DDR & Weight Loss

OK to start this story I should go way back. I heard about DDR(Dance Dance Revolution) before it hit the states while it was over in Japan from my dad who went to visit. I thought wow, I want to do that. Anyways, it started to get shipped to the states(arcades) afew years backs but I never tried it. Out of embarrassment, I always thought now theres a great way to get moving.

Fast forward to close to present day, I was reading T-Nation(or T-mag as it was then?) and someone posted a link to a CNN story of a girl who lost weight. Most of you were laughing at it. I found out through this story they now make a home version, so I went out and got a ps2, a dance pad & one of the games. I wanted to play it cause it seemed fun, but also I knew it would get me moving.

So some of you may still be laughing, but this game is FUN. To put it to you this way, I do light cardio and 20-30min into it my bodys screaming no more. I hate cardio, even the stuff I somewhat like I cant stand. Anyways, I got on this dance pad, and danced for an hour… A few hours later I got back on & did 30min more… then a few hours later another hour, I cant help it this game rocks. I start sweating my butt off and I dont even realize it, Im having so much fun I dont care that my legs feel like hell. So this may be the less than T-manly way of doing stuff, but I’m not planning on replacing workouts with it, I plan on playing cause its fun. And if I get up moving, doing something other than sitting on my ass for afew more hours a day then thats awesome.

Anyways, I think if you like dancing (and bouncy trance/techno/dance beats)you should just try it out for fun at an arcade. If you happen to live near an arcade that has some ‘hardcore’ players you’d be mystified, the highest levels (or highest levels utilizing 2 pads) are insane.

Now the only thing I have to worry about is wearing out my dance pad to soon.

There is a website of people who lost weight (cause they’re doing a search) with ddr, I just hope when the company who’s going to promote weight loss with it stresses you should eat right x.x
I noticed some of the teens did not change their eating habits, others went on real low calorie diets for their size.

The only problem is it is expensive even if you play it at home it adds up. I still think its a good way to get kids/teens moving though. When all else fails, put them in front of a video game that requires movement :stuck_out_tongue:

Hilarious
But, I’m not gonna laugh too hard, after all if it works and you’re having fun…GO FOR IT!

thats what I figure… whatever can get my chunky butt moving more often cant be bad :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s fun that I’m having my ex do is HOC with DDR using a kettlebell. It’ll help burn some more fat and add a little something to the game.

Are you kidding?! That’s incredibly T-Manly, you’ve found and entertaining, coordination cardio exersize that improves body composition, reactions, timing, flexiblility, GPP, and alertness. You’re a genius! I prefer DDR max though . . .
I (heart) video games.

I never thought I would see the day that DDR was mentioned on T-Mag. Honestly, this is the best thing that happened to weight loss since anything…ever.

I lost well over 75 lbs of fat playing DDR for over a year. I can tell you something, its the best diet in the world. I didnt even change my dieting habits at all. When I get back to America (currently in Japan), I plan on getting back on my home version of the games…or home versions since I have basically all of them, and getting rid of the rest of the fat I dont want, all the while, having fun.

You cant beat this, its the only cardio in the world that Ive found thats actually fun. You all owe it to yourselves to try it. Granted it takes some time to get good at it (I got good after a few months), once you get there, its the best excercise that doesnt seem like it. Sometimes you have to pull me off of the thing.

As embarassing at it is, I would completely endorse this to anyone who wants to have fun and lose weight.

Actually the disc I have is DDR Max (1) I hate some of the songs, but i love the techno/trance ones, but most of those are hard. Over the weekend I was able to AA ordinary world light, and A Sandstorm. Woot… Im SOO sore today! lol
