Journey to 100/120 Training Log!

12/06/2011
Stretching and bar work. Really good session.

13/06/2011 - more and more tired as the days go, will be taking extra rest days and cutting down the exercises from my training as the weights go up.

FS
Warm-up
Bar 3x6
60kg 2x6

70kg 1x4
80kg 1x3
90kg 2x2 - felt really good, don’t know if it’s te bar work or having done heavy FS but the bar felt light.
100kg 1x, 1x, 1x, 1x - wanted to give it a go, caught under the bar twice and had to drop it. Talkedmyself out of lifting the weight so ended up only shrugging the weight…so close.

FS
60kg 2x3
80kg 1x6
100kg 3x2,2,3,3

biggest problem I had with the snatch (70kg old PB) was talking myself out of lifting the damn thing. Same thing happened today with the clean. I’d FS the weight 3x3, I can lift it, just couldn’t get my head round it. Another frustrating day of oly lifting, going to get that 100kg by te end of this month

Hi Koing, thanks for the reply mate. Sorry its taken me a while, will type up the training log tomorrow.

Clinical to say the least pal, just goes to show what 5 years of hard training in the right environment can do. Impressive, we’ll see what he’s lifting in a few years. Starting to get strong? 130kg FS @ 63.5kg is epic. I read a few articles at work earlier, which mentioned how having a big BS & FS doesn’t necessarily constitute a heavy Sn or C&J?

Thanks pal, felt good that day. It was 75kg, i’m going to have to start pushing the weight up more me thinks. Prefer the Sn to C&J, found it a lot harder initially so worked hard to get it right.
[/quote]

Having a big front or back squat doesn’t mean you will put up a big Sn or CJ.

BUT

INCREASING YOUR FRONT SQUAT WHILST SN and CJ WILL BOOST your OLifts up. Lifting alone won’t get you big lifts, squating without lifts won’t get you big lifts. FRONT SQUATING HEAVY and SN and CJ WILL GET YOU BIG LIFTS.

The Front Squat is the best assistance on jacking the lifts upp. It’s only taken me 12yrs to believe this and do it.

The strength exercises, don’t back squat, do DL, pull ups, military press or whatever single exercise you want per session. After a year or so you can ditch that. You’ll feel better. Less is more mate. Don’t train for the sake of training (hard I know) mate. Go to train and smash PB’s mate, this is how to get your lifts jacked. Takes self restraint to do so but when you can max your C&J 5-6x a session you know you got it.

PM you Phil’s number.

It’s as much as a battle of the mind as the body mate. If you don’t have it in your head no amount of physical strength/ skill will help you do it.

Smash it up next time!

Koing

A New TeamKoing lifter has been recruited

Hope you enjoyed your session and you should have introduced yourself earlier!

I see very big lifts for you mate this year. Absolutely no f0cking reason why I can’t see 110/135 this year from what I saw today. Just stick to the schedule and keep coming to train and I’ll you’ll PB every 1-2 weeks and your FS, Sn and CJ will get JACKED.

James looks very impressive so far and the best lifter I’ve seen thats self taught. I only had to adjust a few small things but he is going to SMASH IT UP this year training with me and the rest of the team.

Koing

Sorry about the late replies, work has taken over the last few days so I haven’t had a chance to post.

Hi Koing,

Wednesday night was epic mate, a real eye opener to just how much effort needs to go into my training and how far i’ve got to go to get some respectable numbers up. Seriously strong lifters up there. Sorry for not introducing myself straight away mate, thought i’d leave it until later on in the session. Already feeling battered after wednesday’s training mate.

When the first clean technique i was doing with Brian sat my arse down, i could tell i was in for a beating. Felt like i’d been beaten with sticks thursday morning. the Sn tips helped, feel a lot better getting over the bar more. trying to keep my hips down for as long as possible. singing up to Fortified Iron under the same user name.

Koing: The strength exercises, don’t back squat, do DL, pull ups, military press or whatever single exercise you want per session.

Isn’t Back Squat necessary? I have been doing them (along with SLDL and GM) to strengthen my hamstrings so would probably do good morning back squats.

Koing: It’s as much as a battle of the mind as the body mate. If you don’t have it in your head no amount of physical strength/ skill will help you do it.

definitely found this out the other day but the 100’s right there, only a matter of time.

Thanks for the compliments Koing, was good training with you guys. I look forward to next weeks training. I can’t be dealing with everyone elses FS being so much more than mine so going to be concentrating on that.

Thanks again for the reply and advice Koing

Yeah it was good having you in the gym mate. A solid new recruit to the team

We all have a ways to go mate. When you can Sn 2x bw you are nearly there. Never be satisfied mate.

So funny I had no idea who you were until I spoke to you a bit later on, but it was good to get you to lift and hit some good numbers.

I’m not suprised you felt you were smashed to bits on Thursday, thats standard! How did you feel on Friday? Usually it’s worse on 48hrs!

==============
Isn’t Back Squat necessary? I have been doing them (along with SLDL and GM) to strengthen my hamstrings so would probably do good morning back squats.

Yeah, just ignore back squats. You only need to do FS. Hamstrings I prefer to do GHR instead.

Thats the right attitude with the FS mate. You got to get it JACKED. You will be hitting PB’s often mate! We are going to edge it by 1-2kg each time!

When are you next down mate?

Koing

2x BW is the next number to fall after i hit the 110 Sn

Yeah man, ha starting to feel more of a weightlifter now.A few good points i need to work on during the week too mate.

I felt like sh1te, both days mate. Bed ridden Thursday, took loads of ibuprofen and still felt really rubbish on the Friday.

Ok will start doing some GHR’s and see how i get on.

3x is a about right ATM, gives me enough time to rest.

I’m next down on Saturday I think, have been asked to work again on Wednesday. what time?

Had an epic training session Saturday up at St Mary’s with Koing and the lads. Smashed it, some nice new PB’s. 85kg Sn (basically a power Sn, didn’t drop underneath it but the weight went up) and 100kg C&J (again a power clean but stuck the lift) +10kg to my total in a day :). A bit of competition is always good.

firstly Wednesdays training.

high hang cleans/snatches work wonders IMO in order to learn to get under fast. It doesn’t work for everyone but it did for me and for most people

It was a good session mate

If you can do Wednesday do that mate, if not let me know about Saturday as I may be going out with some mates to the Isle of White.

Also bring your membership form and fee as Brian will be on the case!

We will do more bar work and ingrain a few moer doubles on the Sn and the Cleans. Power is not your issue, your issue is speed under the bar and your FS strength. So we’ll max less, well we will still max but not at the expense of learning good technique. A 85 PS means at least a 100 full Snatch mate. So we will take one step backwards to attack more singles and doubles around 75-80 to get you to FULL SN and FULL CLEAN. Then we can hammer up the lifts when you have the lifts ingrained enough in to you.

Remember OxMan has been coached for about 60 sessions so his technique will be sharper and he’s been hammering on this hybrid bulgarian routine for about 3months now. He is very efficient at his Cleans and his Jerks are coming along. You have sweet power and a very strong Jerk. Once we get your speed and attack under the bar sorted and jack your FS you’ll put up some fat numbers. You can already PS BW+ so thats very good.

Yes hammer the GHR work. This will help you to be stronger off the floor. We will do pulls to mid thigh to help remedy this also.

3reps x 4-5sets pulls to mid thigh. Stay over the bar, raising hips and shoulders about the same pace. For technique and strength. Do these once a week after the 2nd round of squats.

Koing

Lordstorm88 - For the first part of the month i’ve been pausing just above the knee as a high hang. It seems to be working. Although initially I found myself not finishing the second pull but i was still managing to drop under the weight, even when it got heavy. Is it that important? I have stopped doing that now so not a problem only interested.

Koing - Alright mate, how was the Isle of White?

I’ve been doubling up on the Cn & Sn since Twickenham and my speed under the bar is better. Managed another 100kg Cn (no Power Cn) on Wednesday that felt real easy. PB FS on the Saturday previous too :). Thanks mate, 100kg Sn would be good and also boost my Cn. I can train next week Wednesday at Woking.

Ox’s Cn are very good. Just goes to show what a coach early on in training can do.

I’ll add those pulls to mid thigh on Mondays.

Will catch-up on my training log too.

Feeling alright, rested up for the comp!

13/08/2011 - 1st comp - Oxford Powersports! weighed in at 81.8kg

Started of with 80/90, bankers so I could get a total. To then try and hit PB’s. Took the obligatory TeamKoing neurofen before the warm-up. Warming up felt good, missed 75kg for some reason though.

80kg - felt good
85kg - felt really good =PB …Still not getting dropping into a full squat which could add 5-10kg more onto the lift.
90kg - got underneath it but didn’t drop down enough, lost it in front.

C&J

90kg - comfortable
100kg - very comfortable which was nice = PB
110kg - Haven’t attempted this weight before. I got underneath it, started to stand up but lost it in front.

85/100 - 185kg - not too bad for a first comp!

110813 Oxford TeamKoing - Chad - YouTube - a video of the Oxford comp!

So you managed to raise your PBs by 5kg…, congrats!

Right, i’ve been pi55 poor at logging. I’ll catch up to where my lifts are and then try to keep the log going.

My lifts have all increased over the last few months to 90/107.5. I have a video of the 90kg Sn so will be posting shortly. After the comp at Oxford, I was told to BS on mondays and Wednesday at the end of the session. Its now up to 120 7x3. my FS hasn’t increased, in fact i thinks its gone backwards.

I have my second competition on the 24th in Woking so looking to hit 95/110. I need 215 to qualify for the U23’s next year.

— My Goal is to hit the 90kg snatch and 105kg C&J within the year - hopefully not too optimistic. ----
Just realised, i’ve already achieved my goals for this year :). I’m not going anymore goals until after the Woking comp. Thinking 100/115kg by July but we’ll see.
