Has anyone here tried Jason Ferruggia’s programs (Max Mass)? he receommends upper/lower splits. i’m interested in getting BOTH big and strong, not one or the other.
anyone have success with his programs or tried it without results?
by the way i’m a taller lifter (6’5) with long arms and legs. would this program be beneficial to me?

Ever seen a heavy- or superheavyweight bodybuilder who was/is weak?
Ever seen a PL’er benching 800, squatting and Dl’ing 1000 each, but at the same time being small ?

Yes…as long as you get in the calories to support the growth.

Oh really… Provide some examples of weak big bodybuilders please.
Anything written by Jay Ferruggia will get you results. I use his ideas in most of my programs with great results. The advice above of getting strong will get you big is true, the bbuilders who are big and weak are rarities, they just are able to do so bcaz they arnt interested in upping weights because they can simply up the dose…
Still a Ferrugia program will give u results, I dont know the program you are using but if u do it intensively u’ll be fine. By da way, long legged individuals should be careful with squats, I’d ask CT what he thinks about that

just guys i’ve seen in real life at my gym. my buddy and i have out deadlifted and out squatted them plenty of times. you would think these guys could easily squat 1000lbs based on their size. i know plenty of smaller looking guys who are way stronger than they look.

it’s a upper/lower split, 3 days a week. 4 workouts per rotation (upper body1, lower body1, upper body 2, lower body 2)
basically on upper body day it’s a vertical push, vertical pull and horizontal push horizontal pull and then one direct bicep and one direct tricep exercise. almost all exercises get 2 sets of 5-8reps.
lower body day is either a squat variation or a deadlift variation, plus a calf exercise, posterior chain, traps and forearms.

Let me guess, you were doing triples, doubles and singles and they were doing 10’2 and 12’s or 15’s and you’re still making a direct comparison?
There are NO huge yet weak bodybuilders, trust that to be a fact.

Yup. Ferruggia works like that. I think 4 days a week works better unless u r involved in some other very strenuous physical activity. 2 really intense sets, is one of my staples and works great

Even in the same rep range its possible… a few bodybuilders dont squat(rely on leg presses for quads) and many dont deadlift, but it doesnt mean they are weak, these guys are probably strong in whatever leg and back exercises they use consistently in their training.
I’m sure there are powerlifters who would be outlifted by lighter guys in the snatch and clean, but no one would call powerlifters weak.

You’re so full of shit it’s ridiculous. Who in the world looks like they could easily squat 1000 pounds?

guys from westside can squat 1000. (ex: jim wendler did in contest, im’ sure this was with gear, but i also know that wendler also used minimal gear when he lifted.)
and don’t tell me that ronnie coleman doesn’t look like he should be able to squat 1000.

You said guys you see at your gym look like they can EASILY squat 1000 pounds. I’d like to see pictures.
Until then, leave me (along with this whole forum) alone.

I see this now and then, people who can’t estimate well. 1000lb’s is a huge weight for a human! The idea that anyone at all could easily squat it is ridiculous.
A good test is to just look at a loaded bar, even a big 585lbs, look at it, try rolling it. Heavy! Even guys who can squat in the region of 585 can’t just toss around a 315 for fun.
It’s the same line of thinking that imagines a person can go from looking average to looking like a ‘name’ BBer after a couple of years and/or a few cycles of aas. Unrealistic expectations, naive estimations.
Happens the other way too, where a low ceiling is placed on the achievable and anyone else who exceeds it is ‘lucky’ or using aas.

Well, Ronnie squatted 795 (or so, with a suit, wraps and belt) for 2 in his redemption vid, if I remember correctly.
So back then, he could very likely have nailed an 800+ max effort squat… with a not too wide stance to boot.
What’s bad about that, considering that he spent most of his time getting stronger in the 10-15 rep zone?
Ok, dunno if Ronnie would manage such weight at a legit competition, but he knows PL form, having been a powerlifter early on in his lifting career.
Fact is, none of you are likely to get anywhere near a 700+ squat unless you dedicate yourselves to powerlifting…
And even then, with the kind of mentality displayed by most ppl here…
