i don’t have any pics of myself before i started training handy. just picture a 5’6", 130 lb 14 year old and that’s your before pic. i have a big box of photos in storage and i’m sure i have some in there but who knows when i’ll rummage thru that mess. but here is a before and after of me in sept of 2005. this is the photo that got my ass back in the gym. when i saw how unbelievably horrible i looked, i knew i had to do something.
i mean you know you’re fat and out of shape but no one really tells you how badly so out of politeness i guess. then you see a photo like this one and it hits home. i was nearly 190 lbs and just over 20% bf. i trained harder and more consistently then i ever did in my life. my diet was also cleaner then had ever been before and in less that 2 years i got down to 160 and 9% bf. it is indeed now a lifestyle for me and not just a “look good in a tank top” half-assed thing like it was for many years.
haha cool man,
but i was hoping to see more recent progress. i think a few months ago you posted some pics of you at 10 or 12 percent body fat…looking nice and thick…but where do you stand right now?
Im interested because it seems most natural bodybuilders cant get as thick/wide as you are, seeing you gives me hope that i may someday acheive my goals steriod free!

oh i haven’t made much progress. i recently bought a house and re-located out of nyc so that’s been taking up A LOT of my time lately and i’m kind of stagnant. i’ve managed to just maintain but as soon as i have the opportunity to hit the gym full throttle, i’ll keep you posted. but believe me, there are many, many natural bb’s who blow me away so don’t think you can’t make progress without gear. it’s just not so.

I gave you a solid 9. Not only because you are forty plus, but you have a better physique than most bb’ers in their twenties, juiced or not.
thanks eddie and fyi…NOT :)[/quote]
You know, I really think it is one of the best compliments to be natural but look juiced.
…not only that, but to look better than most of those who have juiced.
I think that if you haven’t already achieved this then you are pretty damn close.
juice doesn’t automatically = success. i’ve known and trained with natural guys who looked better than i do and guys who were on gear and honestly looked like shit. they were strong as hell but would i want their physique? not a chance.

It’s funny you say that cause I’m bigger and stronger than most gear heads I know. Why bother?
Being asked whether you did steroids is no longer compliment. I’m 180lbs @ 12%BF and I get asked all the time. I’m by no means big either.

Depends on who is asking. Mickey mouse and minnie mouse don’t count.
1morerep after seeing that before/after pic I feel like I need to say you look great. I mean, I’ve seen you post around here a good bit, and always way respected what you’ve accomplished, but damn you look stellar for 40 years old.
I agree with the exception/standard comment…but you are a damn good exception and I hope I’ll look that good in 20 years. Again man, congrats.
many thanks douglas. i assume you mean the before/after pic at the beginning of the thread? well that is of course a span of 25 friggin years! all on and off (mostly off). but as i’ve stated many times before, the foundation i built for myself in those first 2 years of training from 14-16 has never left me. so it was always easy for me to, after not training for a few years, just start up again and look as i had when i last stopped in a matter of a few months. but this time i just got the bug.
i was tired of a lifetime of false starts and wasted potential. i just wish i had the drive and discipline i have now 20 years ago! invest the work consistently and there’s no reason you can’t look great at any age.
What is your diet like? I need one similar to that.

I found success by following John Berardi’s Precision Nutrition guide.
You have a very well developed upper body. But what about your legs. Do you train them?
Do you have to order it or can you find it free online?

Look at his profile pictures

You buy it … it’s definitely worth money 20 fold. But you can get the basics from his articles, and those will really get you where anybody in first 5-10 years wants to go.

yes i train legs…now. but i didn’t train them nearly as hard prior to my recent iron awakening so they are lagging behind the rest of me currently. one day i hope to even out.

I did the same thing. It really sucks to have your legs lagging. Best of luck on the leg gains but I doubt you’ll need it.
