I am about to buy a belt and I can’t decide between the 13mm buckle and the PR lever. I have read previous posts asking similar questions and it seems that both have their advantages and disadvantages.
From reading other posts I decided I would probably prefer a lever belt but my problem is with the sizing. My waist is about 33.5 inches. The two closest sizes are 30-33 inches and 34-38 inches. If I get the larger one I am worried about the excess overlap that people have mentioned but the smaller one won’t allow for if I want to ‘bulk up’ a bit and my waist size increases.
With the 13mm buckle belt, however, the closest size is 33-35 inches which is perfect and would allow for my waist size to fluctuate either way.
30-33 for a 13mm belt is going to be tight, especially once you factor in the added thickness of a suit and tshirt. Plus if the belt is too tight its harder to push out against it. the inzer belts give you an extra 2 inches on the low side. so a 34-38 belt should actually let you adjust it to as low as 32.
Definitely go with bigger belt. I went with the smaller one. It works great, but I have it on the last notch. I wish I had a little wiggle room cause it not going fit if start using a suit or if I gain some weight.
Get a buckle belt, I have a lever too (i hate it), i’d try both out first, as you’ll be shelling out a good amount of money for one. Find somsone who will let you try their lever and or buckle, decide then. Or buy both, return the one you don’t like.
Thanks for the replies. I just confirmed that the PR lever belt is not legal in competition. So it looks like its between the 13mm buckle and the 13mm lever.
I love my lever belt, have been using it for 10 years and it is still great. The buckle is such a pain to get on really tight especially if you are using knee wraps and such. I am not a fan of the PR lever but the regular lever is great. Good luck with it,
Tim

What? What federation is that belt illegal in?
usapl/IPF[/quote]
No it is not. One, the rules don’t say that. Two, I just got back from a usapl meet and about 70% of lifters including myself had that belt. I am even wearing it in all the meet pic and videos in my profile.

Now I don’t know what to think. Pemdas, can I just confirm that you are talking about the PR (adjustable ratchet style) lever belt from Inzer.
After the comment Hanley made above I checked with the guy from Powerlifting Australia who is organising the next meet and he said the ratchet style one is not legal. Then again, this guy may not know what he’s talking about.
The Powerlifting Australia website has a list of IPF approved equipment and it doesn’t mention belts on it.

pemdas, the PR belt is illegal. has been since it was introduced. the belt you’re wearing in your videos and photos is a lever belt. two separate belts. one is a true level the other has a ratchet
As far as size goes, always go bigger. If it’s a little big, you can always wear an extra shirt. If it’s wayyyy toooo big, just send it back, inzer is really good about returns.
Personally, I’ve never tried a lever belt. I’ve always used an Inzer Forever Belt with Buckle, the 13 MM two prong style. I’ve never had any problems with it. I’ve used two in the 7-8 years I’ve been lifting, and that’s just because I made a jump in a weight class…
I personally prefer the buckle belt. The lever belt is nice if you never gain or lose weight, otherwise you have to adjust it. Plus, you can’t play with the tightness/looseness of the belt, it is always the same.
Another vote for the lever belt…so easy to get on and off and you can adjust the sizing with a quarter (don’t need to carry a screwdriver in your bag) and it only takes a minute or 2 to adjust.
