Yup. I actually find his bench more impressive than his dead. He’s built for deadlifting, but he benches with really long skinny arms.
If you follow oly lifting at all you’ll know Lasha Talakhadze. Maybe the greatest weightlifter of all time. What I find so amazing about him is that he just doesn’t seem built for his sport. He is 6’6" and has long arms and legs. His arms are so damn long he has to seemingly pull the bar higher than anyone in the snatch. Yet, he has snatched more than anyone in the history of the sport.
I know Jack about weightlifting but I’m sure it’s not all bad considering he has all kinds of records in weightlifting. His arms are long. Max snatch grip I’d assume. If they made bars longer he could’ve hit 500 already
Well, yeah, you gotta admit it would be!
Its more impressive when someone else admits it though.
He’s a beast. If he had grown up in America, he could very well have been a superb offensive lineman with that frame and long arms.
I get your point of course, but that’s not really apples to apples. No one expects a guy 4’ tall to be in the NBA at all, but there are some amazing powerlifters with long arms. I’m just wondering which of them have managed to still put up impressive bench numbers despite not really being built for it.
I don’t think you quite get my point.
My point is that the “I would find X more impressive” arms race is silly. It’s usually things that are obvious. Yes, a long armed big bencher would be more impressive than a short armed one, just like a lighter one more impressive than a heavier one, a drug free one more impressive than a drug user, etc.
I just appreciate the show.
Josh Bryant has his bench-only guys just do light squats and deadlifts, like 50-60% for 5x5. If your main goal is an even bigger bench ATWR then trying to push squats is kind of counterproductive.
Elephant bar snatch?
The full power dream lives. Maybe WR log press too if he develops full body strength to clean it

@T3hPwnisher (not quite 4" tall, but…)
Late to the thread, and also non sequitur, but Spud Webb was 5’7", and not only could he dunk, but he won a NBA slam dunk competition. Wouldn’t believe it if it wasn’t on video, like all those casual WR benchers everybody knows.
Fully aware of Spud: it’s why I chose 4 feet vs 5, haha. Definitely an incredible athlete.
Jesus - it was just the most horrible looking thing ever, but it also looked like he was just standing up with no weight. Man, if he can get his form down it’ll be scary.
…thought you were younger…
I am, but he is brought up so frequently by short guys that wanna justify their shot in the league, haha. Exception that proves the rule and all.
Before I tired of the Eddie Hall hijinks, I watched this YT collaboration Hall did with Maddox; Hall looked relatively small, it was crazy.
Also, before actually meeting Maddox, Hall was making noise about taking a run at the WR bench. Then, he met the “competition” LOL.
Lol to be fair he’s so massive just getting up regular be solid work and look like that lel
And…that’s “only” a 37" vertical (that’s what the announcer said at the end).
The box jump has totally warped people’s understanding of how much more/harder a good vertical jump represents, in terms of real hops.
Haha yeah, I heard that. The anticipation of having to put a ball between your legs before dunking would probably detract from your vertical, and much more complicated stuff has been done since, but it’s not very entertaining these days. Dwight Howard was impressive, but they let him come out of a phone booth with a superman cape on, and it was just different from when everyone would take their turn, in their regular uniforms, and show up for their team on an even playing board. Win the crowd, win the trophy, the flash is in the dunk and not in the intro. Anyways, getting dangerously into old man territory combined with a derail, but yeah - Vince was the man, for 22 years.
