great upper body workout deja!! You should feel quite justified chilling now ![]()
Holy crap your farmer walks are crazy. I have to carry one 75 with both hands.
You inspire me. I’m going to stop being a baby and try that… sometime in the far future ![]()
Great workouts, especially during the holidays. You determined sexy beast, you <3
talk of bloody snatch and heavy snatches.
you hafta name your next log something about snatch.
Wait, you snatch a 50lb dumbell? And I thought snatching a 16kg KB was the shit. I have been schooled.
(Your gym was open on Christmas?!!)
Nice workouts… good work on the bench & I love the fact that you do farmers walks. I do them with some tractor weights that are about 75lbs each - they have these nice handles to hold onto that are perfect. That is there real purpose in my life, not to weigh down my tractor but to weigh me down ![]()

What does this mean? Are you doing a set of pullups and then knee raises immediately after without getting off the bar? Hmm. That sounds tough and like a very good way to murder your grip. I might have to try that.
[/quote]
yeah… i do the pullups on the neutral grip part of the bar… then adjust out to the wide grip and start the hanging knee raises. these KILLED my grip… but mostly cuz they were after rows, snatches, and heavy farmers walks.

yeah i just started doing these heavy. i’ve always done them high rep with 20-25… but they’re awesome heavy. goal is to do one with a 65 by the end of january. (half bodyweight)

lucky!!! the dumbbells i’m using are bruising the SHIT out of my wrist. they press against my legs making it hard as hell to walk too. having real farmers walks handles would be the shit!
how far do you usually walk the 75’s???
got to knock out some chores and start some laundry before i roll to the gym.
last night had a couple beers and pizza with some friends for monday night football.
feeling 10000 x’s more positive now that i’m not pms’ing. it rocks.
I usually do 60 meters at a time & try to get about 3 rounds, just depends on how my grip is that day…
very cool. do you do any pinch work or other grip stuff?
dude thanks for posting that kstar link… i had spent some time reading his blog a month ago but didn’t bookmark it and looks like there is ALL KINDS of good stuff since then. some nice tuesday night reading/watching. yay! thanks!

never having a spotter on bench sucks. i need to ballz up and ask for a spot one of these days.
omg i saw a chick bench 185 for a fuckin DOUBLE!!! and she’s pretty small. she was wearing a sweatshirt and you could still see slabs of muscle on her upper body. i’m guessing she’s around a buck fifty or so. maybe a little more. but it was definitely way over bodyweight. i couldn’t resist cheering for her. it was AMAZING and seriously made my month.
so i’ve got LOTS of decisions to make this month. trying to decide what is going to be the absolute BEST decision for me the next couple months regarding europe or staying here for that time. there are a ton of pros and cons for each. when i get a minute i’ll list a few and maybe you ladies can weigh in and help me decide.
ok so i’m having a lot of mixed thoughts on what i’m going to do with the next two-three months (assuming i can line up a job at the end of that time…although it could be sooner or later).
on one hand is putting in my 30 day vacate notice this weekend and then at the end of january selling my car and heading to europe for 4-8 weeks. it would be ridiculously fun. it is also probably my last chance for any kind of extended vacation for the next few years at least. but it would make life really tight for me and definitely get in the way of my MAIN GOALS for turning 30.
on the other hand i can stay here until either a job pans out back east… or until the end of march… whichever comes first… and live fairly tight but have 3-4 days off every week and enough money to at least travel around here a little and enjoy a bunch of the things i haven’t gotten to here. and i can be here for two of the kids birthdays and just get to spend a lot more time with them before i leave. i LOVE LOVE LOVE my gym… and with the hours i work can make fitness a huge priority while still having a decent amount of fun and doing a TON of reading. feb and march are fucking BEAUTIFUL here and with all the rain we’ve gotten it will be nice and green.
so anyways i kinda made a pro list for each. i’ll come back and add to this as i think of more. i have a couple weeks to decide… and the decision might be made for me by whatever i learn about future job opportunities… but assuming i have until late march before i have to deal with moving back east what do you guys think??? i just want some opinions from the people i trust.
my GUT isn’t sure. today it’s telling me to stay. two weeks ago it was 100% sure i should leave. i don’t know if it’s fear or wisdom stepping in now.
here are some of the pros of each…
europe:
prolly only chance for extended vacation for YEARS
beautiful
improve spanish
see friends/family
awesome cultural experience
meet some new people, have more friends abroad
big change, get away from here
here:
$$$
KIDS KIDS KIDS
gym i LOVE
keep on track with fitness goals
beautiful
time to chill, travel a little
not in vacation mode (alcohol, gluttony, fat)
last chance to spend any real time in this area
not have to come back poor and then try to scrape together money to get out east
more time to deal with my stuff (the thought of having to deal with moving out of here again in three weeks makes me ill)
i don’t really want to go into the job. that’s irrelevant. but regarding europe vs. here… what would you guys do? what am i overlooking???
if i do stay here i plan to try to get out more and do more outdoorsy/fitnessy things around here. i’d LOVE to get on some kind of sports team or play a pick up game or two or something. we also have plans for weekly game night and lots of other plans with friends. i definitely don’t want to stay here for a few months and keep doing the same ol same ol.
opinions please! thanks.
First of all my love, awesome training! Looks like you’ve hit your stride. Good stuff.
Also, dude, if you can’t ask for a spot how do you expect the rest of us to do it?! Lol! you wanna bench 185 like Ms. buck fitty? hmm…
Now to the good stuff…let me just say that I’m super happy for you that you’re in a place in your life where you get to make these kind of big decisions. How exciting!! That said, I suck at making decisions, and I waffle about and fret, its terrible. So I’m in no position to help you. The only thing I will say is that from a readers point of view it sounds like you’re kinda more excited about staying local for the time being. You just seem to be talking about that more, with more detail and maybe a bit more enthusiasm…But I’ll let others opine.
At any rate, don’t say you can never do anything in life - there’s never that ‘last chance’! If you want it, you can will it ![]()
ps. come visit me in NYC!
Stay. From what you’ve written it appears that you can’t really afford to leave right now. Not just financially but you have other commitments. You can always plan a vacay later.
There’s a good case for both but personally, I’d be inclined to stay and get the most out of where you are while you can. And Europe isn’t all that nice in Feb/Mar - even Spain.
Without realizing it yourself, it sounds like you want to stay and that you already know in your heart its for the best.
Going to Europe sounds like you are running away from your ‘stuff.’ Running away from life!
And just to be nosy(curious) what is it that you do for work? outside of farming anyway.
thanks for weighing in guys. =+)
not sure about the “running away” comment… since i’ve spent the last two months getting all the ends tied up so i could move east as soon as any job news came forward. i was planning to either roadtrip across the country a bit… but then realized i could spend a few weeks in europe for the same amount of money since i had places to stay…and figured it’d be my last chance to have the freedom to do something like that for a long, long time.
we’ll see what i decide. in the meantime january is gonna be all about continuing to nail the fitness/nutrition, do a ton of reading, and spend more time on self reflection and figuring out what it takes for me to be happy and confident and actualized. =+)
sorry, didn’t mean to insult you or anything. was just going off of what you already said:
“more time to deal with my stuff (the thought of having to deal with moving out of here again in three weeks makes me ill)”
your plan for January sounds great!!
Deja: I don’t know you well enough to offer any advice. Perhaps Robert Frost can help?
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
no worries betty. and i meant physical “stuff” as in tv, bookshelves, printer, bed, etc… etc… but i’m gonna have to get rid of it regardless. but i’m definitely not looking forward to it since i just got rid of almost an entire houseful of stuff a month ago. =+)
