Hi All-
Quick question I’ve been thinking more and more about lately.
My deadlift poundages have been steadily increasing. Most recently I’ve been doing around 3 reps of 385. Certainly not a lot to most of you guys, but it’s beginning to feel like ‘real weight’ to me.
As the weight has gone up, I’ve gotten more concerned about how I’m performing the negative portion of the lift. Typically, I lower the bar fairly slowly and under control. At around 400 lbs, this is getting pretty tough, so the descent is faster and less controlled.
I’m worried that I’m beginning to risk injury by trying to decelerate a loaded bar.
My gym doesn’t have bumper plates, and I’m not really ready to simply drop 400 pounds from the top position.
Any recommendations guys? What can I do to make sure I’m lowering the weight safely?
Thanks much,
