I Can Beat 'Curls in the SR'

I had to share this…

I got some free passes to a fitness centre and decided to give it a go as they have a crèche and a nice swimming pool, so I took my son to the crèche while I tried the gym and took him for a swim after, nice.

The gym was rather good actually; they had a decent free weights section.

Anyway while i was in there I saw two ‘creatine kids’ about 17 140lbs each, and they were fiddling about with a couple of the small free weights and the cable fly, I could not work out what they were doing at first, then they started their exercise.

They had connected the cables to two 10lb dumbbells and they were doing chest flies (so badly they were almost very wide pull downs) using not the cable handles but the dumbbells.

They were lifting 20lbs on each side, I ambled over and asked what they were doing in a really interested and amazed way, they proceeded to tell me with much delight and an air of patronisation that they had invented ‘double resistance’ training and that they were fully benefitting from having to lift the dumbbell up, but also pull the cable down.

I was so gobsmacked at their lack of pure basic knowledge of physics that I had to walk away and come back later to explain the dumbbells and cables were counter balancing each other out, and it was rather pointless, they did not disagree with me but I got the impression it did not sink in, and they wanted to tell me to fuck off and would be back the next day doing the same thing.

So they were essentially standing there flapping their arms? Priceless.

I don’t want to call you a liar, but it is hard to believe that people could truly be this stupid and still manage to manipulate eating utensils well enough to keep from starving.

My condolences to you for having had to witness that.

Christ save us all.

Well clearly they aren’t using double resistance on the eating utensils. Jeez.

You know what it was so unbelievable I was tempted to goto the locker room to get my phone to take a picture of these guys. I also pondered about posting the story as it is so extraordinary it seems untrue, but honest I could not make that kind of shit up if I tried
