Stretching and Bar work - resting up for woking wednesday night.

Are you training Wednesday?

Sn looks good! 80 for doubles! CJ look good.

You need a bit more volume for the FS, aim to hit a heavy 4x4 or 3x3.

I’ll revise what I want you to do after the comp.

Koing

Yeah I’m training tonight, probably a little later - 7-7:30.

Sn have been feeling alright lately. 80 was my 1rm not long ago, so doing doubles on it is good. So close to that 110 C&J.

I’ll go with 4x4, should I swap my BS and FS around? Tonight shall I do Sn, C&J then FS 4x4?

Ok, work on the weaknesses.

24/09/2011 - Woking Comp

Quite a few people spectating which was good. weighed in at 0900 BW 84.8Kg - had eaten 5 eggs and had a few pints of water before I left home. Felt good. Had a second breakfast with Chris and Oxman which also helped. Koing set my openers at 82/102.

Sn warm-ups went really well. Felt very strong, apart from dropping 85 on my head. Sn opener at 87x don’t know what happened weight felt light, didn’t hang on to it. 87x muppet Snatched the weight then before the ref’s call dropped it. Wont be doing that again. Needed the 3rd lift so practically P Sn it.

Cleans felt good, didn’t wear a belt up to 90 which helped a lot. opened at 102. Felt light, jerk was good. 108x don’t know what was going on here, i think half way through the lift I tried to power Clean and missed it. 3rd lift 108. Felt heavy off the floor, after that it was fine. Jerk felt pretty solid.

Sn - 87 - +2kg comp pb
C&J - 108 - +8kg comp pb

Total - 195 - +10kg comp pb

I’ve been resting up after the comp doing various strength exercises. Some prowler work, Rack pulls (up to 340kg from knee height) and obviously squats.

Hi there:
Just joines this forum. I’m a coach with about 30 yeras or so of Weightlifting experience. I own Risto Sports in the USA and we make shoes and provide training services to elite athletes that visit our Performance center. We had hosted a good number of olympians that come to our place for “training camps” before a mjor competition.
As afr as the system we use I can tell you that we are big in the Russian system with adaptation of the Cuban system. How does it work? The Cuban sports system is called Strategic direction and it has 3 fundamentals: assessment, test and foercast of potential of the athlete;
Assessment:
We see where exactly you are mostly technique wise and we do together a SWOT analysys
S Strengths
W Weaknesses
O Opportunities
T Threats
Once we have stablished your weaknesses, we work in turning those in strengths.
Test:
After working on your weaknesses(mostly tecchnique flaws) we test weekely or by-weekly your improvement.
Forecast:
Using your stats and lifts we are able to foercast how much and when you will be lifting the weights you need to lift to: a.- make a team, b.- win a meet, c.- qualify for certain meet with a minimum qualifier, d.- improve your PR.
We use information mostly from your back squat, power snatches for singles and triple.
Working with a plan and periodization:
YOU NEED TO HAVE A PLAN not in terms of KILOS or exotic exercises or copying what Bulgarians or Russians are doing( I’ve been and studied the systems of Bulgaria, Poland, Russia, Cuba, Romania, China, Japan, Taiwan, spain, Germany, Argentina, Venezuela, France, etc, etc ,etc), your plan need to be in terms of REPETTIONS or volume administration using the proper intensisty zones(i.e.zone 1 is 90% to 100%).
Periodization:You need to work with training blocks;
12 week program
weeks 1 to 7 80% strength and 20 technique. Average reps per week 500. intensisty zone 3 and 4
weeks 7 to 10 70& strength and 30% technique. Average reps per week 400 -450. intesity zone 2 and 3.
weeks 10 to 12 Competition modelling. High intensity. Reps 250 to 300. intensity zones 2 and 1.
The German system works 20 week programs and every system works differently.
Remember training shoild always be in waves and ondulations.

When are you coming down again? We have to schedule it in so you see me at least once a week.

Koing

Alright Koing, How are you getting on mate? Holiday go well? Thanks pal, squatting a fair bit recently so legs are a bit beat up! Weights still creeping up though! It will be every wednesday apart from this week, as i’m flying in the evening.

I’m good mate, still getting over jet lag, slept very badly last night. Training holiday was beasty. Ridiculously tough, felt like I was there for a month and not 11 days!

Cool mate, good to hear. Every Wednesday. Make the commitment and you will get your lifts jacked. I think once you get around 100hrs with me you will really get to understand the lifts and what your trying to do.

Keep 26th November free as that is probably the last comp of the year for us at Crystal Palace. There is a comp on the 29th or 30th October in Brighton area. There is a poster about it at the club. I’d go but I’m competiting in Spain.

Koing

Yeah, I can imagine mate…jet lag is a bitch! Saw the video. Must have been good to eat, sleep and breath training. That 52 looked really strong, working on the jerks whilst you were out there?

Will definitely be once a week, Wednesday or Saturday if I have to work. I can do this Saturday if you’re about? Yeah, 7hrs isn’t really enough, will see where we’re at after 25! Adding the BS twice a week has helped.

Will do mate, I’ve got the week off before too so I’ll be able to do a lot more training. Brightons close to me so I’ll have a look. Had a look at the Brighton uni gym. £95 for 4 months, they don’t let you pay for a session. Cheaper if you’re a student.

James

---- sorry mate, it was Sn grip shoulder press not Sn so it was 5x6 at 80kg!! Ignore the previous bit at the top!

Didn’t work on Jerks. Just FS and lifted. The 2 weeks prior to going I did 2 sessions of rack Jerks on the Wednesday. You saw me hit the 146 remember? So I kept some good form when out in the states. Weight on heels and getting good leg drive.

Saturday we are training at brunel. They only have 2 platforms and it’s suppose to be for the guys going out to Spain or else I’d invite you.

Book in next Wednesday?

The week before you want to be winding down your training to taper for the comp! Not hammering it! If you want to hammer it, hammer it 3/4 weeks out from the comp like crazy!

That place isn’t bad for 4months and if it has platforms it’ll help your training a lot!

Koing

That’s good. Yeah, Definitely remember the 146 mate…will you continue with the rack jerks on wednesdays?

Ok mate, next wednesday!

Yeah, i’ll drop the volume down the week of the comp!

The place looks awesome, bit of a trek though. The gym I normally train at is looking to get some new equipment so I might wait and see.

Thursday 13th of October - Normal training resumed!

Not sure on the rack Jerks. I’ll still with the full lifts and see how it goes as that is what you do in competitions and not rack Jerk.

Cool mate. Wednesday OxMan is going down as well. I’ll be down 7:45/8:00 due to work…but it’ll be sweet mate!

From next week training will be as follows:

Mon,
Wed,
Fri,
Sat maybe double session
Sun maybe double session

Really going to put the hammer down. I encourage you to squat as often as you can and to get at least 5/6 sessions down at the club in a 4 week period. Ideally 2x a week with me but you come a long way mate.

Sick mate. Whats your FS PB? Sometimes you go in and you feel IMMENSE and everything is light like on Wednesday. FS felt light! 100 felt light, 140 felt light, hit 170 felt good, hit 175 which I’ve only hit twice in a 3month period! Then his 2 2RM!

Koing

So here I am…back again, finally able to train properly. Went a bit AWOL after injuring my shoulder at the end of last year, training went dramatically downhill. Then made a school boy error in trying to come back to early and messing it up again.

Have spent Christmas and NY strengthening my shoulders and putting on a bit of weight. BW 85.7 this morning (thats +4.7kg). Decided to spend the next 2-3 months trying to put more weight on and increasing my shoulder strength before going back full time to THE PROGRAM… FS,Sn, C&J and BS.

Looking to do a few comps to try and qualify for the U23 British this year. Aiming high

Did a little bit of training before NY with my mate Skip (i’m sure he’ll be pleased with a mention). Bit of fun with some proper training in-between. Oh and before i start, i have felt weak as SH1TE in comparison to where i was but hey ‘slowly slowly catchee monkey’. He explained a squat program to gain strength 5x5 - 2 weeks, 4x4 - 2 weeks, 3x3 - 2 weeks, 2x2 - 2 weeks and finally 2x1 - 2 weeks. Obviously increasing the weight each week. If all works out i should be back to where i was if not more. Hoping for at least a 145BS and a 135FS.

I’ll update tomorrow after training. My FS is lacking a lot which is pulling my Cn down. Will be trying the Smolov Squat program after this squat program.

Haven’t been on here for what feels like a long time so let me know where you guys are up to lifting wise? PB’s etc?

Look forward to hearing your progress. It’s good to be back

Saturday down training as per usual.

Mon, Wed down at about 8 till 1030-1040. Pop down at say 7 or so or earlier, as Brian is down at 6 but I can only get down for 8 due to work.

How is the shoulder now? No Jerks because of the shoulder?

There is a comp on the 28th January in Portsmouth that I am reffing at. Seeing if I can get Phil to enter for it. You should enter and get a few lifts in if your shoulder doesn’t hurt you still? Nothing crazy, just be good to get on the platform again for a close comp and get 5/6 or 6/6 lifts in.

PJ 140 on Monday so that was sweet!
Sn DL 170 as well, hit 171, 172 and 173 on the FS for the heaviest 3 FS in about 3 weeks so things are picking up. My strength took a huge nose dive after the comp mid December. Didn’t lift well at the comp, 115/140, nearly bombed the Sn…arm bend on the 135 Jerk, got 140 2nd lift, went for glory on the 3rd at 153, got the Clean but it was tough, dumped the Jerk as I had no chance.

OxMan and myself tonight! Looking forward to it! I last trained with him when I was around his house on the 23rd and 24th. Failed 160 FS :frowning: SHOCKING.

Haven’t done more than 110 120 in training! Failed 130 a bunch of times but I haven’t CJ recently.

FS,
Sn
BS tonight

Good to hear from you!

Thanks for the reply Koing!

Sure thing, will start getting to woking shortly. Has been time haha

Shoulder’s much better than it was thanks. Lots of instability which is a pain, just having to do a lot more pressing. I can do jerks but keeping the weight low (nothing about 75x3) any heavier for reps it feels a pretty dodgy. The more I shoulder press the more solid it gets.

It would be good to compete asap. I will sort out getting some leave.

140, thats strong! I take jerking is coming along well? What did you lift at the Woking comp. haha standard, Team Koing! Leading from the front. I think the last time we were training you cleaned 153 9 times trying to jerk it?

How did training go last night? Whats OxMan lifting these days? Why the big drop in strength? What are you weighing in at?

“Haven’t done more than 110 120 in training! Failed 130 a bunch of times but I haven’t CJ recently” -------- Never thought i’d see the day mate!

12/01/2012
FS - 5x5 - 95kg
Cn - 3x3 - 85kg - feeling really nice
GHR - 4x10
RDL - 4x10 - 90kg, 100kg, 110kg, 115kg

DONE!!!

Yeah get down asap man!

Glad the shoulder is better mate. Just keep rehabing it and slowly working up the weights when you can. Get the volume/ rehab you need on it.

28th January! The comps in Bournemouth.

Yeah 140 is a 10kg PB. I’ll see what I can CJ tonight off the back of a 140 PJ! Yeah but I haven’t CJ more than 120 after the comp. There wasn’t a Woking comp, there was a comp at Crystal Palace but I wasn’t allowed to lift due to putting me down for 2 weight classes, you can only do one, and they are enforcing this rule at non National events now.

Yeah I remember that, solid session, hit 125, missed 128 about 3-4x, went for 153 about 6-7x lol.

Last night was good, FS 171, 173 and 175. Sn 120, missed 122 4x 123x, but I felt strong off the floor, just needed to be sharper on the bar, bar slightly in front or me behind it.

Oxman PS 70, Sn 75, FS 127.5 without a belt, he is going beltless for a bit. PJ 90 :). I think the big drop was due to the 2 comps I had peaked for, so I hadn’t done much squating in a month. I’m going to squat harder longer in to a comp when I taper. Got to get my squats in, it was telling that I couldn’t double 160 on Wed and I didn’t lift well at the comp on Saturday :frowning:

About 95 morning weight is my guess, maybe 95.5?

Numbers on the way up and I have a different training system for OxMan, to trial out from SquatHouse!

Strong FS mate, nice Cleans, push the Cleans up a bit more when you can.
