Powerlifting watch had a letter from Donnie Thompson where he claims that he has a side view video of Hoff’s squat that shows him hitting depth. Has anyone been able to find that video posted anywhere?
I could be wrong but there always seems to be a “phantom” side video that proves depth
If you don’t like how a fed judges then don’t lift in their meets.
If you don’t like gear, lift raw.
If there’s an organization or brand who’s values run counter to yours, act like they don’t exist (enough people do this and they go away), find one that does match your values and help build that brand by engaging with it and spreading the word to others.
Pretty simple.
Certainly that too, but people can voice their opinions about the direction for sure. Especially since this is now the official largest total ever regardless of where you lift.
If you don’t agree with calling out BS when you see it, you should have just gone into a thread and posted the way you like posting, avoiding this thread. If enough people did that, it would just go away. lol
But yeah, I’ve done a couple SPF meets in the past (though I never saw anything close to this in a meet) and probably won’t be doing any in the future.

Ha! thats what I figured. I wouldn’t necessarily trust Donnie Thompson on what he thinks hitting depth is anyway. I would just like to see this other video if it does actually exist.

^^ Pretty much that. I’m waaaaaay weaker than that guy but my lifting partner would’ve just shook his head at me if I tried to call that a PR.

I think you guys are misunderstanding the difference between training and a competition.
There is no difference, you perform the way you practice.
As for the later statement of “If you don’t like it”, I guess you’re right. A homerun is a homerun regardless if it on the local little league field or Yankee Stadium, right?

I think that every powerlifter would care if a federation allowed lifters to pull off of 4" blocks and claim a world record. I could be wrong, but the whole “not my fed I don’t care” mentality has got to have a limit. I can understand the perspective that you are not competing against them, but if you were an elite lifter that was in contention to be called the worlds best squatter, and this shit happens, it has to piss you off. If Usain bolt’s 100 and 200 records were broken by a guy who ran 95 and 190 meters and everyone knew about it but somehow it is still a “record” how many people would be upset? Yeah I am not an elite lifter (far from it) but I give a shit about the sport.
The sad part in my opinion, is that this shit has been going on for so long and is so out of hand that people are beyond the point of caring anymore. If any judge saw this squat (with the exception of Louie Simmons) 15 years ago they would have laughed. The transition to shitty standards did not happen over night. Every year judging gets worse and lifters take advantage of it. I have never understood how these guys can hold their heads high and claim world records when deep in their hearts they know they scammed the hell out of what used to be an awesome sport.

Honestly, no. I genuinely do not care about world records in powerlifting. If someone else wants to compete in that fed and chase that record, more power to them. Some people masturbate with a noose around their neck. Whatever floats your boat.
I think this is still a great sport. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences at the meets I’ve been to. The only place I’ve ever seen drama with powerlifting is on the internet.

Would you care if you were in contention for some world records?
Thats what’s happening already, SPF has been bossing and pushing around it’s athletes, and the other feds. Right now your watching the best lifters in the world, going else where, and supporting other feds. I mean SPF tries to institute rules so if they’re athletes lift somewhere else they get suspended, and fined.
Even if it’s say, a geared lifter, trying a raw meet that the SPF doesn’t offer. Top lifter’s are rebelling against this. The other thing I’ve read but don’t fully understand was what happened with the world PLing Championships a few years ago. The story I heard was the SPF was stepping all over European Feds, they’re rules were the only ones that mattered.
The whole thing fell apart with the SPF making a statement it didn’t matter because the strongest lifters competed in the states anyway. I’m open to be corrected on the worlds part, but if it’s true at all, wow. When I was done with athletics,(years ago) and made the choice of PLing over BBing. Mainly because PLing was a competitive sport, with a clear winner. Whereas BBing was an art form, left up to subjective judging, LOL. I have never competed in a SPF event,(not to hate) and was simply using them as the biggest fed to make a point.
That the athletes, and fans will ultimately use they’re wallets, and attendance to voice they’re opinions

No idea. Right now I’m more focused on becoming strong enough to be in contention than worrying about what will upset me when I get there.
Take a look at this page, tell me if you see what I see. I see The squat and bench records as being dominated by Feds that Louie’s crew compete in, I see deadlifts that have stood for 30 + years. I wonder why. Take a look at the other weight classes too. Interesting.

Don’t worry, be happy, haha.
I read a lot of Hobbes and Machiavelli. It kinda puts things in perspective.
I rethought what I previously said regarding this topic. My post was a knee-jerk reaction. I think we should see the previous record video. If it’s the same depth, then we are comparing apples to apples.

I agree with your last sentence one hundred percent.
