It Vexes Me. I'm Terribly Vexed

What program are you running? It looks pretty badass. It also appears that you have been having some great lifts recently. Do you feel close to PR’s?
5/3/1 with coan/philippi substituted on deadlift days. I like to do a good amount of backdown sets and accessory work though.

PR wise I’ve been struggling on the bench as always, but my back feels really good. I am expecting a nice PR after coan/philippi. Squat has been feeling great. If I threw on knee wraps and did a meet I could hit 450 right now.

i always feel bad about how much accessory work i do when I look at your log

Don’t stare at it.

You typically won’t do what you can’t.

Much to my dismay I was unable to make it to the gym Friday, so I did Friday’s and Saturday’s workout back to back.

Deadlift:
135 5x
225 5x
315 3x
405 1x
455 2x

Speed Deads:
365 3x
365 3x
365 3x
365 3x
365 3x
365 3x

Three circuits of 8 reps of stiff legs with 315, bent rows with 185, supine grip lat pulldowns, and hyperextensions with a bar behind my neck.

Me and a few others were planning to go watch our friend’s olympic lifting meet that afternoon, so I was under time pressure. As a result I did that entire back workout with basically zero rest time.

Press:
45 5x
95 5x
115 5x
135 5x
155 1x
165 1x
175 3x
155 5x

Did a few sets of 5 strict pressing the log. Very awkward to strict press that.

DB Press:
70’s 10x
70’s 10x
70’s 10x

Cable Curls with Fat Bar:
whole stack 10x
whole stack 10x
whole stack 10x

Tricep Pushdowns with Fat Bar:
4 sets of 10-15

Incline Chest Supported DB Curls:
30’s 10x
30’s 10x
30’s 10x
30’s 20x

Cable Curls Again:
5 sets of 10

Rope Pushdowns:
5 sets of 10

Didn’t even take me 3 hours.
What the fuck is going on here? Sets of 10 with the 70’s for DB overhead pressing!? The 40’s kick my butt, and your overhead press isn’t that far ahead of mine. (I can do 160X3, and you did 175X3 in that workout…)

cough yeah! what’s the deal Fry? Maybe we should do an overhead challenge or sometin…maybe ionno :3333333.

The addition of the seat does wonders for me. I think I probably have a poor base when I do regular standing press.

Hmmmmmmmm… Does max one handed barbell snatch count as an overhead challenge?

Oh, okay. I do mine standing… LIKE A MAN!

So, are your abs/back weak, or something? I think I am personally stronger (lol at least compared to the Z press style of seated which is unsupported on the floor) standing.

Don’t do dumbell pressing standing. That’s my advice.

It’s either that, or sit down unsupported on a bench.

Ab weakness is a definite possibility. It’s definitely not back weakness, although it could be a bit of pain avoidance as standing pressing does bother that sciatica in the left side of my low back more than anything else.

I’m actually going to start practicing just statically holding the bar at lockout on my last rep of all my pressing sets. I have a hard time stabilizing in that position; plus it will work the hell out of your traps lol.

Totally unrelated to what we were talking about, but has anyone seen that video? It is full of fucking awesomeness. 2100+ Pounds raw, and some final attempts even looking easy.

Yes, I feel like that is the case too.

Glad to see you finally made it. Please take a seat.

Squat:
45 5x
135 5x
185 5x
225 5x
275 3x
315 10x Never tried a set of 10 with 3 plates before. It’s a nice thing to have done.

Snatch:
45 2x
95 2x
95 2x
115 2x
115 2x
135 2x
135 2x
145 1x Right shoulder started hurting here. I figured that was enough of a new movement to put it through for one day.

Bench:
45 20x
135 10x
185 8x
225 5x
255 3x
280 6x
290 4x

Paused Close Grip w/ feet up:
245 5x
245 5x

Incline:
185 8x
185 8x

Left after that. Doing bench just depressed me. All I can think about is like 8 months ago when I was doing 5 paused triples with 290 followed by a touch and go set of 6.

It looks like this competition was held in the Kremlin.

Hey man,

I’ve been playing with the Snatch (lol) for a a month or 2 now and I notice some shoulder pain when I do a muscle snatch vs. a plain ol snatch. Maybe you’re trying to press the weight (like in a muscle snatch) instead of pulling yourself under the bar? Just a thought. The Snatch is a tough one to master…
