorrow to get it fixed. Not sure what they’re gonna do with it, but depending what they think, it might require surgery, as they’ve given me the typical surgery prep instructions. Oh well, could be way worse I guess.

aw man. fell better soon girl.

Spent 6 hours in the hospital yesterday getting my finger fixed. I don’t really like hospitals, but the doctors performing my surgery were pretty sweet, which made it a little better.

Surgery went quite well–I’ve got a big wad of gauze on my finger, so I haven;t actually seen what it looks like.

And, less than 24 hours later, I was back lifting, with some modifications due to the lack of a fully-functional right hand.

warmup
5 sets of:
10 X single-leg skater squats
repeated vertical jumps
8 X 45# one-armed landmine row

4 sets of:
10 X 20" box jumps with 90 degree twist
8 X 30# landmine single-arm press
8 X 95# BB good mornings
6 X heavy single-armed lat pulldowns

JM, that is a bummer about your finger. I love it, though, that you are already back in the training spirit using all the bits that aren’t injured! Way to go!

Ouch, the hand thing sucks. I second Kimba’s sentiment about the awesomeness of training around it.

Ouch :frowning:

Hope you heal quickly!

At least you can still lift.

Hey Junior, hope all is well.

How’s the season going?

Oh ow! Did they do it under a local? Glad you can still lift, in any case.

Hey, come back and fill us in on how you’re doing!!!

Otherwise, I’ll start posting Beer League Hockey Demotivational Memes here…

With season now over, the pace of my life has slowed enough that I have time to post again…hopefully with some regularity. Realized that I never posted a shot of my frankenfinger before I went off the grid, so here ya go.

Summary of the last 2 months:
-Came back from finger surgery
-Played 3 poor games in a row, got sat
-Got another concussion
-After getting cleared, rode the bench for playoffs
-Team won conference championship, lost in first round of national championship for third straight year
-Am pulling decent grades despite having icky classes

Got into the gym on Tuesday and threw some weight around. Things were kept lighter than usual, as I’m working on getting myself moving properly again. I’m excited for off-season lifting because in-season lifting just basically gets us moving before practices and keeps us (somewhat) mobile. Off-season training takes on a whole new intensity level.

Warmup–jump rope patterns, squat to stands, PVC overhead squats, inchworms, reverse lunges with knee-to-chest, lunges with overhead reach, single-leg RDLs, run/backpedals, shuffles, cariocas, crossover drop lunges, broad jumps

5 sets
3 X Snatch high pulls from hang
Hip flexor stretch wall holds (~20 sec each)

4 sets
5 X front squats (115#, 115#, 115#, 135#)
chin ups (7, 6, 6, 5)

4 sets
15 X pushups
8 X slideboard leg curls (slowed eccentric)

Despite being fairly simple, this kicked my ass. Scratch that, it didn’t kick my ass–it fried my hamstrings, upper back, and triceps. A group of us trekked out to Wisconsin Dells and went watersliding the next day, which was a blast. This workout differently made me feel the repeated stair climbs up to the slides though.

2–Was that a threat? I think those would actually be worth it. How’s everything going with you?

Cal–Little late on the response, but yeah, it was local. I’d never been under before, so it definitely was a new experience. One moment I was in the OR, the next I’m in recovery watching Spongebob Squarepants. I did like the nice painkillers they gave me after, despite not really needing them.

Glad to see you posting again! Damn, that’s a definite battle scar

Ouch on the finger pic.

Sorry to hear you guys got knocked out of the national champ playoffs… :frowning:

I’m doing good, pretty much totally recovered from the hernia repair work.

Yes, it was a threat

And I’ll follow through on it

Please check your pm’s btw.

JM, I’m sorry to hear that your hockey season was marred by injury. I don’t like hearing the concussion word one little bit from someone with their whole life ahead of them. Yikes. Great to see you back working work in the gym and telling us about it!

BTW, my log has moved to Over 35 with the geezers.

I’m one of those “geezers”…

Ouch.

lol

ouch that finger looks pretty darned painful! sorry to hear about your concussion, too. congrats on keeping your grades up despite icky classes… sorry to hear about how the national champs went (yet again). well done to have got so far, though.

Pixie–Hi again! Battle scar for sure; however, besides the fact that my nail has only half-grown back, it looks pretty normal again :frowning:

2b–Haha great meme!! Glad to hear that your surgery recovery has gone along smoothly.

Kimba–HI! Brain is pretty much back to normal. I’m hoping that I’m done with concussions after this. Thanks for the heads up on the whereabouts of your log–I’d wondered where you got off to.

Alexus–Hi again as well! Thanks for the kind words, as usual!!

Kimba and 2b–Geezers?! Is that what you guys refer to yourself as? Gotta find a better term. Big kids?

No lifting today so I went for a hike in the woods along the river that runs through town. Ended up getting a little lost, but found my way back in the end. It’s been crazy warm here, so I’ve tried to get out and enjoy it as much as possible.

Took advantage of the warmth and lack of snow and barefooted the last bit of the hike. I love going barefoot, so to do so in March was awesome. Just adds a whole new experience to walking. And the looks you get from people are pretty priceless.

HEY… She called me it first!!! (Indirectly, lol)

I prefer to refer to myself as 29 with 20 years experience

Continuing on with my threat…
