IPF Ban on Metal Gear

Awesome, that post is from the dealer who is getting me my new suit.
Great news!

This is just total bullshit. It sounds like they raised the licensing fee from 3,000, to 6,500 to 13,000 in the past 3 years. IPF should make money but that is fucking stupid. You’ve got to sell 65 suits at an average of $200 per just to pay the fee.

Monopoly

So wait…I thought the IPF was defending the “integrity of the sport”?

That was a good laugh. Thanks SH

Metal gear will not be banned from the IPF, they’ve come to an agreement on fees.

Fixed that for you.

Remember children, extortion may be illegal but damnit it gets shit done

I don’t understand why you all compete in the IPF when they pull bullshit moves like this.

It’s the only fed we have here. I’d rather compete IPF than not compete at all. I just want meets to lift in.

How long is the drive for you to get to Montreal? CPF (formerly CPO) meets are held atleast twice a year in Montreal at Montreal Barbell. Cheryl and Ross hold amazing meets.

That’s about the only reason I could understand

I must admit I got a bit of a chuckle out of this thread. OH NO, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITHOUT OUR GEARZ? Serves you gear whores right. Leh-who-zeh-ers. HAHAHAAHA! …please don’t kick my ass…

Kinda makes me wonder weather the feds would even allow any gear unless they had a way to make extra cash off it. It is good to know that cash and not integrity or common sense dictate the legality of equipment.

Thought this was interesting. From Ano Turtiainen on the Metal forums:

We have made the deal with IPF, so this is okay now.

This is the system:

  • manufacturers have to pay annual fees for the IPF in every year, last year the total fee was 4500 euro (1500 for the bench shirts, 1500 for the suits and 1500 for the wraps), this year IPF has doubled the fees, total is 9000 euro (3000 for the shirts, 3000 for the suits and 3000 for the wraps), there is no limit how many items are sold.
  • for the racks the manufacturers have to make a deal for 4 years, the value has been 8000 euro, but also this fee will be much higher when making new deals.
  • in the year 2010 METAL has to pay 9000 euro for the equipment, 2000 euro for the racks, total is 11000 euro / little bit over 15000$.

Because the fees are now so high, we want to begin discussion, how long the lifters can use the gear, if the manufacturer does not pay the fees. Now it is only allowed during the year payment is done, and it is too short time, we want to SECURE the rights of the lifters. There can be many different reasons, why companies do not pay the fees any more, for example: the company is sold, the company does not exist anymore, the company changes the manufacturing line, the owners of the company die, some disaster happens to company, for example fire, etc…

If something happens to the companies, lifters/customers have to be able to use the gear which they have bought, for longer time, our opinion is that the time is 3 years, Now in IPF there is no time, the fees is only for the year when they have bought it. For example if the manufacturers do not pay the fees next year, the lifter cannot use the equipment any more next year, even that they have bought it in December, THIS IS NOT RIGHT!

I think there is a fear, if the gears are allowed three years, the manufacturers will leave one year without paying, but this must be done by any other solution than the manufacturers have to pay every year.

We have got a lot of messages from the lifters all over the world and we have got their support. We want that the lifters will discuss about this and let us know their opinion, because this issue concerns them a lot.

oh yeah we are losers alright. There is no raw lifting fed in Canada, so if we want to actually be competitive, we need our gearz.
I want to lift and be competitive with the other women in my weight class, who are all geared lifters. Or I could just pay the entry fee, hotel and food and travel fees and come in last at every meet. There is not even an asterisk besides your name designating you as a raw lifter.

That being said, I don’t agree with the way the IPF handled this. I’ll make the switch 100% to oly lifting after the Nationals for the summer, and if I continue to do well and stay healthy, I’m gonna stick with that.

They do hold great meets, lots of fun and great lifting! I’ll be there in May as a spectator for sure.

The first part of my post was in jest.

So…does that mean if I have an APT belt that I have used maybe 15 times…great. Makes my night.

I’m in Nova Scotia right now, I could make the trip once or twice a year. Any more info on this, out of curiosity?
