I'm Toxic.

I?m toxic.

Apparently I?ve been toxic for quite some time now. Thanks to Lonnie?s article on iron, I?ve been grinding my teeth since last Friday.

I?m a 29 yrld male. My physical activities are divided into two things: Lifting and mountain biking. No, no, no, not the neon spandex wearing roadies you?re thinking of. My mountain biking attire consist of black baggies, a black tank, black socks and shoes and helmet of course black elbow and knee pads and black Oakley?s to top it off.

No endurance here. My rides stay within 45-60min. 45 minute time trials of 2400 accumulative ft within 3.5 miles. Log drops, steep rock chute drops ins, rock gardens the size of basketballs and 50mph downhills. I?m a sprinter, always have been, always will be.

Of course the lifting aspect keeps me strong, helps me look good nekkid, and contributes to the ability of allowing me to out sprint all my fellow team mates and leave em behind in the slaloms.

I rarely eat beef. Chicken breasts, mrp?s, protein powder, oatmeal, veggies, olive and fish oil are the staple of my diet.

My vitamin supplementation need some serious refining.

I?ve been taking my vitamins twice a day for the last 5 years, in the morning with breakfast and then again at night with dinner.

1 Kirkland multi vitamin 2x a day = 18mg iron each.
1 Kirkland B-50 formula 2x a day = 18mg iron each.
1 400 I.U vitamin E 2x day
4 grams vitamin C spread through out the day.
250 grams magnesium 2x a day. (Cause you sweat like beeeaaach while riding)

Can you smell the iron? 72mgs of iron from supplementation alone for the last 5 years. Granted I don?t know how much is actually absorbed since they are hard coated pills.

I?ll buy the Centrum Silver instead and give blood right away. Being that I bike 4x and lift 4x a week, I?d like to know what vitamin/mineral guidelines I should be following.

Is there a source for T-Men on vitamin/mineral guidelines that outline what we should be in the neighborhood of taking on a day to day basis?

I could be Black Sabbath?s mascot for Iron Man.

All feedback welcome.

Don’t forget that donating blood is a great way to kick-start the process. From Lonnie’s article:

“A 500 cc donation can draw-off 250 mg of iron.”

“…regular donation of one unit of blood per year can halve the iron stores of men, might reduce heart disease risk and may even bring down those ALT and AST levels.”

I’ve seen a lot of discussion about the article, but I think I’m the only one who went and gave blood. Anyone else make a totally selfish donation to improve his health?

For those worried about how giving blood will affect training, you’re told not to do any heavy exercise for 24 hours. So what I did was train Saturday morning, get drained Saturday afternoon, then I trained again (GPP only) on Sunday evening. No problems at all.

Or is everyone just too chicken to give the gift of life?

[smiley face and all that]

[puts a magnet against Paul’s arm]

My god. It stuck.

I would always recommend natural vitamins, but people around here don’t seem to understand that concept…

I probably need to read the article again, but I was curious as to what a healthy males iron profile is suppose to be?

Give blood? You mean with the needle and everything?! I don’t know if I can handle that or not Chris. I’ll think about it after my Fat to Fire training session, lol

Just get a new vitamin stack that is iron free… Sounds to me other then that you are good to go.
If you want to see how toxic you really are do the Mater Cleanse for two weeks. You will freak when you see all that stuff come out of your body!

RF, Do you lift and ride on the same day? I’ve tried a few times and feel so uncordinated i’ve miss-judged gaps and felt like a drunken sailor on the skinnys - not to mention the ride up. May be this is cause of your iron???
