Iron in the Blood

Mmm, that shrimp curry dish sounds very yummy!

And great job on the deadlift PR! It always feels great to break a barrier with your lifting!

Yeah for you on the DL!! Great stuff!

Forgive my noob stupid question, but how exactly were you stalled on this? Could you just not pick up the weight or was it a matter of compromised form? Just curious.

Thanks KP!
status update:
I just reread my old log and the most I lifted at that time was 175lbs 1 x 1 which means this is my first PR since I’m back in the game!!! yeah baby! - I thought I had reached the 200lbs back in 2006 but that was not the case. This makes the 185lbs ever so SWEET.

on another note my rackpulls have also caught up. 185lbs for 2-4 reps, 205 for 1 x 1. And I was feeling disappointed about that 225 fail. This isn’t a fail afterall if I have caught up what originally took me 2 years to get!! (sorry I am full of myself this morning)

 • I am freakin close to my bench PR which was 140 lbs 1 x 3 - give me another couple of weeks and I will be cranking out 5 reps just to have another PR in my new log

 • close to my C&P PR which was 90 lbs 1 x 5 - just a few more reps and I can swing this. Actually I’m doing it this saturday. Enough screwing around.

 • cable rows 100 1 x 3 - this one needs a little more work

 • pushups I could do 4 x 25 (Damn!) haven’t done those in years. I bet I could maybe do a dozen. sheesh. well you can’t win them all

 • dips I was doing 5 x 5 - not far off either on this.

leg extensions: 155lbs 1 x 10 -damn. I’d rather have my deads go uo than these anyhow. But shit twice the weight and high reps?

leg curl 95 4 x 8 - another one that’s far off.

leg press 315 4 x 8 - 245 on these this week.

overall my upper body strength is coming up much faster. I never did get really far on those squats with proper form either. Very happy with my results. OK enough gloating.

just catching up and seeing the recipes… THANK YOU.

now if u could ask my local stores to carry coconut milk, or tell me where it is, that’d be awesome.
what T said - we have an asian -ethnic section at our grocery store with sauces and asian noodles and such. The cans of coconut milk can usually be found there. And your welcome for the recipes. I love food, and I find it a fun challenge to come up with meals structured around my lifting program that the husband and I also enjoy eating. mmm coconut milk. I actually buy a couple of cans and store them. They are always handy with fish and chicken.

awwwwww man! why haven’t i thought of making a curry dish? shit that sounds YUM YUM YUM! i actually have a time consuming chicken recipe but the shrimp sounds soooooooooo easy.

coconut milk is usually found in the “ethnic” section. look for the asian foods. don’t bother with the light crap either…it is so delicious. you should find curry paste there as well.

hi nlmain! thanx for the idea. have some wine for me too.
Like I mentionned to Kimba - I’m all for making it easy during week days. Saturday I go to my local market, see what’s fresh, buy some wine and actually spend time on my food. I’ll drink a glass to our food-loving selves this saturday T - trying to keep off during the weekdays.

cheers

Definitly RBlue- plus my first PR since october makes this especially elating.

It was superglued to the floor by 2 hot males sitting on my plates - care to come join us?
seriously I couldn’t lift it - was it form? mind over matter? Not sure. But as it is my 1 rep max I would say a little of both. At the end of the day I couldn’t budge it from the floor on all my last tries.

Sounds like a psychological barrier. But those are huge to push through! Gloat on!

catching up on the logs, no lifting to post. I just spent 3 hours playing Dragon Age as a reward for clean eating and lifting all week.

Awesome deadlift PR!! I like your description “super-glued to the floor”. That has totally happened to me, and it was a head-case issue.

Were those pullups unassisted?

you made me crave curry!! so i went to the little market nearby that i would never buy seafood or frozen items from. next to my curry paste were baby clams and crab. i’ve never bought lump crab meat in a can…and i haven’t missed out. :frowning:

i whipped up coconut milk, curry paste, garlic and extra spices (cause i like stuff HOT) clams and cauliflower. took like 20 min. it’s for dinner and some lunch tomorrow since i’m running out of the week’s food.

sorry for hijack- just had to share- it was your recipe that made me do it…

and another sorry, but did i miss, are you trying to lean up? 1600-ish is probably where i should be, but damn that looks sooooo skimpy to me…:frowning:

LOVE the deadlift PR! And your bench is just sick! I can’t wait to see 140 for 5 reps in here! ;D

I’m immersed in Dragon Age - awesome game. I have to confess to having a crush on Loghain. Why do I always like the bad boys?
Nice deadlifting!

Nice deadlifting!
I’m crushing on Morrigan “witch of the wild”. My character is a female warrior class. My husband chose the clanless dwarfs. He says Morrigan is so much nicer and flirtier with me. Apparently the interaction was total bitch with him. He probably wasn’t polite enough to her or something.
Thanks for encouragement on the deads. I’m still high on those.

unnassisted, yes. Great form, not. I jump from a step for the much needed boost, pull myself up somewhat, drop half-way down and drag myself up again. It’s a tragedy of a pullup but pretty much all I can do for now. I still haven’t got the bands. Not sure if they would help or hinder at this point.

Thanks for the deadlift cudos Kimba - I though for sure I would have a screaming lower back for days but it wasn’t the case. Tells me I had pretty good posture but the lift itself was too slow. I need more explosive power. Had a bit of a sore upper back but that usually occurs with heavy rack pulls. Again nothing to keep my out of the gym.

Thanks Molly - I promised Kimba I would post a vid wearing a pink t-shirt for a super-girly contrast. I haven’t forgotten. I’m guessing a good month from now. I have the outfit picked and everything- no reason I should fail now (because all super heros have fab outfits of course).

clams- hadn’t though of that - was it good? did it turn out like you expected? I usually do curry dishes with shrimp, scallops or chicken myself. I buy the shrimp and scallops frozen because it’s easier to throw it in the freezer and take it out when I need it. Convenience at it’s best. I find canned fish in general a little too salty and “off” although I do eat salmon, tuna and sardines in cans.

as for the diet I am not leaning but as it was a non-workout day I kept it a little lower. However before bed-time I skipped the last planned snack and had a bowl of “ancient grains” cereal with a handfull of raisins and skimmed milk which probably took my cals around 1800 instead. I usually have a social meal with beer or wine on fridays but as we stayed home and played PC games I treated myself to those xtra carbs. Friday and saturday suppers are my treat times and I was looking forward to bend the diet a little.

fyi: reason I’m paying attention to my diet is because I love to lift heavy and hard but last time I did this I gained 20lbs - a lot of it fat. I was eating like a bus load a day of everything and anything. It took me months and months to lose the extra weight. Now I am trying again using a clean food approach. Idea is I can eat 1800-2000 cals of clean food a day - not just a bunch of bars and restaurant food. I have been doing this since January and already I have noticed that I did lean out and lose some fat. Very happy that for now I am eating very well (to my satisfaction-no night time hunger pangs), my lifts are increasing and I can see a little upper ab definition. A win-win in my book.

Looks like the mental grease is still working… Drum roll please…
