Today wasn’t too bad…I did deads and made a lot of noise…some hot chicks here and there…not bad at all. I kind of like all this new people coming in cause it makes me feel stronger.
Agreed with that. I was also doing Deads today and I love the feeling when everyone in your area stops to watch. It gets exponentially more awesome when an epic band is playing on your headphones, like Ensiferum.
Fuck yeah on the Ensiferum reference, Yeah the benches were getting some action today thats for sure.
I went to Gold’s tonight at about 8:45 and was very pleasantly surprised about how uncrowded it was. I’m guessing the cold weather (relatively speaking) kept people home.
So Today I was doing legs…had a nice workout and everything. These guys were squatting, one of them who I’ve never seen works up to 3 plates per side on box squats. So he goes down to the chair and can’t get back up, the “spotter” can’t even lift the weight for an inch. So I go and grab the bar from one side and this other tool grabs the other. The kid kept trying to get lower and lower so he could get out.
Wow, the ellipticals, stairmasters, treadmills, and bikes were ALL taken. There was a decent line for them too. I was hitting legs again today. Did not have to wait at all for the squat rack, which I guess isn’t that much of a surprise. Surprisingly, the weight room wasn’t that crowded but upstairs (where all the treadmills and machines are) was packed. No eye candy at all…my gym is depressing.
Yesterday I was doing some barbell rows and was about to begin my set when some fat lady started walking across. I just grunted really loudly and she turned around and walked around me. Oh yeah.
Yeah cardio slots were very full on Wednesday, so was the aerobics room with whatever class was going on. Only noticed a couple new faces in the free weight area… Wasn’t bad.
Of all my days, I expect Wednesday to be the worst (I train Sat/Sun, Tue/Wed).
at the beginning of the month my gym was filled with the morbidly obese and the pathetically skinny. but then last night it was just the regulars, and one guy wearing jeans and dress shoes.
my gym was at capacity (around 200 ppl) today, so the couldn’t let people in until some left. there were about 10 people standing outside waiting for someone to leave.
Every year for 5 years I have seen this one dood in my gym on the day after New Year’s…guess that would normally be January 2nd…my gym is in my office though so if the 2nd falls on a Saturday or Sunday it’s closed…anyway…this 1 guy has been in the gym on the 1st ‘gym day’ of the year…he has been on the exercise bike when I walk into the gym and still on it when I leave…
I purposely went down to the gym much later than I normally do in order to test whether he would be there and sure enough he was there pedalling like fuck on the exercise bike…he never is there any other day of the year…I honestly believe he shows up when they open and stays until they close riding the exercise bike…he’s fat as shit, but I guess he figures he only needs one massive workout per year.

There actually is a sign at my gym asking to limit cardio sessions on those machines to half an hour at peak times so that everyone can have a go without having to wait too long…

I’m assuming that you mean you avoid any conditioning because you are “bulking” now? Bad idea.
Always do conditioning. Even if trying to add weight.
2-3 conditioning sessions a week shouldn’t hurt your mass gain at all. It will actually help because you will be able to eat more calories without them turning into fat. It keeps your metabolism moving and you’ll have more wind for when you lift.
Why are you giving advice?
Maybe because the best advice is unsolicited advice. Especially from an 09er. Who has an uncanny likeness to Arnold. And the same nickname. Which obviously qualifies him to dole out the unsolicited advice. Did i mention he is class of 09?

I guess there hasn’t been enough stupidity in 2010 yet to warrant forgiveness for us '09ers?

Switched gyms starting yesterday… outgrew my campus gym so switched to a well-equipped golds (dbs to 150, almost every HS machine, etc etc)
Didn’t see any resolutioner types either… just tons of guys bigger than me which is a nice change in environment. We’ll see how it is today, first monday, but I’m doing legs today so even if it gets busy shouldn’t get in my way much
Good to see that the West Coast Gold’s are holding true to their roots and actually have big strong guys lifting in them. The ones I go to around the DC area are chock-full of choads. I don’t even see any big bench/curl “bros” around here. So lame.
On a positive note, it looks like all the resolutioners are sticking to cardio only. I haven’t had a problem getting a rack or bench at all yet!
The cardio area is about the same, but there’s more guys trying to get hyooge with the DBs and machines. Fortunately there’s no problem getting a BB bench or rack.
Even when I go at night, my gym is still crowded. The bad part is that people are so inconsiderate. 2 skinny boys took my spot when I had my stuff there. Also, I was doing single-leg dumbbell squats and some jerk came right behind me and ran into my back leg. It was my last rep in my last set. I wanted to kill him, but he couldn’t hear me say “hey asshole” through his iPod.

I think thats every gym in DC - at least every-one I know of. I don’t do Gold’s, but I am sure WSC, where I go, is just as bad or even worse. And it was slammed Tuesday and Thursday.

Also called the yes/no machines or the vag spreader/closer machines. There should be a rule that only hotties can use them and not guys in spandex shorts that are at the gym for cycling class.
Yeah, same here. They all stick with the treadmills and bikes.
Leaving me a lot of space with the barbells and dumbbells.
YMCA wasnt too bad, bunch of high schoolers doing curls. And as always the “steroid brothers” are using up all the plates. Most people stay off the squat rack though. Kinda nice!
It’s not all bad… the clueless newbies never use dbs heavier than 25 lbs. They mostly stick to machines and cardio leaving the free weights open. Barbell complexes are far superior to cardio machines anyway! If they keep getting in the way, just load up a bar with BW +50% for a couple of sets of multiple rep squats or deads. Nothing like the sound of real training to scare the wannabees!
And if one of them wants to ask for advice… really wants to learn. Try to help the best we can. I know I owe to the guys I learned from a few years back. Plus you can meet some new lifting partners that way.
Besides… if all else fail, the posers will be gone in three or four weeks, and the memberships they buy will pay to keep the lights and heat on for the serious lifters all year long!
