Good morning, OldGoat. Do you perform your inclines just like above? Why the rest paused and then the normal sets?

i like your 2 buddies. I got one myself.

Yonkey, i just like paused reps, I feel them much more than a “normal” rep…so I do them up to the point that I can, weight wise, and switch to regular rep to get the final work in… I wish I had a better answer for you, but right now I am just wandering through my training until something grabs my attention…

SCREWING AROUND SQUAT DAY

BACK SQUAT 13 INCH BOX
185x5, 225x4, 245x4

18 inch box
275x5, 295x5, 315x4, 335x2, 355x1, walk out 405…I am now 2 inch shorter from the compression…

135x30

Was thinking about doing Dan Johns mass made simple ( sans the mass part)…I read his article here on T Nation so I bought his book and its different from the article so I am not so sure. The article had a 5/3/1 slant to it along with complexes and high rep squats…the book has the complexes and high rep squats but uses a different rep scheme and focuses on Front squats and bench. No deads or MPs…its only 6 weeks so it might be something to try…

Good training OG. I think I’m going to mix a few paused sets in my training. Hope your son is on the mend. I’m sure the recovery will be quick and he will be scoring a plenty by Spring

I’ve never done any Dan John stuff myself, but I like his ideas and the no nonsense way he writes.

Go for it, 6 weeks is nothing.

Thanks JW…I like paused reps!

Brett- Im going to start next week like you said its only 6 weeks…

Today was junk day, nothing planned other than test my one arm press for triples…worked up 60…may be 65 is in the cards but no value in pushing my shoulder.

did some high pulls, some OH DB EXT, DB Curls, straight arm pressdown, basically just wandering around for awhile… really spent from yesterdays all squat day with the 30 rep finisher…Since high rep squats are part Dan Jonh’s program I wanted to see how my body would react…ut oh…should be interesting. If you want to see an old goat crucify himself there are still good seats available. Or as T.O. said"get your popcorn ready"!

Tomorrow is cond/core day I will do it outside at home…I think the dogs enjoy watching me struggle…

Peace

I had planned on doing my cond/core work at home, but when I got up I was on auto pilot and didn’t even think about it till I pulled into the gym…

usual warm-up and stuff blah blah blah

Complex: row, clean, front squat, Mp, back squat, GM

5x5 worked up to 85 on the last set

superset hang cleans ( 105-115lbs) with bat wings ( 25dbs) 5 sec hold.

5x5 only rest was walking across the gym to the DB rack…

Drove home and did slosh pipe 4x75 zercher carries and 4x50 goat walks ( cinder block carries)

Monday will be day 1 of Dan John’s program. I have now tried every exercise( there are 5) in the program so at least I know where I am at weight wise …I am doing the Dan John thing to see if I can mentally grind the high rep squats for 6 weeks…I hate squats, I suck at squats, I am going to shoot the person who invented squats…but in mean time …its a must do…

Peace

Cool workouts Mr OG. Can’t go wrong choosing a Dan John workout. I hate squats as well. I make myself do them.

That was a brutal morning workout. Looking forward to following your Dan John program

You’re a tough goat, Goat. Hope you have fun with the Dan John routine.

Thanks guys appreciate the support…was going to start the Dan John Thingy this AM, but yesterday I got rocked with allergies, didn’t sleep or eat much and really didn’t feel like lifting with a nose that was acting like a leaky faucet. so I will start it tomorrow.

Kinda of curious to see how these goes…there are a few days were the session calls for squats 185x50…uh huh, 50 reps. you dont have to get them in one set , but that’s supposed to be the goal…how about if I get them in one week!!!

Every time I see this log title I think of “Under the Table and Dreaming” (Dave Matthews Band), specifically the “Ants Marching” (which the people that log here are most definitely not) song.

May I join the newly minted “I Hate Squats” club? Please?

Punny- your in! Thanks for dropping by.

Day 1 Dan John MMS ( sans mass)

warmup yeah, yeah, yeah

Incline BP ( substituted this for BP, no way my shoulder would hold up doing 3 sessions a week)

185x2, 185x3, 185x5 ( short rest between each) repeat Total 2 sets.

Bat wings ( 10 reps with 5 sec hold) 20lbs

One Arm DB Press

2x55, 3x55, 5x55, short rest between each alternate arms 2 sets each arm

Bird dogs 10xside

Complex row, clean, front, mp, back, gm

3x3x65lbs, 2x3x75lbx so 5 sets each 3 reps…

High rep Squats ( I hate squats and Dan John is no longer my friend)
30x95lbs… I did this with 135 the other day so this was no problem, but I am going to follow the program other than having to do inclines…

next lifting day is Friday, tomorrow is complete rest and Thursday is a refresh day, 10-20 minutes of whatever you want…I choose more sleep or beer…haven’t decided!

Notes: I was probably 10lbs high on the weight I chose for inclines but I made the reps so we move on. Now I remember what its like to work when I go to the gym…after wandering for a couple of months the work effort this AM woke me up as to how lazy I have been. You get through complexes with a sense of relief and then go “'Crap, 30 rep squats”.

1 day down 13 to go!!! weighed in at 174 this AM. Time to Bio freeze the shoulder

well i just had to join the ‘i hate squats’ club. i remember reading somewhere the author posted a rhetorical question ‘how would you move a weight (e.g., a table or something) if you couldn’t use your arms’? i just thought… well… you couldn’t. except of course the answer was supposed to be you would get your legs down under it and squat it up. the movement is entirely alien to me. which is bizzarre because it is supposed to be primal and all.

will be interested to hear how you find the program. i like dan john’s no nonsense style, too.

Goat, Alexus and punnyguy, I’m disgusted!

YOU ARE ALL BLASPHEMERS!!..BLASPHEMERS I TELL YOU!!!

I’m going to get straight on to the Mods to try and get this degeneracy removed.

Its a revolution not a cult. Great workouts OG. Glad to see you joined the over 35 club.[/quote]

That’s what they all say…

Love the title!
I don’t hate squats, but they sure hate me.

Can’t conceive of lifting that early, let alone lifting on an empty stomach! You guys sure are tough!

30 reps!!! Holy crap, 30 reps of anything seems crazy to me. You know what they say, never trust a man with two first names (Dan John)…kidding.
