Is Wii Fit a Good Workout?

Hasn’t come out in the states yet, Japan only. But I’m really really really looking forward to this!!!

What do you think??

If you just want to lose weight I suppose it may work, but it has to be a lot more intense, I have heard of people losing a ton of weight from Dance dance revolution, including one of my friend who lost nearly 80 pounds playing that all day.

Hmmm, i’m sure its gona make everybody ripped. I mean, that 225lbs long stick you lifted in the Gym isn’t gona make you fitt… Forget about that rusty metal thing, and play with a plastic/rubber board.

I think it has alot to do with what you call fit? Maybe being flexible and quicker? (I dont think we can really get “Explosive” on that board).

But hey, atleast ur doing what the coaches are saying “getting ur ass off the chair and move”.

id weight untill they come out with the

Wii bench and squat rack
before you buy in,
also…
at 70 bucks a pop
you could get 2 months in a gym for the price of the game

I wonder about this too. Playing the boxing game while drunk and excited definitely gets you sweaty. And the baseball game gives me a horrbile bicep cramp. That wiifit platform dooes look sick fellas. It’s more like yoga/stretching though, so it could be incorporated painlessly into a routine. Caution fat people- ‘no more than 300lbs’

I’m sorry but it sounds like a joke you asking people here about wii.

Half jokingly I think this could solve childhood obesity. Seriously though, all most of these kids do today is play video games, why not “trick” them into sweating off some of those Cheetoos? If it gets them moving and not sitting on their asses all day I’m all for it.

Wow this is dumb. You’re not going to get in shape from a video game!

For the guy who lost 80lbs doign DDR, he would have lost it if he got up off his fat ass and went for a run everyday as well. Just imgaine if he lifted weights! Then he wouldn’t be skinny fat.

Man get out of the house and live a little away from the TV!

Lame excuse for not actually being active. Are Americans really that lazy? Don’t answer that. Tae Bo is better than this. Does everything we do have to be fun and entertaining? Our kids are going to enter the workforce expecting to be entertained and expecting to be patted on their back by the boss. /rant

However it is nice that a game manufacturer is interested in health … or money … or both.

I don’t know why you guys have to be so negative, I think this could be a really good way to get in shape. I do have one concern however…

Overtraining.

Maybe it would be safer for beginners to do a 4 week Subbuteo cycle to break them in first

Uhh, Wii fit is better than nothing, but it’s not a “good workout”.

The only decent exercise you’ll get from videogames is from the dancing games. I started playing at 6’2" 280. My lowest weight was 189 6’4". I had stick arms, rib bones and was still flabby. I starting doing lots of squats/deads/other compounds and presently I’m 217 6’4" with less bodyfat than at my lowest weight.

One Summer I was grounded and several times a week when my parents were working I’d walk 3+ miles to the arcade, play 5-10 games of DDR, walk back home.

It’s still just cardio to burn a few hundred calories. Weightlifting and diet are much more important. I played DDR earlier tonight. It’s fun and you’re moving a lot, but I consider it recreation. I start feeling wasted like I’m running a marathon if I go at it more than 30 minutes anyway.

true, but the game pretty much was how he lost weight or else he wouldn’t have just gone for a run everyday, people are just that damn lazy now.

true,
bad place to post this
but it is a great way to trick un-ripped people into getting off there ass

WORD!

If my girlfriend can’t do her cardio without her ipod or, when in the studio, some TV background, she’s pissed as if she’d lost meaningful time.
However, truly connecting with your body or your talents requires do focus. Distractions won’t do you good in the long term.

It’s not going to replace a regular workout but, it may be good to get in some NEPA while being entertained.
