Ian King Workouts

Ok here is the deal. I am a professional athlete and I have about 6 months before my season starts up again. I have done Ian King’s 12 week workouts in the past and have loved them. My question is, would it be best to start the 12 week program in the beginning of my six months or the end? Thanks in advance.

I would do them at the beginning as Ian’s programs focus on structural balance between the muscle groups. If you find your weak areas earlier, you will have time to correct them, whereas if you wait till the end, you may find a weak link and not have the time to properly deal with before season starts.

Not only are Jason’s reasons correct, but you should be spending the few months preceding your season working on much more sport-specific activities. Also, be sure to check out Coach Davies’ sport-specific programs.

In my opinion, you should do a strength phase, a hypertrophy phase, a speed-strength phase, and a sport specific phase, in that order. I think Ian King’s workouts definately fit into the hypertrophy phase.
