Cutting a Lever Belt Down to Size

Got a comp coming up, the division I’m competing in requires that the underloop of the two ends of the belt does not exceed 10cm. I have a lever belt that’s quite long and the underloop on it is roughly 15cm.

Has anyone any experience with cutting down their belts they could pass on to me?

I have never had the length of my belts reduced, but I have had some work done to my belts by the ‘shoemaker’ in my area. I would suggets you start with someone like that.

Forgive my ignorance, but is it more complicated then just hacking at it with a hatchet or something? I would just do that lol. Grab a saw or a knife or an axe or a mattock or something and just go to town.

Really? Ruin a belt for a meet? Just get another belt.

WOW, I didn’t realize there was rules against this. I have been using an INZER 13MM singe prong belt for years and love it- GET ONE. I bought an EFS lever belt because they were on sale for $40 if I remember correctly. Belt is made well but a pain in the ass! I didn’t realize the extra belt material went on the INSIDE. My left side feels ok but the right side feels like shit. I’ve thought about cutting mine off to but then I lose the adjustability of it and the extra would STILL be poking my ribs, just not as much and my belt would prolly be ruined.

I’d just buy a single prong belt. Belts are like girlfriends man, Can’t have too many.

I must be an idiot. What the hell is the underloop?

Could some one explain the difference/purpose of a belt with a lever vs. a belt with a buckle?

With the lever belt one simply sticks the 4 hooks of the lever ( left side of pic above) into the 4 holes of the belt then flips the lever over. The belt is ready to go. When done with the lift one can simply pull the lever and its loosened. Some people find the buckle of a regular belt to uncomfortable during some lifts. This lever is out of the way. To adjust the belt, one has to unscrew the lever from the belt and move to another hole, then re tighten screws. A penny does the job if you don’t want to keep a flat blade screwdriver in your gym bag. Owning both kinds of belts, I prefer the good old single prong buckle belt. It feels better around my waist, easier to adjust. The few people I know who own both types of belts always seem to go back to the buckle belt for the above reasons. But in the end, to each is own.

Thanks this is really helpful. I have been thinking about getting a belt and was trying to decide between the two styles. I think I will just go with the regular buckle.

I received a lever belt as a gift 4 years ago…hated it from the first time I tried it. Fast forward to last year I decided to drop 20 pounds. Tried the lever belt again and loved it. Specifically, I like it for squatting. The advantage with a lever belt is you get the same snug fit every time vs cinching to a belt loop.

I’m going to try out a spud strap belt for dead lifting soon
