Mostly Skoal occasionally Kodiak and usually just on the weekend with a frosty or two, assuming the wife isn’t around…man she has an evil eye when she catches me dippin’!! And there go the invites to the Big bed.
Sorry I’m late. Nice work on the benches and squats, OG!
And, yes, benching in the power rack really lets you feel free to go after it. Definitely the thing to do.
I missed where the tobacco talk came from. But, you hit on my one big vice. I started dipping AND smoking at 18 (Copenhagen and Marlboro Lights). I stopped smoking at 30 (with a 1.5 year break in there), 3 months before my daughter (1st child) was born. I didn’t want a smoker in the house with kids. It was pretty easy, because I still dipped. A month and a half after she was born, I stopped dipping. That lasted about a year and a half. Copenhagen costs too much. So I now dip Longhorn. I have told my wife that I am stopping over the Thanksgiving weekend, though. It will not be an easy task. I LIKE dipping…and the withdrawl is hell. Fortunately it is a deload week on top of a holiday.
Looking good, OldGoat. And I have a deload Christmas week as well. In top of that, I am taking the whole week off and my folks will be HERE, for the 1st time since the kids were born. Hopefully all of that bodes well.
Enjoy the deload, OG!
Thanks LS , Math-
Deload MP (75, 85, 95) this AM…not quite as early as JWilly but still early…
dips 1x25 bodyweight
15 min…bike agressive
superset 2:30 treadmill 4mph, 6incline with hypers for 10 reps…total 5 sets…
stare at the 45’s on the weight trees calling my name…leave gym before gravitational forces suck me in…time for a motorcycle run!
Peace
Ok, now we’re getting into the good stuff, vices. I didn’t screw around, did Red Man for years. Gave it up back a ways. Still addicted to a good ceegar. Guess I’m the only one don’t know and eyes got to know. What’s an ISO audit? Good work and your bench is looking really good.
Taking a de-load shows how intelligently you train. Great work.
Hel- ISO is the International Standards Org…its a quality system deal. Our major customers including the US Navy require it…lots of paperwork!! An independent company audits your procedures and processes to make sure you are following them…You pass you get to say your ISO certified…
Thanks on the bench
ECO- I have learned the way of the deload because without it, I breakdown 6 or 7 weeks in.

Nice lifting and wood splitting. What do you dip?? When I was younger we chewed kodiak. I think I’d pass out then throw up if put a dip in. Now a fine cigar is a different story.[/quote]
Kodiak always burned too bad. Copenhagen was just right. Gave it up in my 20’s though.
DCA- you gave it up because you are smarter than me.
Had a wonderful, exciting, get you all fired up, d e l o a d this morning…NOT
3x5x135 Deads
2x10x155 snatch grip rack pulls
5x10 band resisted push-ups with 1 inch band…
3 minutes: watch trainer instruct non athletic person on db squating while standing on one of those half ball-like balance thingys…Note to self: wonder what the certification test is for her to be able to teach that?
question: why does everyone look at me funny when I take my shoes off to deadlift?
Peace

Because they think their Nike Air are going to protect their feet?
I like lifting barefoot. I like the feel of having my feet directly on the floor. Of course, I also like the feel of the bar tearing into my hands, on rack pulls and deads. So it might just be me.
In a warped sort of way (maybe warped), lifting is not an activity to me…it is an experience. I want to feel the metal, the floor, what have you. Anything hindering that (shoes, gloves, etc…) just takes away from it.
Are you sure they don’t look at you funny all the time??
ECO- good point…goats are a bit odd looking!!
A question for you and all: i don’t use a belt on any lifts. Should I? My numbers are such that I dont think it matters, but any input would be great.
LS- with ya bro, the only equipment I use is my ipod to keep the sports center posers from talking to me!
I use a belt for anything 225# and over. Of course, I do it because of the spondy. Were it not for that, I wouldn’t use it until I was getting pretty heavy. I think letting my back deal with the submaximal weights would help it get stronger. That being said, form can get away from you on max lifts or heavy sets with multiple reps. It may be a benefit in those situations.
There is no doubt that it makes me tighter and allows for slighty higher weight on the lifts.
Just my non-expert $.02
Senior Goat,
I never use a belt, but then I don’t lift that heavy either. I used to have a leather belt. I had trouble getting the damn thing off! I do have a little lower back trouble, though. Maybe I ought to get one…
I use an Inzer Lever belt. I use it on most lifts over 225, 135 for OH press. But I hate it for deads, especially for reps, so I have started to leave it on the floor until my last set. I just doesn’t seem to fit right on deads. But I like the belt for squats, bench, and OH press.
Some folks like to hike the belt up a bit for deads - get it off the hips. Seems to help in the bottom.

I belted up in college. Now I dont use a belt. When I did the 365 Hise shrugs I realized maybe I need to think about one
Deload BP day…nough said…
Wishing everyone who stops by and posts a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving!
All the Best,
Peace
Deloads are essential.
or as people here say the shit.
I just started using a belt, and like how I can push against them on squats, front squats
and OH press. I dont wear it tight.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I prefer no more pain or injuries so I always wear a belt…besides that, I’m old, ya know
