come hit it in tonys place some time dude
though ur prob bigger than me haha
I’m Canadian. I just worked in Wisconsin while I was doing my Master’s degree. I took a job in Cork because I couldn’t convince a school in the U.S. to get me a work visa to be a college strength coach. So, here I am.
And I might not be bigger than you…I look pretty average.

I’m not going to be able to make it. My birthday (feckin 37) is on the 28th and can’t commit to both weekends. Please post the info so I can pass the word around my gym.

I’ll be there to support the guys out of Hercules Gym and Total Fitness Castleknock!! It was an awesome show last year.
And Intersweat, nah I’m not going up. I’ve been working on some rehab issues since my last comp in July so I haven’t really got any solid training time under my belt for it. I’ll probably hold off on competing again until next year and hopefully hit something big.

What size of lifts will you be working towards next year.
BTW, I train in the same gym as John Gowdy (he was asking did I know you).

John’s a big strong lad. What’s he weighing these days?
Not really too sure what’ll happen next year but I’m certainly looking for a 300kg squat and 800kg total.

Not really too sure what’ll happen next year, deffo a 200kg bench this year tho, I’ll be looking for a 300kg squat and 800kg total next year.

He’s 16 st 4lbs. His bench has been coming on but he hurt his back and hasn’t been able to squat recently I think.
Ben Loughrey has also come on a good bit. The bastard has only been training for just over a year ;o)
Those are some weights you’re moving… no wonder John knows you ;o)

Not tempted to do a bit of competing yourself?
Think he’s gonna go for the natural bodybuilding. He’s in real good nick at the minute (don’t tell him I said that ;o) ). Just needs to bring his legs up a bit to match the huge shoulders and back.
My best numbers were about 3 or 4 years ago when I got up to about 17 st. I’m coaching my sons footie team now and looking to get into PT so I can’t see me beating my PRs anytime soon. I do find the whole thing fascinating though. Will definitely be going to cheer the Centaur boys next Sat.
Do you know Paul McIlroy (the link in my profile shows him training)?? He trained John and Ben but has just gone to train for a month with Matt Hughes - the UFC guy. Pretty mad I thought. He knows his shit too.

Being a boxer, I doubt I’ll be seeing you at the next big meet. Might get into the whole powerlifting scene in two years time. I’m still young.
Intersweat, congratulations on getting the whole Irish thing up and running after just joining. You seem like a man on a mission ;).
After just joining!! Nah I’ve been a member here since the VERY start and I was on the site from 98 when it was called Testosterone.
Just always wanted to know what was happening around Ireland and nobody else had done it.
A boxer you say. Any fights planned??
My dad was a boxer. In his first fight his corner man said to “keep it up you’re doing brilliant. He hasn’t laid a glove on you!” to which he replied “well keep an eye on the referee cause somebody is kicking my fuck in out there!!”

I hate sore bums the next day…
Instead of a shirt you should bring a life-size sex doll dressed as Lara Croft. Amounts to the same thing. I remember scrolling through the retarded pics thread and thinking… “these pics can only belong to an Irishman”.

College year starts up in a few weeks. I’ll find what’s happenin’ then.
Love the story! Did he ever tell you about his training methods? My dad used to fight with his college back in the day. His gym had a bag, a pair of gloves and a ring. Everyone fought on their first day. The coach would say “I’m sure all of ye have been in a fight before… so this shouldn’t come as a surprise”!
