It Vexes Me. I'm Terribly Vexed

Simulated Car Deadlift: set up two bars stuck into those things that attach to a power rack to do like landmines with and stuff
Worked up to a heavy double with 5 plates per bar.

Spent a long time fooling around with setting it up just right…

Atlas Stones:
190 2x
240 4x
240 5x

Axle Push Press:

115 5x

Sledgehammer Levers:
30 or 40 reps in total with each arm forwards and backwards

Full disclosure; I’m grip nerding out a little bit lately. Grip has always been a sort of strong point for me, and I’d kind of like to pursue it a little bit. Not for any real reason, although I know grip is important for strongman, but my grip is already good enough for the stuff I’ll have to do anyway. I mostly just want to do it for fun.

Yes will do!

Just did some DB pressing and band pushdowns at the house. I basically slept this entire day. Tax season at work is fucking insane, and I’ve been at the office till 2 or sometimes even 4 in the morning virtually every night. And then on Saturday I was out drinking till 3. So I deloaded a little bit today.

Deloading at home as well, our winter won’t fuck off so it’s hibernating season. Are you allowed to use a close grip in comps? Goodluck with the strongman endeavor, vin won’t be as lonely now on these logs. pun intended MUAHAHHA

Oh definitely. In fact it’s not even all that uncommon.

SPF Ironman Powerlifting Meet

They started over a half hour early, even though they said lifting wouldn’t begin till 9. So I ended up having to warm up to 365 in like 10 minutes. They didn’t have collars in the warmup room either, and when I walk out I get a pretty big sway, so the plates on the right side of the bar were slid like halfway out and it was a crazy uneven grinder. Not the best way to start the day.

Squat Attempts:
405 3 whites; good lift. This was kind of a poor rep of this weight though; was feeling cold
425 3 whites; good lift. Must have gotten warm; this was literally blazing fast. I don’t know if I even squat 225 that fast normally.
440 3 whites; good lift; 15lb PR. Kinda surprised I got that honestly, but nice! A 440 squat at 198 is moving slightly closer to non-suck territory.

Bench:
310 2 reds; no lift. Butt came up; classic me. And so it begins…
310 3 whites; good lift.
325 3 reds; no lift. I have no words. I literally did this for 2 singles like a week ago. I just don’t fucking know. I’m fed up with PL bench press.

Deadlift:
500 3 whites; good lift. It was slow. I’ve been at the meet for like 10 hours already, and I’m pretty exhausted.
525 2 reds; no lift. Apparently I had a slight hitch. I don’t think I did, but w/e.
525 3 whites; good lift. I widened my stance to make the lockout easier. I think I’m probably still stronger with a wider stance.

1275 total weighing in at 194 the day of.

So there it is. One 15lb squat PR and a 40lb total PR. I guess I can’t complain. I will though. Fucking bench was such bullshit. I should have had 325 easy and probably 335. Fucking powerlifting man. I’m done with this bench bullshit. It’s all overhead all the time now. Your butt can’t come up on a goddamn overhead press. I might still do a fucking bench only meet at some point lol. I just can’t stand it. I don’t feel like 310 is at all indicative of a max bench press for me. It’s stupid.

I saw Tee Cummins squat 775 raw there at like 225 bw. That was cool. I saw Dave Hoff and Louie Simmons walkin around. The coolest though was I saw fucking Larry Pacifico! Damn that guy is a legend.

Oh and apparently I somehow took 1st place in the 198 open. Freaking 10 million divisions… Gotta love powerlifting lol.[/quote]

Congratulations man. That’s a solid meet. It has to be a good feeling knowing that you’re good for more and you still won.

How the hell did I miss this?!?!?!?!?!?! Grrrrrrrrr.

Congratulations, good meet, nice trophy??? Good deal on the total PR. Great dead.

Wish I could find push/pull meets, I cannot stand, do not understand the bench. Squat is sorta out of my sphere of cognition also. “Hey dude, how strong are you? Hang on, I’ll go get a bench or some racks and I’ll show you, lemme see…” No…just go pick some heavy thing like a Chevy S-10 ass end up.

Anyway, congrats.

Amen on the bench press lol!

Got an actual little trophy this time rather than a fake battle axe or katana or something. I prefer just a trophy or a medal so that’s cool.

And thanks!

Rolling Thunder: I made a loading pin yesterday out of galvanized pipe; time to try it out!
worked up to a single at roughly 155
got it pretty easy with the right; left hand barely broke it off the ground but didn’t get a full pick
did some holds with around 110 as a backdown

25lb Plate Pinches:
did a few second holds handing off from right to left for a few sets

Pullups:
3 sets of 10

V-Bar Rows:
3 sets of 10

Preacher Curls:
3 sets of 10 w/ 90lbs

DB Hammer Curls:
3 sets of 10 w/ 50’s

Rope Curls:
4 sets of 10+

Vinny here’s my log press:

As you can see I have an issue just staying balanced underneath the implement.

Here’s my first time trying rolling thunder:

Not sure if 155 is good for a first shot at it, but it was fun to build and fun to use!

This was a pretty bad workout. I didn’t even get started till 10pm, and I had been out drinking a bit with my sister for her birthday. Oh well. There are a few people in the world who come before training. Only a few though.

Press:
45 10x
95 10x
135 5x
155 5x
165 5x Had my next to last rep get WAY forward. Took forever to drift it back into a position I could press it from. This set kinda ruined my shoulder strength for the rest of the workout.
165 4x
135 8x
135 8x

Paused Close Grip Bench Press:
45 10x
45 10x
135 10x
185 5x
225 10x
225 5x
225 5x

Some Shoulder Press Machine:
3 sets of 10

Tricep Seated Skullcrusher Type Machine:
3 sets of 10

did 3 sets of 10 wrist curls superset with 3 sets of 10 reverse wrist curls w/ 65lbs

So pretty abbreviated tonight, but I still did it, so I don’t have to flagellate myself.

Hard to tell from a side view Chris. But a pointer for next time is to keep your elbows in as much as possible.

3/21/2014

Axle Push Press:
25 10x
115 5x
165 5x
165 5x
165 5x
165 5x

Axle Squat:
115 5x
165 5x
205 5x
255 5x
295 5x
345 3x
295 5x
295 5x
295 5x
255 10x First time ever trying squats with a fat bar. Felt different. Right knee was making a lot of noise for some reason.

Ab Wheel:
3 sets of 10

3/22/2014

18" Deadlift:
45 10x
135 5x
225 5x
315 3x
405 3x
495 3x
545 1x
585 1x
495 3x

Log Push Press:
135 3x
135 3x
155 3x
175 3x
185 3x
195 1x Strength felt great on these today, but I had to stop here because there was a lot of pain in my left rotator cuff and I was even having difficulty raising my left arm. It feels much better now, but if I would have kept pushing it I think it’s likely I would have injured something. Next time it’s feeling good though I’ll go for a log PR; hopefully like 225 or something would be a good start.

Farmer’s Walk:
250lbs per hand for 4 short walks

Did a few 10s holds per hand with the rolling thunder at like 110lbs.

I really like using some sort of chains for working overhead stability. Whether the weight is from the chains themselves, or from loading pins hooked onto the chains. Trying to stabilize against the swinging seems to work very well. Well, for me at least.
