Fucking bench was such bullshit. I should have had 325 easy and probably 335. Fucking powerlifting man. I’m done with this bench bullshit. It’s all overhead all the time now.
Quitting when it’s getting hard, eh? I like your style.
Why not switch to leg-up benching (aka cripple bp) for a while? I like to do these no-setup variations when the setup shit gets on my tits.

I’ve struggled to keep my butt down on bench forever lol. It’s not a recent thing. I’m just fed up with bothering; I’d rather do strongman. One of my accessory lifts though is paused close grip bench. For some reason I don’t seem to have an issue staying down when I go close grip.
So if that goes well for a while maybe I’ll just try doing my bench that way in powerlifting. Then I’ll be like Paul Carter and I can constantly mention how I bench close grip in a meet, which means even if you beat my bench, really I still beat you cuz I got close grip bonus points.
Hey Chris, just curious, have you tried setting your feet first and not moving them when you bench? I noticed in the last video you posted you’re moving your feet around up until right before you pull the bar out. I’ve had a similar issue (with less weight) and have done a pretty good job of eliminating the problem by setting my feet first and also moving my feet under me instead of out wide.
Basically I follow the setup Dave Tate talks about in the “you think you can bench” video (I’m sure you’ve seen it). Anyway it’s helped me a lot.

Happy about that pressing PR. Although still such a long way to go. I need to be hitting 175 for like 15 lol.
Fucking look at that. That is literally twice as fast as my reps of 315 leading up to the meet. Why wasn’t this my normal grip? Fuck.
stronk. sorry to hear about the meet man. strongman is more fun than powerlifting anyway. deadlifting with a flat back is overrated.

I think it sounds like someone is rapping that live somewhere in the background. Very distracting…

You need to come to our gym on one of our RHCP days ![]()
(yes srsly we have straight RHCP only blasting in there sometimes)
English fail!
I knew it was all business once I saw your shirt was off!!
That was fast as hell

Nice, really nice.
Curious: A lot of people spend a lot of time like you down in the hole fidgeting around and going in and out of lock and all that before they pull. I would totally forget what I was doing if I tried that. I’d easily lose 50-60 pounds of pull.
How do you do that and not lose a ton? Does this help focus you? And I’m not trying to be a dick (not that I have to try…) but I’d lose a lot of energy and focus that way, but maybe that’s just another dilemma associated with my personality dysfunctions. Seriously, just curious because I’ve seen a lot of lifters over the decades do this, some of them monster pullers, and I know I can’t.
Anyway, very solid pulls.

Ahahaha! I’m right there with you man. The way I have always deadlifted has been pretty much grip and rip. Ideally I will speed up the setup significantly as time goes on, but at the moment this was my first time trying this new form, and it took me quite a while each time to find the spot that felt right. I’m hoping that after I get some more practice with it, it’ll come naturally.
But yeah that’s all it is, and I’m sure it is taking quite a few pounds off my pull. 415 definitely felt slower than usual. I’m just having to search around down there for where I want my new setup to be and how it feels in my back muscles.

I can dig it, totally. “Grope, grip, rip.”
Again, very nice pulls.
Oh, and HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

That WAS a really fast close grip! I don’t know what it is, but I’m the same way. I’ve got a build more for deadlifting, but somehow the longer arms do better benching with a closer grip…go figure.
Would you film your log presses already!?

I think that is pretty normal. CGBPs often feel stronger and faster than comp-grip stuff but sadly only up to 80-90%.

Mmhmm. Way faster off the chest, but if you go for a true max it can feel like I hit a bit of a wall. We’ll see how it goes; not a focus at the moment anyhow.
