Yea I realize that with all my others lifts it’s just that I hadn’t deadlifted for max for over 2 months and when I came back I surprised myself and ripped 455 off the ground, 475 felt like 435, and when I tried 505 I came within 2 inches of lock out before my grip failed me. I used to be the kind of guy that if I could get off the floor I could lock it out, now I can rip it off the floor and am unable to lockout the last 1 or 2 inches…very annoying.

Static holds!! If your grip is going, force it to get better. I used to hop in the rack and put about 635 on, then hold it for 20-30 seconds. Or, alternately, do farmer walks with dumbbells. Whatever you need to get those hands up to par.
Although, really, I think it’s better to fail at lockout then off the floor. Nothing is more embarrassing than psyching yourself up for a big deadlift and having a gym of spectators watch you grunt and struggle, but the bar doesn’t budge!!
It is a very embarrassing experience…but you know what they say if you never step up to the plate you never know if you can or not. I didn’t think of static holds, I was doing bent over dumbbell rows 100x30 for for grip strength and directly training them on arm day. I haven’t been training them long as I haven’t needed too and felt I could spend my exercise time on my weak links and deal with forearms later.
And sometimes I wish I would fail right from the get go, its so depressing to be literally what feels like 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% there and you can not for the life of you finish. IIRC I held the weight there a good 15seconds and I just wouldn’t move.

Thanks man, congratulations on the pr!
It was a 15 pound pr over a 2 week period. It was mostly a question of working on my form, which I’m still trying to improve. Moving my feet and hands as close in as possible, dropping hips down, etc.
This article on Elite has some great pointers on setup for the big 3.
No belt, no wraps, buuut I used straps, so it doesn’t count for you guys, but still, I’m proud of meself and it’s applicable to this thread, and this thread was some of the motivation to really go for it. Keep at it, the rest of ya!
wow great pulling guys. this is a pretty good forum here. everybody’s strong as fuck and trying to get stronger. I got 495 as my last single in training. video won’t load but since it was smooth,i got excited and threw the 2.5s on and here it is.
Ritter and equinoxedtmaster: Well done! Now you must enter the next thread! Quest for a 600lbs DL (or something like that). Meanwhile, we earthlings will keep going in this thread!

395 lb sumo style today for a 20 lb PR.
i have 405 lb conventional down, and with the new pr today, i hope to make some progress in the 400+ class…495 lb seems almost inhuman!!
Not at all. If you have the desire you will get there, and one small step at a time. Of course it will take a while, but you will get there provided you really want it. Once you’re there, you don’t find that weight too impressive anymore.
A very explosive 365+2mini bands with my feet on them standing on 25lb plates sumo stance deadlift. I’m thinking I’ll be able to get quite a bit more next week.
I’m in. The Coan/Philipi routine took my deadlift from an incredibly hard 180kg (397lbs) gym lift to an easy 200kg (441kg) in competition. I want to reach 225kg(495lbs) by the middle of January.
