I Want to Get Big

I do believe Mentzer was right at the line to consider himself a super-heavyweight.

I don’t think some of you understand how big some of those guys were back then. Even Frank Zane was carrying more muscle than most of the pictures I’ve seen on this site.

Mentzer was a big boy. I think you need to look up some of the guys in NPC to get a better understanding of what they look like.

Jo Jo Ntiforo (above) is a super heavy.

couldnt agree more. zane, at around 195 contest weight, had almost no bodyfat. a far cry from most 200 pound people sitting around 15% bf.

and all the old time guys would probably be at least 10-15% heavier now. that would put zane at at least a ripped 220, arnold around 260 (or more, as far as total mass, arnold had the frame to be with the likes of dillet or schlierkamp, i think), mentzer around 250.

imagine zanes conditoning and muscle seperation, with another 20-30 pounds of muscle, especially in the legs (dexter jackson comes to mind, actually)

I think most people don’t comprehend how big bodybuilders are in general. If you train at your gym and your one of the biggest guys there at 200-215 lbs, you have no frame of reference for what freaky big truly is.

A bodybuilder at my gym competed last month at NPC in the heavyweight class, and he is the thickest person I have EVER seen in real life. He is freaky big, amazingly cut and didn’t even place in top 15. I have seen Trey Brewer stop in on a number of occasions (his girlfriend does Gaspari promos and he tags along) and takes up more space than two people duct taped together. Truly unbelievable.

These two guys gave me a whole different perspective and appreciation of bodybuilders. Bodybuilders appear to be big in photos and on paper, but when you see them in real life, especially when training, it really is just a whole different level of huge.

Its just something that can’t be comprehended until you see it in person. Sort of like how much faster a MLB pitcher appears to throw when you’re watching the game from the 1B lane versus on TV. Heavyweight and super heavyweight bodybuilders command an aura of awe in real life.

I just hit 200lbs this past week.

Re-set aim for 210lbs.

It’s been my aim to be as big and strong as I can for quite some time.

For so long that it’s just become “how it is” and not anything new. I assume that’s why not too many people are speaking up.

Aiming to be bigger, faster, stronger is how we do here.[/quote]

200 is a fun weight to hit. It felt like reaching a 200lb bench press in high school for me.

But it’s only up from there… kind of. I’ve been around 215 for awhile, give or take a few lbs from week to week.

Add me to the want to be big group. I’m currently 5’10" 220 lbs., soft around 16% BF or so if I had to guess. The goal is to reach at least 230 lbs. at single digit BF%. I want to stand out in the crowd (though I honestly believe I already do, just not to the degree that I want to). Who knows if my goal will change when I reach it, so far it has increased every time I’ve met set goals. If I get to 230, single digit BF and I am not happy with my size I will continue the gaining. I wont stop until I am satisfied.

There does seem to be an aversion to be big(and not just on this site) There’s nothing wrong with it. Any man under 200 lbs. is really a woman anyway.

I hear that phrase being tossed around sometimes. I want to be 200 so I can say it so bad. Just another 6 months…

EDIT - Ive weighed 200 before but it don’t count if it’s fat weight. You gotta be ~10 to get in.

I can’t understand lifting weights without wanting to get as big and strong as possible unless of course you compete in a sport with weight classes. So yep, I want to be big.

This thread is great… I recently hit the 240 mark at 6’1… body fat at 20%, but thats what the winter is for. Never thought I would even see 200 when i was a teenager… eat, lift, sleep…

Mike and Arnold competed in the same class though and no one ever talks about Arnold as a freak. As much as i respect Arnold and his contributions, i think he’s greatly overrated as a BBer. even someone like Mariusz Pudzianowski who is 300 pounds doesnt have that “freakish” appearance. you see that hes very big and you can gauge that he has enormous strength by looking at him but you wouldnt disgust most people looking like him, but then again i guess it all comes down to the fact 90% of the time you see a BBer its in his contest shape, oils and tanners included.

my longterm goal ATM is 230 and im at 200 now (6 feet) so depending on when i start using (wink wink) it could be anywhere from 3 to 5 years? but thats just a guess.

Currently 19 years old, 6’2 259 lbs, with my 6 pack still intact, so I’m guessing my body fat to be in the low teens(11-14%). My current goal is to reach 275 lbs at a lesser or equal bodyfat by the time school starts up again. (Jan 10th I believe).

I’m like Austin, I one day want to be an IFBB pro and I will do whatever I have to get there, so far my approach is working.

Mariusz is so big, he can take a dump on the beach and no one would dare say a word.

And he can dress like this and still get hot bitches

My sister used to act freaked out when she saw pictures of arnold in his book.
Shed’s knows better now though…

I’ve got a long way to go yet, but the vision I have in my mind is definitely one of hugeness.

Currently 19 years old, 5 foot 9, 200lbs with top 4 abs visible. Semi-recent ~900lb personal powerlift total. (Can no longer bench press)

Been bodybuilding for 2 years, starting weight was 130lbs at the same height.

Long term goal is somewhere in the ballpark of 250lbs, single digit bodyfat, 50+ inch chest, 20+ inch arms and calves, 32- inch waist, 30+ inch thighs, and a 1500+ pound personal PL total.

Along the way or after/upon reaching that goal, I will seriously consider competition. I will enter a competition only once I truly believe I can WIN - I’m not interested in “getting my feet wet”, I want to go go in, do it right, and take home a trophy. From there I will see how far it will take me, but for now the only thing on my mind is building up the foundation - I will have plenty of time to think about competition when I’m older.

perhaps some, if gaining massive amounts of size is the goal, should spend less time here and more at the gym and dinner table?

The one critique of Frank Zane I have is the leg size. They don’t seem big enough.

Hence my avatar change.

I have a new goal.

Add me to the list as well.

Although I wouldn’t mind being bigger, Johnnie Jackson has a physique I really aspire to. Strong as fuck, but well-built and proportionate when it counts.
