Well, I’ve been away for a while, and started reading up what I missed, as well as some of the forum. Sometihng I read said that working on free weights improves posture. Well, I’ve only been using free weights when I trained, befor my back injury from job work, which occurred about 7 months ago (I know, I am pissed off its been going this long).
Now my question is if I went back into training (push/pull, ive had 7 months to solidify my planned diet with about 220g protein, so this is hopefully purely an injury question), should I do this, would working out improve my posture, and so fix my injury? I don’t want to jump back in(having been doing some bodyweight exercises to keep me active) and have it go, for lack of a better term, tits up…
I’ve spoken to therapists and doctors for a while, and they just said to rest it, but anything I do seems to infuriate it, to the point sometimes where I cant stand upright. Any help???
Weight training would improve your posture but without knowing what you are allowed to do, it’s hard to make recommendations. What did the doctors say about training? You certainly need general strengthening of your back. Usually resting makes back injuries worse. Make sure your doctor know that you are not happy with a “do nothing” approach.
stuward - they said to do nothing, rest it, but don’t rest it all the time, try and keep walking about a bit. But it seems everything I do, e…g picking up small objects inflames it. Im occassionally taking Ibuprofen!! which helps the pain.
I believe what it was was a torn muscle, perhaps pulled muscle, but it was a deep muscle near the kidneys
rsg - As of a specialist, no, I went to a personal trainer my parents go to, he said it was a torn (nmot totally sure it it was torn. pulled maybe, I’m going to go se a doctor, GP, soon aobut it to get their opinion again, bt a different GP as I live away at Uni at the mo) deep muscle.
One question, it hurts when I wake up, could it be my bed thats keeping it oging this long. As im away from home, and the bed I’ve got is much harder than my usual one
If your bed is soft, it could aggravate your injury. Try putting a piece of plywood under your mattress.
You use your back all the time just is moving about. It sounds like you’re not ready to progress beyond walking and daily life. At least you’re not confined to bed rest. You do need to talk to someone so you understand how to proceed safely.
Thanks for the advice, it seems that my normal life needs a bit of a change, and I will be seeing a GP and taking it from there as to what I should do. I’ll try the bed method.
