It's a Tough Choice. Or Is It?

Final results of a poll we conducted at T Nation Instagram for funsies.

What would you choose?

#2 obvious choice.

Only thing i’d need strength for is to lift another slice of pizza into ma mouth.

We wanted to add “…or unhealthy” to that second choice, but Instagram has a character limit. That may have swayed the results a little more.

So does that mean when bulking everything you gain will be muscle? Any surplus that would go towards fat just disappears?

Easy #2 choice if so. Being able to just progress/slowly add muscle non-stop without having to worry about fat gain will satisfy all the things I need from the gym. 20% gain in full-body strength and beyond will come eventually.

Sure, why not?

You should pick #1 if that puts you at or very near the top of your sport’s global competition.

You should pick #2 if you are anyone else.

I would pick #2. : (

This result actually surprises me, given I assume most people who follow or comment on T Nation IG would be people interested in training. Are so many people really concerned with just eating what ever they want. At my age 20% boost in strength would be crazy and something that would take me years to achieve or likely never get there. I eat mostly what I want anyway I just have a little control and don’t eat like a child.

I’d take the strength any day.

Strength. I eat anything I want fat or not

I already figured out how to eat whatever I want and not get fat.

Protip: you DON’T want to do what it takes for it to happen…

I’d give a lot to be able to eat however much I wanted and not get fat, but at the end of the day, other stuff takes priority…

I have a large person appetite but a small person body :sob:

Can i get the 2nd but “not get farts and diarrhea” ?

Oh yeah, being able to eat fruit without feeling like my gut is going to explode would be very nice

Ah yeah… Fruit or some veggies would be nice.

Summer is such a pain bc watermelon, peaches, plum and bayberries are my favourite.

Spinach and carrots don’t bother me too much.
The worst part is no onions and garlic.

Eat anything, no question

I agree with all of that, yea… Watermelon, honeydew, berries…

And i would love fresh onions and garlic on my food, but nope - the amount of nuclear fallout if i eat it would in a wider radius in my city than a nuclear bomb.

Genuinely not the direction i thought you were going with comment # 1

I cant eat anything “healthy” yea :frowning:

Yep, I pulled out the calculator to see what I’d be lifting if I was 20% stronger. John Haack would still out lift me at 198 (kinda by an embarrassing amount). So I’ll go with the eat whatever I want option.

Well, you gotta figure: a 20% gain in strength should mean MORE than a 20% increase in weight lifted. Strength is only PART of the equation there.
