Funny how that works. As soon as you hit a big number, the jubilation fades into a sense of being unsatisfied.
500# won’t be long in coming. Great work.
Yeah I’m still “proud” but now I want the next goal. I’m really going to try and keep my eyes on 450 and not think to hard on 500 just yet but the round numbers are much nicer.

Thanks.
I like to use other plates as markers as well. Sure, the 45s are the nice ones, but being able to add a 25 to each side and pull, or in my case squat, it will feel really good.

Yeah I think it helps me stay focused in teh short term if I try to hit 455 before I hit 500.

Nice work on the pulls. And ‘brotards’? I like that one.
Thanks RL, I am overwhelmed with brotards at my gym.

Cycle 8-Week 1-day 3

Bench

5x175
5x200
5x230 (+1 rep PR)

5x10x170

Underhand BB Rows

5x10x145

V-bar Pulldowns

5x10x155

Nice job on the Bench PR!

Nice benchin’, Joe. You seem to be in a rhythm. Everything keeps moving up.

And yes, I bit my tongue…

Sorry I’m late but 405 is huge. I must say I like the way you’re talking all calmly about how you’ll systematically plan your assault on 500. I vaguely remember the 600# episode a while back. “Let’s just throw the hundreds on”. Your lifting is going great. As for the brotards, “You can use that corner of the gym, if you come out I’ll kill you, or worse, spank you in front of your friends.” Works for me.

Ha! still getting those work sets and they are PRs too!

Keep ridin’ the wave bro!

Visualizing, visualizing…ouch, oh shit, fell off my chair laughing.

Joe understates and over-performs.

A sign of maturity. At least, that’s what we make everyone else believe.

Thanks OG, bench PR’s are hard to come by for me.

You should get the misses to bite it for you, more fun that way.

It looks good on paper but I’m fighting for every single rep. The three rep sets will be tough next week and even if I hit them i’m only prolonging the reset a month or so.

Thanks hel, I’m tryng not to run to far ahead of my self but that said I’m always of the “too much is always better than not enough,” mindset.

Can’t be, I have zero maturity. I am perpetually sseventeen.

Great benching, Joe. Nothing wrong with not growing up. I’m trying not to.

My wife does have a thing for biting. Her teeth are too sharp, though. Bit my arm once and it showed for 4 days.

All that fighting is what is going to drive the gains. You have migrated from less weight with more reps to heavy weight with fewer reps. Jim would be proud.

We are all just prolonging resets. Eventually it has to happen. But I think the intention (just my take) is, like with 5x5, you keep going up until you actually fail to hit prescribed reps. Then you reset.
I think that we get so used to doing lots of reps and exceeding prescribed reps that we forget the benefits of 1-3 ball busting reps. Hell, a lot of programs never go over 3 reps.

Hey Joe,

Congratulations on 405, man. Always a nice milestone. Onwards and upwards now, brother. I’m gonna need to start training earlier in the day so if I can ever get my ass outta bed on time maybe we can throw some iron around sometime.

Keep up the good work.
