I hate Squats Club

I consider the belt as essential as the bar itself. For squats I usually strap in on around 405. Even lower for box squats. As Jack noted a heavy power belt can be a pain for deads, but I have learned to adjust.

I usually belt up for my last set or two on squats and DL.

I belt up for all working sets. Just the way I roll.

I don’t use a belt either, then again I lift a lot lighter than most commenting.

I use an Inzer Lever belt. I use it on most lifts over 225, 135 for OH press. But I hate it for deads, especially for reps, so I have started to leave it on the floor until my last set. I just doesn’t seem to fit right on deads. But I like the belt for squats, bench, and OH press. [/quote]

Jack, I find the belt, on deads, is definitely different. Too high and it is in my ribs. Too low and it cuts into my hips (got a nice bloodblister a few months back from it). At least for me, DCA is dead on, gotta shift it up a bit.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving, OG. Take care,

Jack

Wait a minute, the return of the goat finds this: I go off the airwaves for 5 days and I get back to find that Strick is doing an Atlas imitation and squatting the world for reps, SD has his openers in lock down mode, ECO is doing deads with half of NH for weight, Jwilly has discovered the record button on a video camera and displays a very stout 280BP, Joe Good is trying rack pull 30 of wife’s Thanksgiving turkeys, Strick is married to a hand model, Pete and Meat are in the corner of the gym discussing the rules for their upcoming volkswagon toss contest…could someone please direct me to the old weak guy threads? Great stuff gentlemen!! And if you read this and I didn’t mention you its because I haven’t completely caught up yet…but damn impressive work going on for sure.

And thanks to all for the TDay wishes and belt info…

Back after it tomorrow with the start of Cycle 4…need to combine MP and deads to get back on schedule…should make for an interesting morning…

Peace

Cycle 4 week 1 Combined MP/Dead day

MP 105x5, 120x5, 140x10

Sumo Deads 205x5, 220x5, 240x12

RDL 3x10x155, 1x8x155

2x16 bodyweight dips

No Mas! Uncle, I give,

Peace

OldGoat, welcome back from he…I mean the the deload! It just ain’t right that something so necessary and good for you should feel so bad.

So how did the combined day feel? MPs and deads sound like like a match not quite made in Heaven.
Nice work. Looking good.

Thanks Strick…well lets put this the way…DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!! it was rough. I had a good MP day and to get immediately refocused and energized for deads was tough. Tried to do some whip snatches with a really light weight after the deads and nothing left so I moved on to RDL’s…both the MP’s and deads were rep PR’s so I ain’t complaining.

Nice work OG… MP’s and deads early in the morning are tough

question: why does everyone look at me funny when I take my shoes off to deadlift?

Because they think their Nike Air are going to protect their feet?

Just yesterday I scraped the side of my foot against a weight someone had left lying on the floor. I was glad I had on shoes or I would have one really sore foot right now. Tennis shoes might not protect me from a direct hit, (like combat boots didn’t once when some dumb idiot dropped a ring compressor from an M1 tank on my foot), but it is all those side scrapes and nicks from which shoes save me.

You should note your PRs in your posts…so we can all bask in the glory! I love seeing folks hit new highs!

I thought about grouping deads and millies, but Jack steered me to squats and millies. That actually worked really well. In fact, if this 4 day thing doesn’t work out, I will go back to that.

Very valid point. I don’t worry too much about it lifting at home. My biggest concern is stepping on one of the kids toys. I do think I have started liking benching with shoes on, though. Runners grab the carpet better.

Cardio / Core Day for the Goat

Planks for 2min x 2, Half kneeling cable chops 3sidex10x100, spiperman push-ups 2side x 5, russian ball twists(bunches). Scap push-ups 2 x12,

About as boring as proof reading a budget for the 11th time. BP day tomorrow…yeah ha!!!

Peace

aint no sneezing about 9x230. I dont have that in me!!

Nice benchin’ OG. Same reps or no, it is always hard coming off a deload and playing with technique… 230x9 is strong.
Great work!

Thanks JWilly and Strick…its coming along, but it just never seems fast enough.

LS- I am trying to get tighter and have an arch because I think I am just way too loose, but right now the learning curve is steep and it definitely cost me a rep or two. You think old dogs don’t want to learn new tricks…old goats are worse! I am however, hoping in the long run that it pays off.

Cycle 4 -Squat Day

I’m willing to pay someone to do my squats for me.

Squat day (15 inch box)tap and go

195x5, 215x5, 235x7

Front squats

5x10x135

GM’s

4x10x115

That was it, I had about as much energy as a tree sloth in winter…have a great weekend guys.

Peace
