Being pissed off does not make a higher level of violence necessary. If your assailant is smaller, weaker etc than you are, the level the of violence that could be reasonably be considered necessary to stop the threat will be lower (unless there is a weapon involved). Disparity of force.
Necessary or not, if you use violence to protect yourself and the police get involved, expect to leave in handcuffs. If, as a man, you have used that violence against a woman, expect a difficult legal fight.
