I hate Squats Club

Dang OG, 3x25 is just madness. Starting to wonder if Dan John is just messing with you.

Enjoy the time with your Dad and the napping.

Yep…3x25 is nuts. 4 minutes between sets? Ha…I could take 4 hours!

Hope you have a great visit with your dad. Should be a good time.

3x35 and only 4min rest between 2 and 3? I don’t think thats too bad at all.

I agree, a 4 min rest is awfully good, I need that much for regular squats.

What exactly is the purpose of high rep squats? Other than Dan John is a sadist.

Thats freaking insane.

You owe Dan John a gut punch for that.

Thanks DDay and Strick -the squats are insane. And the visit will be sweeeeet, thanks!

UN- Hey man, great to have you stop by… that reminds me I have to catch up with your log, sorry for being negligent. Hope all is well for you.

Cav-In Dan’s book he states that he believes high rep , deep back squats are one of the keys to growth along with lots of protein, fish oil, blah blah blah…I am not going to argue with Dan he has trained countless number of athletes and only recommends stuff he has done…For me, it is about the mental challenge of high rep squats, it’s just a challenge to myself to go attack something I despise…I hope someday they prove leg extensions are better!! (hahaha)

As we age, our comfort zone tends to shrink so high rep squats is just one way for me to push back against the walls…sounds corny I am sure, but for me it is what it is. And believe it or not, reading your log as you went through Sheiko made me think I need to push back a lot harder. So thanks for that; it got me to jump in!

Joe-And to think I paid him money for the book!!!

OK. Ive read your posts for the bast few days… I’m too much of a pussy to do Dan John… thats some damn good training, OG

That makes complete sense. I am mentally struggling with the same thing, right now. I just haven’t, yet, chosen quite as extreme a response.

Sweet mercy, what kind of a weird ass program is this?!?!?!??!

“That which does not kill us makes us HURT!!!”

God I have no idea what some of these exercises are…but they sound hard!

Goat, I think that’s the highest compliment anyone’s ever paid me. As I post this from my bed in intensive care . . .

I agree. It’s a good idea every now and again to follow a pre written programme (sheiko, smolov, dan john stuff etc) to stop us from resting on our laurels. I think when we control all the variables ourselves eg frequency, rep range, weight increases etc, we tend to do that which we enjoy and know we can cope with. It’s human nature I guess.

It’s good to give ourselves a kick up the arse every now and again.

Respect for picking one with 30 rep squats in, you maniac!!

JW- Dude you do a 20 rep squat and than superset everyday this would be a walk in the park for you!

Strick- my boundaries are 10 years closer in than yours!!!

CK- Wait, I was coming over to the darkside…isn’t this a bodybuilding program?

Matty- I just make them sound hard! well come to think of it they are hard for me…

Cav- Brother are you OK? Intensive care? What up?

Brett- Bam! you summed it up perfectly!!! I will go in cruise mode as soon as no one is looking but with a program its different.

Rest day today, when my Dad gets up we’ll take the dogs for a walk through the bogs : my hips are sore and cranky ( might be an advil morning) so I need the walk to stretch them out, than I will foam roll and do some mob stuff while he watches the news…

Thanks to everyone for dropping by

Peace

Just joking! Actually, the Sheiko didn’t trash me that much, even though you would think it would. I’m sure these squats won’t put you in the hospital. Probably should work on my sense of humor . . .

Anyway, I see what you mean about not getting complacent. If you’re making steady gains, why change things? But if progress slows down, you have to change something. In my case, I never had strength, and time is running out, I’m just damn desperate enough to try anything.

hmm. maybe when i’m older i’ll give high rep squats a go. for now anything over 3 reps is ‘high’ in my book :-p

seriously… that is some sadistic shit. still… you know if you can do it for that many reps you can totally own it for a single or a double or a triple or for 5 or even 6 reps.

Day 5 Dan John will never be a friend program

Today was supposed to be a refresh day but I had to do Day 5 because I wont be able to train tomorrow.

Incline BP

3x2,3,5x195 this was good, wasn’t explosive but but good speed and smooth…I likey

Bat Wings moved up to 35’s

5x5sec hold oh now I feel my lower traps

One Arm Press 60’s

Left arm 3x2,3,5x60 really pleased , last workout I only made 4 reps on the 2nd set so this is an improvement
right arm 3x2,3,5x60 no issues

bird dogs

8sidex 10 sec hold

Complex ( same as always) 3x5x90 up 5 lbs

now let me see, what am I missing, oh that would be my all-time favorite: High Rep Squats

1x30x95, 1x30x115, 1x15x135 Thats what the program called for so thats what I did. Holy crap my head is in fog…I am not even going to tell you what Day 6 calls for…I might just hurl thinking about it…

ALEXUS: thanks for dropping in, yeah thats the benefit for me…if I can endure high reps than low reps with more pounds should not turn me into a wuss…at least not as quickly.

Have a great weekend all, 5 down 9 to go…he sobs, fade to black.

Peace.

I’m getting woozy just reading that.

If you feel like it’s too much, just remember what Tom Platz did - 300# for 50 reps . . .

Just remember,

‘That which does not kill us makes us stronger.’

Move along. move along…nothing to see here…it was a refresh day in preparation for tomorrow Day 6

10 tmill
lots of foam stretch mob work

deads
5x125
snatch grip
5x135
sumo
5x135

MP bar only
10

straight arm press down
1x15x30lbs

Goblet squats
2x8x30

more stretch mob work…feel good, low back/hips sore and tight but felt much better towards the end…going to add another fish oil pill this week and see if that helps…looking forward to tomorrow…NOT! damn session calls for a 50 rep set…

2busy: my fear is this is going to kill me…thanks for stopping in.

Peace

add a handful of fish oil pills and embrace the pain
