Is Peeing on Jesus Really Funny?

Nonsense, you do not seriously believe that any educated Roman believed in Zeus sitting on Mount Olympus throwing thunderbolts?

At nest they went along with it to appease the hoi polloi, just like many politicians do today.
Considering the tremendous effort they used to represent and the tremedous expense they went to worship, I’d give it a resounding, Hell Yes.

You are going to have to do some serious ass archaeology and history revamping to prove differently.

So you got some proof?
You mean other than that they wrote quite openly about their skepticism and that Roma emperors declared themselves to be gods?

You can look it up, since most people could not read or write anyway they felt quite free to express their feelings.

orion is pretty much right…I get choked up saying that. Although you can’t talk about ‘Rome’ meaningfully without specifying which period what he is saying is basically correct.

I’d be happy to provide any ‘proof’ regarding the cynical use of religion and soothsaying(usually from daily entrail readings) by both Greek and Roman leaders. It’s true. Quintus Sertorius for instance used to have a little white fawn that spoke to him then he conveyed the messages to his army. Scipio Africanus conducted an entrail reading on the Sicilian shore before he sailed to Africa prior to Zama and declared the Gods had promised victory(they were right). Plenty of other examples. Plato quotes Socrates as saying that religion is a ‘noble lie’ that should be used to control the hoi polloi as orion said.

Doesn’t surprise me one bit. They are too busy trying to distance themselves from the actions of Stalin and Mao on internet forums. That can take a lot of energy.
In any discussion of historical atrocities, I’m pretty sure that Stalin and Mao can’t hold a candle to the death and destruction that’s been perpetrated in the name of religion. Not even close my friend.

But you would be dead wrong to make such an assertion.

The Stalin/Mao figure is estimated to be in the 100 million range.

All of the religion caused deaths over the centuries combined wouldn’t hit that number. Not even close, my friend.

You’d best do your history homework before you decide to pipe up and e-duel with me.
Are we e-dueling? lol

And are you absolutely sure about this? Now, keep in mind, I’m not picking on one particular religion here, I’m talking about the history of all the religions of the world. Think about how many have died in the name of their particular mythology.

This is funny. I assert a position, ask a few questions of you, and call you friend; you respond with a vacuous internet threat and call me a knave. God save me from your followers!! lol

I’m quite sure. But you can’t be about your position because you know it was some empty headed, unsubstantiated stab that sounded good at the time and you thought surely no one will call me on this and I will appear so intelligent on this forum for saying it.

You were wrong.
You presume quite a bit with your false projections on my statement. What is a fact, is how bent out of shape you get when someone challenges your religion. Fact of the matter is, that the death toll that could be attributed to religion is, for all intents and purposes, incalculable. I mean, people have been killing each other in the name of religious belief for so fucking long that it literally predates records.

Ever since Grog and Flog were arguing in their caves about who’s explanation for the big shiny thing in the sky was, we’ve been killing each other over who’s sky cake was best (shameless Patton Oswalt plug). Islam and Christianity are just the new dances; animism, paganism, shamanism, the Greek and Roman deities, the Egyptian gods, the Sumerian gods, etc., all predate Christianity and Islam. My statement was one of opinion, not fact, since as I’ve said, the numbers would be unattainable.

But maybe I’ve erred when I say that “they can’t hold a candle to religion”; quite possibly you’re right and religion is actually in the same league as Stalin/Mao. In which case, they’re in the same league as Stalin/Mao. Congratulations. My belief is still that Stalin and Mao’s numbers don’t reach that of religion.

Perhaps you can provide for us the numbers on how many have died in the name of religion. Help us to uncloud this issue and give us the comparative numbers so that we may know, and we’ll all be better off for it. Since you’ve stated that you’re “quite sure”, you must have some cold hard facts for us.

The way I see it religion is alot like socialism/communism; sounds great on paper…

I don’t know where the threat was much less whether it was vacuous or not but the “knave” comment should’ve left little doubt to a prudent man that I was just messin around.
Well, I figured that you were going for a bit of funny by calling me “knave”. I mean, who calls someone a knave? I mean, really? Next thing you know, we’ll be throwing shoes at each other. lol

You made the wild assumption; you provide the numbers.

Word to the wise: 100 million is lots and lots and lots and lots.

To play devil’s advocate here, i.e., to take your side…you should’ve/could’ve responded, “Push, you’re right and one of the reasons is the earth’s population simply couldn’t support religion killing more than 100 million people because it virtually wasn’t possible until the 20th century.”

There. Now quit making me make your argument for you, knucklehead. Or knave. Or whatever you are.
I made a statement of opinion, which is all I can make since as I’ve said, the numbers are unattainable. I realize that 100 million is “lots and lots and lots and lots”, however people have been killing each other in the name of their religion for a long, long, long, long time. Just think about how long we’ve been killing each other in the name of religion, now come to the full realization that we’re still doing it. Crazy.

I am not talking about ‘some’ who had a cynical view of religion and used it to manipulate people… That happens in every governance. I am talking about that the vast majority of said governments were atheist.

facepalm Apologies to whomever found the image offensive, but i must ask, why was that offensive to you, but an image of Jesus on a piece of toast isn’t?

I think the idiot who thought they saw Jesus on a piece of toast is a moron for which I have no respect. You put the image of something I hold dear on a dogs asshole, that’s offensive. If I took a picure of your mom, or sister, or something you hold dear and put it on the asshole of an animal, I am sure you would find it offensive too.

Thank you for you apology, it is certainly accepted. Sorry for my outburst.

Well, okay then. Let’s get back to talking about afterlife and whatnot (:

Did you literally post a pic of Jesus Christ on a cracker?

No, this one: http://importsnc.com/forums/inc-gazette/58576-jesus-dogs-arse.html
