Yes. I’m so happy to finally be hitting PR’s again dude.

Agile 8

Deadlift:
135 5x
225 5x
315 3x
405 2x
455 2x Very strong. Made a change to my form. Getting down to the bar and applying constant tension and adjusting my hips slightly back and forth until I can feel that they’re in the most powerful position and then explode. Slower off the floor, but it allows me to keep a much better lower back position and give me a stronger lockout.

Deadlift: (continued)
365 3x
365 3x
365 3x speed and form work

Stiff Leg Deadlifts:
365 5x
365 5x
365 5x

Supinated Pulldowns:
3 sets of 5 w/ a fat stack

BW Rows:
+90lbs 5x
+90lbs 5x
+90lbs 10x

Hyperextensions:
65lbs behind the head for 3 sets of 10

Paused Bench:
45 40x
135 5x
185 5x
225 5x
245 3x
265 3x
265 3x
265 3x
265 3x
265 3x
265 3x
265 3x
265 3x
265 3x
265 6x These were an absolute joke and a half. I was just practicing my pause form.

Wide Grip Pulldowns:
3 sets of 10

Hyperextensions: (again)
BW 25x
BW 25x
BW 25x
BW 25x
BW 25x

Went to the track at 10am.

Sprints:
60m 2x
50m 2x
40m 2x
30m 2x
20m 2x
10m 2x

Running on the football field:
ran 10 yards and walked back
then ran 20 yards and walked back
same thing with 30 yards
then 40 yards

90
100
100
90
80
70
60
50
40
30
20
10
What’s that 1100 yards total?

Bleachers:
Jumped up the steps between 2 and 4 steps at a time
Did this from one end of the bleachers to the other; maybe 12 times or so

Went to the park around noon.

BarStarz:
The little kids let us work in with them on the jungle gym.
10x10 pullups
10x20 dips
A hundred pullups and two hundo dips. You get a good arm pump just from dips and pullups actually.
Saw a little kid probably 4 years old do the most perfect, upright full squat I’ve ever seen. I wonder how many videos he had to watch to get his form that good. Chia said “Quick, somebody teach that kid how to snatch!”

Went to the gym around 2:30.

Press:
45 5x
95 5x
135 5x
155 3x
170 3x

Seated DB Press:
70’s 10x
60’s 12x
50’s 12x lol, no matter what the weight is at this point I can only do 12
40’s 15x

Side Raise, Front Raise Combo:
25’s 10x each direction
25’s 10x each direction
25’s 10x each direction

Me and Chia then did 2 sets of every curl machine in the gym. We were at the Rush btw cuz it was Sunday and the real gym is closed.

Then we went to see Escape Plan. Unfortunately there weren’t any showings between like noon and 4:00 otherwise we would have seen the movie first and gone to the gym to take advantage of the anabolic effect of seeing Arnie on the big screen.

10/21/2013

Squat:
45 5x
135 5x
185 5x
225 5x
275 3x
315 3x
370 3x
250 15x I was gonna do 20, but then I was like “this really sucks”

High Bar Oly Squat:
185 5x Hurting my right knee really badly. Probably wasn’t doing something right.
185 15x Fixed it. These felt good. I’ll delve more deeply into high bar as an accessory in the future.

Hyper Extensions:
5 sets of 25

Leg Press:
Singe leg about 4 sets of 20 each leg
Double leg I think 3 sets of 50

Well… you managed to persuade me to start reading the Conan stories. Somewhere between mentioning them in Wendler’s forum, and discussions of the religions/philosophies in that suicide thread, lol. Found the epubs and started reading on my phone last night.

Awesome!!! I can ramble on about them for way too long lol.

I love the themes they present in relation to strength training and even life in general.

Starting especially around my generation the media kids are exposed to is extremely intellect and passive and compromise centric. The hero is usually some small, pathetic weakling who overcomes his big, mean foes with superior intelligence and the power of friendship.

That’s fine. I understand wanting to instill positive values and good study habits and KINDNESS and rational, civilized behavior in kids. BUT. The ubiquity of this made it seem like strength and aggression/assertiveness were villainous.

I remember loving the contrast to everything else when I read Conan for the first time as a kid. The way he defeats superior intellect and even magic and forces beyond the physical WITH his unmatched physical attributes was refreshingly simple.

It’s like if there were some magical barrier and people said “It’s completely immune to physical harm!” In a regular story the hero would have to come up with some ingenious plan to get around it or find some magical artifact to counter it, but in Conan he’s just like “Well fuck you, you have no fucking idea how hard I can hit it.” It might sound stupid, but in the stories you’re so conditioned to expect a complicated solution that the straight-forwardness of the “brute force your way through it” method is actually wonderfully unexpected.

Elliot Hulse talks about similar themes sometimes such as getting back in touch with some of the more primal aspects of humanity to better your training and your health. You can make the barbarous roots of humanity’s ancestry work for you in positive ways.

Right. That’s why I like the Tarzan of the Tarzan literary series so much (one of my favorite characters). The man is a genius in every respect, but he’ll fuck shit up with his bare hands and anything he made with them.

Oh shiiiiiit.

Gonna be all over this. Those are all free downloads on Amazon for being classics.

For that matter, I suggest reading Xeonophon’s Cyropaedia. Basically the education of Cyrus the Great and how he became the founder of the Persian Empire.

It’s a good read. A little tough due to the language used in the translation, but good nevertheless.

I heard you were a trap specialist. How much do you farmer walk, bro?

I was just thinking about this the other day! Lo has it been many moons since I last took the walk of the farmer. I need to find somewhere to add that in. I have always liked them both for enjoyment and utility. We don’t have any good handles unfortunately; I have to use the trap bar.

Quincy I bought the entire 25 book series by Edgar Rice Burroughs in ebook format on Amazon for two dollars. I’ve almost finished the first book; although it says I’m only 3% of the way through the series… Cool shit so far though. I really like it.

Knew this would please you.
