Jimmy Pellechia

What’s everybody think of that Ironbull and his training techniques? How much do you folks think he could bench in a meet? Is he on the juice? I can’t find any info on this guy online, which surprises me considering the numbers he claims to have put up. I’m damn impressed that he was even able to support a 1000lb+ bench.

I’ll tell you something: I don’t even pay half an ear to any training advice given out by a guys with an Italian last name. I think that those guys are so unbelievably gifted for strength and physique that they probably don’t know anything about training at all. (Kind of like Mike Matarazzo telling people how to train calves.) They don’t have to!

As stated in his article, Ironbull engages in “powerbuilding”, his hybrid training style, using ANY MF-ING way possible to move the weight (translation: a LOT of Body English!). He probably wouldn’t do poorly at a contest, but again, that’s just not his game. Kinda like asking how Ronnie Coleman would do at a meet or how Poliquin would do in a bodybuilding show.

I wish being Italian or having an Italian last name was all there was to it…

Hey, as a guy who’s last name ends in a, and being full blooded Italian I should take offense to that post…haha…but I think his routine would really be good for cops and firemen…and 1000 lb bench?

If you’re goal was to resemble a turnip on roids, I’d say “go for it”.

There were a series of articles on him in Muscle Development in the early 90’s. Yes, he is very strong. He used to work all day as a stone mason and then lift at night. One body part once per week.
Best of Luck.

What about just looking like a greasy italian in some self-tanner-gone-bad photos? If that works, I can definitely give you plenty of advice:)

Another heavy roid user hawking supplements for Met-Rx. Nothing new. I noticed he was wearing a Twinlab shirt in one picture but now he whores for Met-Rx. I have no respect for him.

Doesn’t Pellichia have the other nickname of the Iron Bullshit?

No respect for this tool. Lump him with Kovacs, Nasser, Valentino, Chimoy and all the other loudmouth fakes.

Nah, Eric, you’re just impersonating…Char can take your advice.

Worksa for me! LOL. Seriously, I think that it was an interesting read. I do like his point that some of the older lifters were strong and well defined and used the example of Grimek (who was supposed to have beaten Reeves’ by only using two oly lifts for training). But I think too much body english in the lifts he does will only cause injury.

I have benefitted many times from Eric’s advice. He’s obviously not really Italian, no matter how bad his tan may be.

I wouldn’t at all call the guy “fake.” It is only a fraction of the stuff that he does that involves spotters handling any of the weight. If there are people that enjoy what he does, and there are, great! As he says not everyone has to be doing the same thing.

However, I do have a poor opinion of his making any sort of deal of any lifts done with spotters handling any of the weight. That’s silly. And for him to say that a spotter “couldn’t pull 225 from that position” is flat wrong. Once when spotting I had to pull something somewhat over 315 (three plates plus some small stuff, don’t remember) and do it all myself because the guy suddenly had some severe shoulder pain right off the bottom, and asked me to take it, not contributing anything to the lift at all. There are benches that are set up where
the spotter has a place to put his foot so he can pull with force and it’s inconceivable Pellachia didn’t use a bench like that. One of these lifts he had three spotters on. I can easily see 400 lb or more total force being supplied by spotters.

He’s also incorrect I believe in implying that his non-bodybuilder appearance is a result of training style. He’d look like he does if he trained like Flex Wheeler, and Flex would still look like Flex if he trained with Pellachia. Sure, the famous bodybuilders have great muscle separation (appearance of muscles being very individual) but that is due to the fact that you only get to be a famous bodybuilder if you meet that criterion! So of course all of them do. It’s not the training, it’s the selection.

If you want to watch some dufus hurling around weight that he can’t actually lift himself, then just go to any gym in the world and watch the obligatory fat guy in a tank top who thinks he is all muscle. Or the obligatory scrawny guy who thinks he has benched 315lbs when it was really his lummox training partner shrugging the weight for reps. OK, maybe this dude is better at it than most. But how can you really be good at shit technique? The reason weight lifting and powerlifting meets have rules and standards is to exclude losers like him.

Assuming his spotters only helped Jimmy push the weight up from the bottom, just lifting a thousand pounds off the bench rack and doing a negative with it is impressive…

dont hate jimmy because you are unable to do what he can. you shame his use of momentum to move his massive weights, yet many of you wouldn’t be able to cheat curl 80lb dumbells, nevermind 150’s. I have actually trained next to and spotter the Bull. He is the man and should be given the respect he deserves, especially by you nobodies.
