Honestly i dont get the obsession about losing weight(other topic similar to this) or eating whatever and not getting fat.
I mean, cant people just…save some money, skip a few meals, and just do sports?
I know i am on the extreme end of this, but still its not like i am above the laws of thermodynamics.
If id eat only what i want and when i want, id lose weight rapidly.
Is everyone really so inactive? No one goes anywhere? Its hard to imagine people here not getting like 20k steps in a day and not doing anything active on the weekend.
Cant people just skip lunch and play some ball with friends 2-3 hours in the evening?
If i was living in USA, id just play basketball on those free special places where gang stuff happens in movies, lol. I have seen people throw football in parks in movies also. Do that with friends.
You also have such awesome nature… jesus, HIKE… If i could be in USA, id never sit down until i have walked in all the national parks, canyons and everywhere.
I live in a place where we dont even have decent hills.
IDK how much time you have on your hands, but this is quite difficult when balancing work, school and family obligations. It was much easier to do stuff like this when single, much harder to do with a toddler in tow =)
I think being in the US makes this specifically easy to do.
We have this weird relationship with food where everything we eat is supposed to be beautiful and fun.
Burnt food? Throw it away.
Not pretty enough plating? Go to a different restaurant.
Need something quick? Here’s 1700 calories, enjoy being hungry in an hour - also, we added some mildly addictive stuff so you can come back here again tomorrow.
Umm, have you seen the Big Macs and fried fast food that most eat (at least in America?). You can call it a lot of things, but beautiful isn’t one of them.
Here’s the thing for many of us here: we have learned to eat in a way that supports training and our chosen lifestyle. If I go to a party and there’s a tray of fruit and vegetables and another of “party mix” chips/crackers/etc…, I would much prefer the fruit/veggie tray. If someone brought me a Quarter Pounder, fries, and Coke, I would thank them and give it to a homeless person. Eating a ton of crap is just not something I’m interesting in at this point. I do like high quality ice cream, local pizza, and the like but these are planned calories that I want.
Learning how to turn down food is an amazingly valuable AND difficult to develop social skill. There should actually be more conversations about this, to include how to NOT be offended if someone declines your offer.
I’ve learned to say “That sounds amazing, but no thanks”. I give the person the dopamine response of knowing they did a good job without having to eat the food in front of them.
I went for a long time just not having nut butters in the house. Too tempting, too dense in calories even if they were healthy calories. Now I just buy ridiculously expensive varieties. Makes me think twice before killing an $18 jar in two days!
I take the harm reduction route. Every plate has to have a good amount of lower caloric dense food on it. It is a compromise. I still get the Doritos, but also have to eat the pile of carrots. I’d rather just eat the Doritos though.
The words of my doc on my most recent visit was “Whatever you’re doing, keep it up, because it’s working”. I bet if I told him he’d reverse course, haha.
@Chris_Shugart I find, instead, I’m slashing budetary items to feed the nut butter addiction. “I don’t need ANOTHER t-shirt: this “Family Values Tour” shirt still fits!”
I, too, love nut butters. Almond is my favorite, but Nutzo (I think that’s the name) from Costco is superb. I like a glob with a bit of honey and raw cacao stirred in. I also occasionally stir in a bit of chocolate protein powder (whey or collagen) and it comes out like cake batter. Such a wonderful pre-bad snack, especially if the morning calls for fasted training. (not counting coffee and Surge).
Hey! Big Macs are awesome! With that being said, I generally do eat whatever I want as it is, and to think that I could instantly be 20% stronger likely means my muscles will quickly be growing thanks to this massive increase in tension! Lord give me strength!!
I guess the problem also is in the money. What @T3hPwnisher mentioned - he could eat a jar of some nut butter - thats like a full day of eating for a family of 4. You can buy more than 2 pounds of chicken for the price of that 1 jar… A big mac costs like half a pound of chicken. Anyone who has to feed someone in his family just cant afford to eat snacks like those.
I spend around £15-25 a week on lactose-free milk. I’m not even sure i’m fully lactose-intolerant. All I know is lactase tablets don’t help and I have digestive problems so try to avoid as many FODMAPs as I can. I’m sure the families of four would be disgusted at me.
That said, I do wish sunflower butter was as cheap as peanut butter.
